TALON'S TAKE
Princes Of The UniverseWritten by: Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano, synthesizer
Brian May - guitars, backing vocals
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- Issued as a single in the US but it did not chart. It also was issued in Australia (where it hit #32), Canada, and Japan.
- Inexplicably this track was never attempted live as it would make a great opener or just a great live track in general.
ALTERNATE VERSIONS
TV CREDITS- NO YT VIDEO
- NOT ESSENTIAL - it just edits the song down to an opening and closing TV theme.
EARLY TAKEEARLY TAKE - Q3 POSTED- ESSENTIAL
- Not quite done version, but features some nice alternative takes
HIGHLANDER VERSIONHIGHLANDER VERSION - Q3 POSTED- Another alternative.
PERSONAL NOTES: One of my favs on the album. A real rocking track that is GREAT to scream out to!
CHANCES:
Princes Of The Universe.....10% -- It's possible although as Q3 states unlikely that B&R are aware of the cult following this song has...Since it *IS* possible, I give it a slight uptick on chances. BUT I'd still doubt it.
SUPPLEMENTAL:
Dead On TimeWritten by: Brian May
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals
Brian May - guitars, backing vocals
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- Issued as a B-Side, but not as a single and never played live unfortunately.
- A real rocker that challenged Freddie with it's pure speed.
- The thunder at the end of the song is a real thunder clap! Brian placed a recorder outside the studio during a storm which is why there is a credit in the album - "Thunderbolt courtesy of God".
QUOTES:
- Interviewer: Was it hard to build up the solo speed in 'Dead On Time'?
"I don't think so. That was something I was quite pleased with, but really nobody else was. It's something which nobody ever mentions very much. Fat Botttomed Girls, I thought was okay, but fairly banal. I thought people would be much more interested in 'Dead On Time', but it didn't really get that much airplay. The explosions at the end are a real thunderstorm which occurred when we were in the south of France. We put a tape recorder outside." - Brian May - Off the Record - 1982
There are no live or alternative versions of this track.
PERSONAL NOTES:
- Well Brian, I appreciated it quite a bit! I thought it at least deserved a live showing although I'm sure it would have been a bitch to try to pull off live. So I can give them a pass.
CHANCES:
Dead On Time.....0% -- Never done before and probably too challenging a song to do with so little reward as it's not well known outside the major fans. That's the difference between a speed song like this and Stone Cold Crazy. SCC would be more rewarding due to the reception it would get.
