Not so Quietlion's Las Vegas Recap
Now that I'm home with access to a real computer keyboard, I thought I'd take the time to share some impressions with everyone. My DH was willing to go to exactly one concert with me, so of course I chose Las Vegas! He was also happy to attend the A-top luncheon organized by grandduchess (thank-you!). I ignored him a bit as I met many lively, interesting women whose posts and pictures (looking at you augenpoesie) I so enjoy.
For Saturday, we were on the floor. It was fun to be up front in this smaller venue. The set was simpler, but Adam, Brian, Roger, Spike and Neil more than compensated with lots of improvised moves around the stage. The sound was great, too. DH enjoyed it, especially the fast songs. He was "air drumming" along.
Unfortunately, I had a few experiences that mirrored Seoulmate's. (If you have not read her Vancouver recap, do it now! I'll wait.) Latecomers literally butt into my row right at Adam's entrance. I missed it completely, seeing only their inconsiderate butts.
Although I expected everybody to stand, we were packed in so tightly that I needed to bob and weave quite a bit to see. I succeeded often, but Adam was too far upstage left for me to see the end of "Fat-Bottomed Girls". The cameraman cut away right when he said, "Get on your bikes and ride!".
Coward! Luckily, our videographers capture all the good stuff.
Worse, though was "Who Wants to Live Forever". Adam was very close to me and I was looking forward to this moment. But right at the beginning of the song, someone above dropped beer on the guy in front of me. He loudly and colorfully started cursing. Security was right on it, but then this beer-head (internally as well as externally) continued a shouted conversation with his buddies, about the cocktail waitress's physical attributes, among other things. Adam was right there, singing his heart out!!!
Luckily, the mirror ball came down and they were distracted by the shiny. I got to hear and see the end of the song. Magnificent!
Sunday morning, as we were riding the elevator, we were joined by a family of four...all in Queen T-shirts. The dad was a big guy with lots of tattoos. He started a conversation with, "Did you see the show last night? That Adam Lambert really did Freddie proud!" The wife agreed and said it felt just like it did in 1974. The dad reminisced a bit and then wiped his eye! I am so glad that Brian, Roger and Adam have the guts to do this tour, in spite of the naysayers. They are touching a lot of lives.
Wow! This is getting really long! Need a coffee break? I'll wait.
Sunday night, I shared balcony seats with sk_pf. (DH was off doing a little gambling.) I loved these seats. Adam had lasers! Seeing the full effect, especially during Brian's guitar solo, was awesome. Did I say that I loved, loved, loved this show? Adam did not go for as many glory notes, but he did two things that I really like. First, he added several "bluesy" riffs. (Is bluesy even a word?) Second, he danced a lot more. To me it was playful and joyous. I noticed his new bling at the end of the show...but if you'll indulge my splashing in the shallow end, I prefer his sweaty chest...no necklace required.
At the end of the second concert, as we were being herded out of the venue towards the casino floor, I was right in front of three male queen fans. They were like an echo chamber, repeating each other's statements. I tuned in on "not like Freddie". It wasn't a #FLD (TM bridgeymah), but wistful and longing. It tempered the joy I was feeling. They went on to say, "That guy really could sing, though. Yeah, he could sing. He could really sing, though." He laid it all out there, he went all out, all out. Freddie would not have done a couple of songs like he did, no he wouldn't, no, but some were close. Yeah, some were close, not bad at all. Just before they moved away, I heard, "He really nailed Killer Queen, though. Freddie would have laughed."
My joy returned, full force.
