When I first became an Adam fan my enthusiasm prompted me to try to get others to see what I saw. Introduced a few friends to a few of his recordings like Come to Me, Bend to Me and Feelin' Good. Certain ones that I figured would appeal to their more conservative taste. They were blown away by his voice. Who wouldn't be? But that's as far as it went because neither one understands how anyone can stan a pop star LOL. One even said she can't look at him when he sings because of the makeup (this was during & shortly after GNT). So I thumbed them and gave up. I'm luckier with my immediate family. My son & DIL go with me to concerts and think he is fantastic! My DD hasn't yet seen him live but she will at MSG. None of them judge me in any way for my Adam obsession. Other members of my family have completely different tastes - more WGWG-leaning Country. And are much MUCH more conservative. So I never mention Adam to them at all. They know I'm a fan and that's all they need to know. Mum's the word.

How do you stay "Happy" with so many "close" deaf, blind and narrow? Oh it's okay -- I just carry on in my low-key happy way. I read a really interesting article a number of years ago about happiness. Essentially it said, don't say to yourself that you will be happy some time in the future -- such as when I get that promotion or when I meet somebody or when everyone in my life loves Adam as much as I do or etc, etc. The article said: Be happy now.

This is his last day here and he's coming for a family dinner tonight -- maybe I can nab him for a few minutes and show him a little bit of the iHR to catch his attention! Thanks for your help everyone. Just a question inspired by this post, can you or someone else explain to me why Adam fans do this so much? I have shown videos of Adam and QAL to a handful of people over the years, mostly in my family, and I have never done it with any other artist. So I am not being critical. I am really just curious. What are we trying to accomplish? Do we want to explain why we are willing to travel long distances to see Adam perform? Do we want to justify spending so much time following an artist? Are we trying to share the experience? Are we trying to prove how right/smart we are? Is it something else? IMHO , We are kind of missionaries for Adam.. we want everyone to see the light..

Most of you know that I have tried unsuccessfully to get my two sisters to enjoy Adam. While they acknowledge he has a great voice, they just don't care for him. Both decided they wanted to see Queen in concert, tho'. The experience of girls' night out together? Wanting to see such an iconic band on their last tour? Not sure why.
I am looking forward to the concert immensely, but am a bit apprehensive about how they will react to Adam. But, I got this message a couple of days ago from my younger sister:
"I thought you'd be interested to know that I occasionally watch Glee. I like the singing, but usually the story lines and character's bizarre personality characteristics are so beyond reality that I get turned off. At least I hope high school students aren't quite that ..... adult. :-)
Anyhow, I assume you watch it now and then as well since Adam is on it.
I think he does a good job on the show."
From her, that is major praise!!! I believe that she just didn't like the make-up, OTT, highly theatrical image she associated with Adam. Seeing him as a fairly "normal" person on Glee, she could see the talent and the likeability. Within the setting of Queen (who she liked as a kid), I think she will enjoy the theatricality of the show and hence, of Adam as well. Now that she has a different image of Adam, she can appreciate the performance in context. Who knows? She may end up a fan.

I originally thought that as soon as anyone heard his glorious voice, they would become immediate fans. To my great dismay, I learned that is not necessarily true. Many other factors figure into becoming a fan. I think a lot of people have a bad or wrong impression of him. *sigh* And I can understand I guess. I hear many good voices and that's it for me. It goes no further. They just don't draw me in or there is something about them on first impression that I just don't care for and I have no further interest in them, so I guess it is the same with Adam and potential fans. You get him or you don't. I just want everyone in the universe to get him. ETA - Adam grabbed me the way Elvis grabbed me.

I have come to the conclusion that those who love Adam really see him, really feel him, really get him. We understand and love his performance because we get what he is trying to give to us. During every performance whether on video or in person, we catch what he is putting out there. I know my brain has an area that reacts to him immediately on that first note or smile or joke. I really believe we are kind of different from the rest of the population. I have never done this before. Obviously, no one else has ever come along to impress me this much. Believe me when I say, I have seen them all over the years. No one has ever affected me like Adam. I wish I understood why. It is one of my life's mysteries.

I rarely share songs from Adam with other people anymore. I've had a few negative reactions, and some indifferent. And he is so near to my heart that I can't help getting defensive when that happens. And it hurts a bit as well. Even if it is only about taste in music, which varies, I know. But how can you not love this great voice? So I just don't bring Adam up anymore actively. I do sneak in a couple of his songs when I'm controlling Spotify on friday night drinks, of course. The only ones that like Adam from the people near to me are my two sons (3 & 6 years old). They mostly like his GLEE stuff, though. Even the youngest is singing 'oh oh oh I jus wanna be a wockstaw'. I say get to them while they are still young and impressionable.
I understand how you feel nic42. I don't talk about him anymore but almost all my co-workers know I'm a fan of him. So they usually will mention if they heard something about Adam. I prefer for them to find out about him themselves rather than "shoving him" in front of their face which is going to disappoint me if the reaction is indifferent or negative.
