At a purely literal level - no shit. Unless Freddie had an identical twin we don't know about, yes among 7 odd billion people on the planet there was only one. A layer further down is seeming requisite acknowledgement and cultural cannonization of dead popular entities. Elevated far more in death than ever in life. All past sins forgiven and future foibles avoided. And yes agree that the structure and presentation of the show plays to this and perpetuates it (I am probably one of the only ones who would love to see them ditch the Freddie video bits, bring on a men's choir and take on the whole of Bo Rhap live - but then I've always found live people performing with video of dead people a bit creepy). And yes, Adam is a grown up and certainly knew what he was getting into.

But then I get to what I read in the subtext of those comments - my own filter my own sensitivities which I happily own. The dirty underbelly. We call it tall poppy syndrome here in Oz (cutting them down is something we have down to a fine art). Don't dare get above your station because you're not worthy and we won't let you forget it at any point. The compliments and accolades all couched with the coda to ensure that place is never mistaken (as if "replacing" was the intent). How dare a mere not quite winner of a reality singing show (hence to constant refrain of AI runner up) think they could ever measure up. Oh yes you might be good and hell even better than we thought you might be, but hey you're no Freddie and don't you dare forget it.

So for reviews scroll will be my friend and as Cassie said - what do I care what others think and say as long as I know he's amazing...

Except I do.
