Oh, and 19 Recordings gets a royalty share too! It comes out of the Sony $$ not Adam's.
Plus Adam wrote 4 of the tracks and gets the artist and songwriting royalties for those.

Q3 - thanks for the extra info. Do you happen to know the percentage that an artist gets for the sale of an album? I seem to remember that years ago it was something like $1 on a $14 album but that was before the digital age. Or maybe it's based on each particular song on the album? Don't go doing a bunch of research for my silly question but I just just wondering if you knew off the top of your head?

Don't go doing a bunch of research for my silly question but I just just wondering if you knew off the top of your head? Depends on the contract. Adam is probably getting about $0.45 for each Playlist sold (once Sony recoups their applicable costs) plus his share of $0.364 (* .75 for Adam part) for the songwriting on the 4 tracks he co-wrote. So if Adam has 1/3 writing credit, it would be $0.364 *.333 *.75 = $0.0909 It would be surprising if that CD sells more than 50,000 copies over its lifetime. (The record for one of these Playlist CDs is 90,000 units.) So he maybe he will get $20,000 for this. But it all adds up. Bit here, bit there, next thing you know, you can buy a really nice home. ETA: Old rule of thumb was an artist would get $1 for each $14.98 (retail price).

That's not the same one I was thinking of. It was shortly after Idol, and about wanting a room for sitting around smoking...apparently we're talking about two different things. Maybe it was a Lindsey Parker interview? We are on the same page re the interview re describing his smoking room, colors in the room etc. I tried to find the interview re dimmers to see if it was inherent in that interview, but no luck. Darn! That dimmer interview was on a Fox interview, June 14-16 range, 2009, and the youtube is not longer supported...etc. etc. So the interview re smoking room might be that one or still be out there ...maybe some day it will surface. Bottom line, he now has rooms to convert.... if he chooses to partake! I prefer to think of Adam as being so "PURE" as to not partake in something that would affect his voice. (cough, cough!!! ) Now about storing his massive clothes collected over 10 plus years: A garage conversion at the back end, could support a secure storage type clothes closet for (smelly) tour costumes, costume clothing and Burning man reprisals. (kidding) (I have this visual of Adam running to and fro in his undershorts sorting out his clothes, and dealing with spiders.) Better yet... watch TV in the den upstairs, and create a little music studio office downstairs adjacent to his weight area, and create a huge, walk-in closet at the back end of the lower family room to store apparel not needed for his day to day choices. I would gladly come over and help organize.

Our accountant told us to pay cash for our humble dwelling ,It was the best decision we could have made. When you add up what you finally pay with a mortgage ,the tax benefits for 5 years I believe ,don't work out all that well IMHO. So if one has the cash ,I think paying the house off is a very secure move.
