After reading Cory Garcia's review last night ,I was shocked ,from his tweets, he sounded like he loved the show..I couldn't sleep well, I kept thinking that there is a message here and just maybe there is some truth ito this critique. It's easy to get really upset because I think the show is amazing and all the talent ,much of it Adam's is beyond anything else out there... but is there a grain of truth ? Adam has spoken of not wanting to do Broadway because he wanted the freedom to create and not be tied down to another's script and music. He wanted to create his own story.
What kept coming to mind is Pirandellos "Six characters in Search of an Author" Adam has it all ,but he needs his own words and music to go with his incredible voice.I have loved many of his songs, but they are not chart breakers in the industry. This is what is needed to become that superstar that he is so worthy of becoming. I have felt this for a long time...Adam needs that song that defines him.. just like Queen's music defines them. He's singing someone else's music and being compared to another ,when He has the goods to be the most unique singer on the planet.
I believe that Queen is a musical university for Adam, but he has to graduate and go off on his own with new ideas, new music that startles and provokes and yes puts him at the top of the musical world. This takes time and Adam is still learning....Album three will hopefully be the charm. If It's not three than #4.. Whatever it takes..Adam will find the words & music to match a voice that defies all logic.

Yeah, that review isn't all bad per se, I just get the feeling that the reviewer tried to say too much all at once. Maybe he should have split his article into 2 parts: in part one, review the show he watched (and which I actually get the impression he liked overall, even though he didn't care for some things) and in part two, make that point (which is perfectly valid) that Adam needs to stand on his own. melliemom, I agree that Adam needs better songs. His talent deserves it. I'm also hoping that the third one's the charm. *fingers crossed*

I'm curious what "better songs" would be? The vast majority of chart topping hits are rubbish over manufactured pulp - not all but many. Sure there have been some of Adam's songs on either album I skipped but that's true of most artists and albums. Trespassing had a number of great songs equal to anything at the top of the charts - that RCA didn't have the balls to back his talent and courage with some of their own isn't on him. Very very few songs on the radio today or at the top of iTunes will be more than musical footnotes in a few years (hell probably less than that). The kinds of huge sweeping bold anthemic songs that artists like Queen released would not even make the playlist if released today. I have no idea what A3 will sound like (though I'd love him to call it that)... I do know that touring with Queen is cementing his credibility and building awareness that will hopefully translate when the time comes. Because hitting it "big" these days is about lots of things and not many of them have to do with the song... #YMMV #IMHO

I will Always love You.. a signature song.. Dolly Parton wrote it ,but Whitney made it Hers...Queen Has many signature songs. I know Adam can sing all types of music and better than anyone else..but Adam's voice is deserving of historic melodys. Granted I may be rushing Adam..to super greatness but that's just how much I think he deserves it. It's on me..BTW I still think Trespassing will be epic one day. I agree lots of pop music stinks, but the tide is turning and some really good & diverse music is starting to appear on radio...Sorry I keep editing what I say... Oh well lots of thoughts after a sleepless night.I should spend as much time on my life as I do on Adams.LOL

It's always the songs that make history and last from one generation to another.. That glorious voice of Adams must be preserved though epic music.Think of all the great music that lasted ,it was through the words and music, not necessarily the vocals...What moves us ,what do we relate to ,what makes us remember when.. like I sometimes say to my husband. You love me? I need the words and the music That. I love Adam's albums (and everything else that he sings, for that matter) - the upbeat songs are fun, the slower songs are beautiful. But they're not EPIC, like Who Wants to Live Forever or The Show Must Go On (or I Will Always Love You). His talent deserves that high caliber of songwriting.

Are we talking great songs or big chart successes? Because they are quite often mutually exclusive. WWTLF charted at #24 on UK (not sure US) and was a part of highlander soundtrack. Likewise Whitneys version of I will always love you from soundtrack to movie Bodyguard. Would it have been the monster hit without that tie? Who knows. More variety on radio is good and hopefully will translate to more open minds for A3. Do I hope Adam works with Bri and roger on something for A3 - you betcha. Does he deserve epic songs - of course. Will "better songs" be a guarantee of greater commercial success (because I think we're past dimmers now) - no.
off to sleep now probably shouldn't post when ass reviewers make me grumpy. It's all good and can't wait to see what the 20 odd city PhD in rock Adam is doing will deliver post QAL!
