AT&T launched its second annual “Live Proud” campaign in honor of Pride Month, and you can be apart of it."Live Proud" encourages LGBT people and allies to post to submit a meme that expresses awareness, empowerment and pride.
If you submit, you'll be in good company. 2013 GLAAD honoree, Adam Lambert joined the campaign last year and does so again this year. The person with most unique photo that demonstrates how you live proud will win a V.I.P. experience with Adam Lambert. You can find out more about the contest here. ( https://apps.facebook.com/attlgbt/?source=ECae000000000000U&wtExtndSource=liveproud&GUID=1EB255D5-75D3-45D5-839C-A4F86FBE5A0B )
Additionally, AT&T is presenting a live Google Hangout with singer, songwriter and actor, Adam Lambert on Saturday, June 14 at 1:00 PM PDT. The Hangout will consist of questions – asked by you and Adam’s fans – about the AT&T Live Proud campaign, his highly-anticipated summer tour with Queen and other hot topics.
AT&T is joining a number of other corporations who are getting into the Pride spirit with an LGBT-focused marketing campaign. AT&T hopes the campaign and contest will send a message through social media that being proud is something to be celebrated.

2014 Queen + Adam Lambert Tour countdown….
6.13.14 by Q3
OMG!!! --- there are only 6 days to go!!
#6 “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”
Written by Freddie Mercury.
Release as a single on October 5, 1979 and on The Game June 30, 1980.
One of the highlights of the Queen + Adam Lambert concerts I have seen so far is when Adam gets his full Elvis on and performs “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. It is Queen’s biggest North American hit. It is one of the brightest moments within the already stellar collaboration between Queen and Adam Lambert. And I predict it will be a supernova experience live during the upcoming tour.
**
This was Queen’s first #1 hit in the US and it held the top spot for four consecutive weeks. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was also #1 in Australia (7 weeks at #1!!), Canada, Mexico and Netherlands. Surprisingly (well maybe not), Queen’s clueless US label almost did not even release this single in the US. DJ picked it up from the UK release and demanded the single.
Both "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (4 weeks at #1) and "Another One Bites The Dust” (3 weeks at #1), Queen's only #1's in the United States, were on the same album, The Game, in the same year 1980. It was Queen's peak of popularity in the US.
The best Elvis song that Elvis never recorded

David Carroll's Chattanooga Radio and TV
We have some terrific oldies radio stations in Chattanooga. A couple of them specialize in hits from the 1960s-80s era, and a few others feature classic top-40 songs as well. This morning one of them played Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” which according to legend, lead singer Freddie Mercury wrote in the bathtub. (I’ve had million dollar ideas in the shower too, but they seem to swirl down the drain). His bandmates say it took him all of ten minutes. He had to dry off quickly, grab his guitar and get the notes down before he forgot them.
It became a huge hit in England in late 1979, and a few months later some US stations got a hold of it, forcing Queen’s record company to release it here in the states. By that time, the band had become famous here for intricate harmonies, multi-layered vocal tracks and bizarre lyrics, so its management was concerned that Queen fans in America would be turned off by the song’s retro sound.
But within weeks, the song zoomed to number one on the charts (the band’s first ever), and it was one of my most requested songs on the KZ-106 morning shift. Then, and now, some people think it’s an Elvis Presley song. In 1980, some people swore to me that Queen had re-recorded one of Elvis’ old songs. Remember this was pre-Internet, you couldn’t look this stuff up. I’d say, I know a lot of Elvis songs, and I’ve never heard this one. “Oh it wasn’t a hit,” they’d say, “but Freddie Mercury must have found it on an old Elvis album.”
Truth is, Queen recorded it in the style of Elvis’ early rockabilly days, and even filmed a video that most of us never saw; MTV wouldn’t come along until a year or two later. Elvis and his fellow 1950s Sun Records artists (Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash) influenced many young British musicians of the 60s and 70s, and this was Freddie Mercury’s way of paying tribute to the masters. In the last years of Elvis’ life, most of his recordings were ballads and country-flavored songs, and the closest he came to his old rockin’ sound was “Burning Love” in 1972, five years before his death. We’ll never know how the King would have sounded performing “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” but I’ve always believed he would have nailed it, in his prime anyway. So sit back and enjoy this video. I think it’s one of the best-produced, best-performed records of the rock-and-roll era, and despite the band’s fears, it actually expanded their fan base worldwide. Ready Freddie?

Freddy said he composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on the guitar in just five to ten minutes.
'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes. I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework. I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think.

