Rehearsals for the upcoming Queen + Adam Lambert Tour are slated to begin this week. These rehearsals will include finalizing the details of lighting and effects. The setlist is almost certainly locked down. Adam probably has his wardrobe plan set. Wouldn’t it be great if someone gave us a few clues?
Will there be GLOWSTICKS at a Queen concert?

Are we headed for a scene like this?
When Queen + Adam Lambert played Europe in 2012, it was definitely a Queen-fan dominated crowd. But there were a lot of Adam fans everywhere they went.
QAL 2012 Wroclaw, Poland
But the upcoming 2014 Tour look like they will have a larger representation of Adam fans include a large number of
Both fan groups have there own customs and rituals. The Queen rituals are well known and based on a combination of music video imitation and sporting event crowd behavior. Even the most casual Queen fans know now to clap to "Radio Ga Ga", can stomp to WWRY, and can sing along with the big Queen hits and stadium anthems. Seriously, is there a high school band in the US or Canada that doesn't at least play a clip of a Queen cheer song?
But when I saw Queen in the 1970's I do not remember a bunch of people screaming out "I love you Freddie!" {Queen was not known as the sexiest lot.} I have yet to attend an Adam concert, including iHeart Radio Music Festival, where someone didn't scream out "I love you Adam". {No one did this at the QAL 2012 Hammersmith Shows.}
But will Adam fans bring Glambert style to the QAL concerts?
I am expecting to see a bit more glitter and feathers, and more than a few glowsticks popping up at these concerts.
Why? Because when it comes to passion, Adam fans at beyond anything I have ever seen. Seriously, the word Glambert is even in the Urban Dictionary. And there isn't even a name for Queen fans, well except for "Queen fans".

Yes, there is Japanese Freddie, and very famous Freddie impersonator who attends many Queen concerts. But over the past 5 years I have seen literally dozens of people wearing a look totally inspired by Adam -- a few impersonator, many homages, aged 6 to 80, male, female and "I'm not sure".
So what's your guess? What will happen when these two slightly overlapping but very different fan groups meet for a "once in a lifetime" concert experience?

#10 “Radio Ga Ga” (1984)
Written by Roger Taylor.
Released as a single February 4, 1984 (UK), February 18, 1984 (US) and on The Works February 27, 1984 (UK), February 28, 1984 (US).
The single was a worldwide success, reaching #1 in Europe and 19 countries #2 in the UK Singles Chart, and #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
This song has the bittersweet distinction of being Queen's last Top 20 new single in North America. It is also one of the many Queen songs that has far more cultural significance than just chart placements – even in North America. It is one of the big Queen hits that will be played at every QAL 2014 concert.
"Roger had an idea of very good melodic content, and to be honest, it was called 'Radio Ca Ca' before, and initially it was to deal with the radio being too old or whatever, and I just said, 'I think you should change the lyrical content', and in fact, we went totally the other way, so, I mean, 'Radio Ga Ga' – I mean, it's good, and so, 'Radio Ca Ca'... we were actually trying to say that video is trying to take over, what's the radio going to be?"
Freddie Mercury - 1984, TV Interview
Recorded in 1983 and released in January 1984, the song is a commentary on television overtaking radio's popularity and how one would listen to radio in the past for a favorite comedy, drama, or science fiction program. More specifically the song referred to the advent of the music video and MTV, which was now competing with radio as an important medium for promoting records. Ironically, Queen had done much to popularize the music video with "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1975 and the video for "Radio Ga Ga" would become a regular staple on MTV in 1984. It was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award that year.
“That's part of what the song's about, really. The fact that they [music videos] seem to be taking over almost from the aural side, the visual side seems to be almost more important.”

Most fans know the story about the origin of this song's title. The inspiration for this song came when Roger Taylor heard his son utter the words "radio ca-ca" while listening to a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles. After hearing the phrase, Taylor began writing the song. Roger locked himself in a room with a Roland Jupiter-8 and a drum machine and wrote what became “Radio Ga Ga”.
Roger thought it would fit his solo album, but when the band heard it, John Deacon wrote a bassline and Freddie Mercury reconstructed the track, thinking it could be a big hit. Taylor then took a skiing holiday and let Mercury polish the lyrics, harmony, and arrangements of the song. Recording sessions began at Record Plant Studios and included Canadian session keyboardist Fred Mandel, who later on would work with Supertramp and Elton John. Mandel programmed the Jupiter's arpeggiated synth-bass parts. The recording features prominent use of the Roland VP330+ vocoder. The bassline was produced by a Roland Jupiter-8, using the built-in arpeggiator.
The song makes reference to two important radio events of the 20th century; Orson Welles' 1938 broadcast of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds in the lyric "through wars of worlds/invaded by Mars", and Winston Churchill's 18 June 1940 "This was their finest hour" speech from the House of Commons, in the lyric "You've yet to have your finest hour".
Personnel
"I'm an instinctive musician. I can play keyboards, guitar and drums, and I can write songs. I have a facility for writing music, but I don't want to know anything particularly technical - like what the chords are called. Even in 'Radio Ga Ga,' there are some very difficult chords. I don't know what they're called, but it doesn't matter. I'm a much better guitarist than I am a keyboard player, but now I find melodically it's much easier to write on keyboard. 'Radio Ga Ga' was a completely keyboard-written song. I defy anyone to write that on the guitar because you wouldn't find the chords, they wouldn't come naturally to any guitar player I know."
Roger Taylor - 1984
"Radio Ga Ga" is a pop rock and synthpop song which features stadium rock elements such as hand claps. Taylor sings all backing vocals on this recording.

