There is no comparison between Adam and Alfonso. Alfonso's voice was fine. He sang that song very well.
Then Adam takes the stage. He has that look in his eyes and he is ready to tell you a story. Before he utters one note you are drawn in to that pose as he starts. Adam has already grabbed your psyche, you are waiting for that first note. Your heart starts to beat faster and Adam sings the first line of the song. Now he has you, heart and soul. He is telling you a story and acting it out with his vocals. It is liking watching a 2-3 minute play that Adam is interpreting for you. It builds and builds in your brain. By the end of the song you are on your feet screaming hysterically because you have seen an artist paint a beautiful picture with a song that has captured your very being. Adam has always been able to take me somewhere else when he performs. I have never watched anyone that could do that to me in my entire life. I am so glad I was privileged in this lifetime to be part of his lifetime. I cannot wait to see Adam again. Just the thought brings tears to my eyes.

For comparison, here is Ricardo Afonso singing Show Must Go On. IMHO, he doesn't sound anywhere near as good as Adam or Freddie singing this! Interesting. He doesn't do badly. His tone reminds me more of Paul Rodgers, tho', than either Freddie or Adam. Two observations: First, that Adam's voice on that clip sounds richer and fuller, with more depth than his, and that is just with a fan video made with a home camera vs. TV production equipment. Second, it's pretty fabulous that Adam is one of the standards they are comparing singers to these days. |