A Bit about Rockabilly
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating to the early 1950s originating in the Southeast United States. It blends American folk, country and bluegrass, with rhythm and blues, leading to what is considered "classic" rock and roll. The term "rockabilly" is a portmanteau of "rock" (from "rock 'n' roll") and "hillbilly", the latter a reference to the country music (often called "hillbilly music" in the 1940s and 1950s). Other important influences on rockabilly include western swing and boogie woogie which were prevalent in the mid-South were Rockabilly.
The rockabilly sound was popularized by Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson and others, the influence and success of the style waned in the 1960s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, rockabilly enjoyed a major revival through acts such as the Stray Cats. Rockabilly’s most significant legacy is a variety of sub-styles and influences in other rock genres such as punk rock.
Here are 10 very significant rockabilly songs.

Brian has said in interviews that he arrived at the sessions for "Crazy" late, the song was almost completed (with Freddie supplying rhythm guitar on the track). May quickly laid down his lead guitar break, but not with his usual Red Special -- he used an old Telecaster to get that clean, '50s rockabilly feel.
Interviewer: Did you use a Fender on 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'?
"Yes. I used on of Roger's really old, beat up, natural wood Telecaster. I got bludgeoned into playing it. That was Mack's idea. I said 'I don't want to play a Telecaster. It basically doesn't suit my style.' But 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' was such a period piece, it seemed to need that period sound. So I said, 'Okay, Mack, if you want to set it up, I'll play it.' He put it through a Mesa/Boggie, which is an amplifier I don't get on well with at all; it just doesn't suit me. I tried it, and it sounded okay."
Brian May - 1982, On The Record

Although Freddie would play an electrified twelve-string on stage (and later a six-string electric), in the studio he recorded it with a six-string acoustic with external mics. Freddie also played the original guitar solo on a version which has been lost.

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” Music “Video”
The music “video” for the song is actually a movie. It was filmed at Trillion Studios in September 1979 and directed by Dennis De Vallance featuring four dancers and a floor of hands. An alternate version featuring alternate angles, out-takes and backstage footage from the original video shoot was included on the Days Of Our Lives DVD and Blu-ray releases.
The music video predates MTV so very few people actually saw this video at the time.

Just a bit of a quibble with this music video
The music video uses 1950’s black leather and biker images which were mored associated with “Greasers” not Rockabilly. Freddie is a lot more James Dean than he is Elvian. (Or sorry, he looks a bit like "the Fonz" to me -- and this video was made 5 years after Happy Days premiered.)
This is James Dean from Rebel Without A Cause (1955)
Rockabilly is a music culture, much the same way punk, goth/emo, metal, etc. Rockabilly is mainly about the music and had little or nothing to do with rebellion or cars or hairstyling.
Carl Perkins a the quintessential rockabilly artists. Carl Perkins (2nd from left)

and Jay Perkins in the movie Jamboree.

Elvis Presley, 1956. Yes, he also like jackets!
In the late 1950’s and 1960’s in the United States, Greasers were usually young adults born to lower to lower-middle class families and started out as street gangs. The word Greaser derived from the oil or cream (grease) used in hair styling. Eventually the style was adopted by rebellious teens. Greasers were interested in fast hot rods, women, and rock n’ roll music, not specifically rockabilly.
Most of what we think of as “Greaser” subculture was a Hollywood creation.

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” Live
Queen played the song live between 1979 and 1986, and a live performance of the song is recorded in the albums Queen Rock Montreal and Queen at Wembley. Having written "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on guitar and played rhythm guitar on the record, for the first time ever Mercury played guitar in concerts.
Whenever the song was played live, the band added a solid rock ending that extended the under-three-minute track to over five minutes. Brian May added a long guitar solo, while Freddie Mercury continued on the rhythm guitar and John Deacon on the bass guitar. Because of this extended aspect, most fans prefer the live versions to the studio recording.[according to whom?] An example of this is on the CD/DVD Set Live At Wembley Stadium, where the song runs over six minutes.
I could post 20 great live performances of this song. I have decided to pick 5 of the most significant performances. Talon will certainly have more important and interesting performances in his post.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love
This thing called love I just can't handle it
This thing called love I must get round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love
This thing (this thing) called love (called love)
It cries (like a baby)
In a cradle all night
It swings (woooh woooh)
It jives (woooh woooh)
It shakes all over like a jelly fish
I kind of like it
Crazy little thing called love
There goes my baby
She knows how to Rock'n'Roll
She drives my crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
Then she leaves me in a cool cool sweat
I gotta be cool relax get hip!
Get on my track's
Take a back seat
Hitch hike
And take a long ride on my motor bike
Until I'm ready
Crazy little thing called love
I gotta be cool relax get hip!
Get on my track's
Take a back seat
Hitch hike
And take a long ride on my motor bike
Until I'm ready (ready Freddie)
Crazy little thing called love
This thing called love I just can't handle it
This thing called love I must get round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love...