“Radio Ga Ga” Music Video
This is one of Queen’s most famous music videos. This is actually one of the most significant music videos ever released. In large part thanks to Freddie's brilliant idea to pair this song with Metropolis.
David Mallet directed this music video for the song which features scenes from Fritz Lang's 1927 German expressionist science fiction film Metropolis and was filmed at Carlton TV Studios and Shepperton Studios, London, in November 1983. It features the band in a car flying over the title city, and later performing the song in front of the city's working class. Freddie Mercury's solo song "Love Kills" was used in Giorgio Moroder's restored version of the film, and in exchange Queen were granted the rights to use footage from it in their "Radio Ga Ga" video. However, Queen had to buy performance rights to the film from the communist East German government, which was the copyright holder at the time. At the end of the music video, the words "Thanks To Metropolis" appear.
The video also features footage from earlier Queen promotional videos (such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Are the Champions", "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Flash") in a photo album. A different version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is also shown.

“Radio Ga Ga” Live
Radio Ga Ga" is a live favorite thanks largely to the audience participation potential of the clapping sequence prompted by the rhythm of the chorus (copied from the music video). The band performed the song at every concert from 1984 to their last with Freddie in 1986. The most notable performance was at Live Aid in 1985.
Queen finished their sets before the encores on The Works Tour with "Radio Ga Ga" and Mercury would normally sing "you had your time" in a lower octave and modify the deliveries of "you had the power, you've yet to have your finest hour" while Roger Taylor sang the pre-chorus in the high octave. Live versions from the 1984/85 tour were recorded and filmed on the concert films Queen Rock in Rio 1985, and Final Live in Japan 1985.
“Radio Ga Ga” at Live Aid (1985)
"I remember thinking 'oh great, they've picked it up' and then I thought 'this is not a Queen audience'. This is a general audience who've bought tickets before they even knew we were on the bill. And they all did it. How did they know? Nobody told them to do it."

“Radio Ga Ga” The Magic Tour (1986)
The song was played for the Magic Tour including two more times at Wembley Stadium; it was recorded for the live album Live at Wembley '86, the July 12, 1986 performance.

Notable Performances after 1986
Paul Young, Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert
Of all the performances of "Radio Ga Ga" the Queen + Paul Young performace at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert again at Wembley Stadium on April 20, 1992 may be the most amazing. This is a must watch video!

Roger Taylor, Party at the Palace
At the "Party at the Palace" concert, celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002, "Radio Ga Ga" opened up Queen's set with Roger Taylor on vocals and Phil Collins on the drums.
This is a heartfelt performance, but not Roger's best vocal effort and the back-up vocalists are not so good.

Queen + Paul Rodgers “Radio Ga Ga”
This song was played on the Queen + Paul Rodgers Tour in 2005–2006 and sung by Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers. It was recorded officially at the Hallam FM Arena in Sheffield on May 5, 2005. The result, Return of the Champions, was released on CD and DVD on September 19, 2005 and October 17, 2005, respectively.
It was also played on the Rock the Cosmos Tour during late 2008, this time with only Rodgers on lead vocals. The concert album Live in Ukraine came as a result of this tour, yet the song is not available on the CD or DVD versions released June 15, 2009. This performance of "Radio Ga Ga" is only available as a digital download from iTunes.
Queen + Paul Rodgers - Radio Ga Ga (Live in Chile) November 19, 2008
Paul sang the vocals on this one and made it a sing-alone. JMHO I think this song is better as a clap-along vs. a sing-along.

Queen + Adam Lambert “Radio Ga Ga”
The song was performed at all 6 Queen + Adam Lambert concerts on their 2012 European Mini-Tour. It was not performed at the EMAs or at the iHeart Radio Music Festival (2013).
This is Adam debut performance of this song but also the performance with the large crowd. My expectation is that we will be a more authoritative, commanding version of this song in the upcoming tour.

“Radio Ga Ga” Lyrics

Radio Ga Ga
Radio I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds - invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh - you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
Radio
So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
Radio goo-goo
Radio ga-ga
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio someone still loves you
We watch the shows - we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years
Let's hope you never leave old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So stick around because we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
Radio goo-goo
Radio ga-ga
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
Radio goo-goo
Radio ga-ga
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Someone still loves you
Radio ga-ga
Radio ga-ga
Radio ga-ga
Radio
You had your time you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
