Adam Lambert Tells Fans ‘It Takes A Lot Of Guts To Be Different’ Posted by Staff on 07/18/2014 at 5:00 AM NewsAdam Lambert fans take note; the American Idol alum wants you to dare to be “different.” The 32-year-old says that going against the grain “takes guts” and by being unique you’re making a “statement.” Despite touring North America with Queen, the uber-talented singer has found time to front AT&T’s ‘Live Proud’ Campaign and is offering fans a chance to meet him at a private New York event. All they have to do is tweet or upload their personalized meme, expressing what it means to “live proud.” More... popdust.com/2014/07/18/adam-lambert-guts-different-queen-live-proud/

As those who have commented on other reviews have stated previously, "what concert was he attending?" This review reminds me of some of the church ladies I used to deal with in my past congregations -- upright and stuffy. New York reviewers...they gotta be cooler than you... I think the critic intentionally missed Adam's role in this Queen show. Adam is a guest,It's not his show. Of course he showed respect for Freddie and the band.. if the Mr. Times critic wants to see Adam head up his own show then he should do so in the future..Although if I remember correctly, the Times hardly ever mentions Adam Lambert no matter where he is performing.. This was a first.. The fact that he said Adam had his moments with Queen is high praise from this snob.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH DON'T GIVE A TEENY TINY FUCK My favorite gif ever... twice in a week. Yep that's about it... Let me see - I'll take glowing tweets from thousands who were there over opinion of one dude who had probably written what he was going to say before he even went, added a couple of details, put a period on it and called it done before retiring to his bed of nails. I had really hoped that by this point in the tour the whole #FLD part of the proceedings would have abated in light of the great shows, but alas I fear it will dog it to the end. Which begs the question - does Adam finish up this tour as just the guy who did a "good job filling for but will never be as good as Freddie"? I hope not. I think I'll take a leaf out of Cassie's book and believe that this will be looked back on as an iconic tour with Adam riding high in his own right. MSG show obviously rocked so I'm going to break my rationing and dive into the videos to enjoy some measure of the magic that was.

I mentioned this in my recap in the concert thread but the reviewer saying that the backing vocals were probably canned is so egregious. And why? Because they were flawless? That kind of guessing is a bit lazy as the guess is being used as a kind of evidence. Geeez.

Times Square GossipNews From New York City Times Square, The Hamptons, Las Vegas And Hollywood
Friday, July 18, 2014 QUEEN IS THE PERFECT VEHICLE FOR ADAM LAMBERT
QUEEN ADAM --- From PR-pasha Randy Alexander, who was sitting front-and-center in Philadelphia: “Thrilled I decided at the last minute to pick up tix and take my son Harrison to see the Queen and Adam Lambert concert last night. Never much paid any attention to Lambert before, nor have I ever had any desire to consider even semi-seriously following him. But after seeing him last night fronting Queen, he's got a new fan right here, certainly in this vehicle. To say he was perfect in this role is with the greatest respect to Freddie Mercury. I saw the tour with Paul Rodgers six years ago, and Lambert energizes the band in a way Rodgers never did. Lambert not only has the natural flamboyance, but his original interpretations of the Queen catalogue and how to present these indelible songs vocally and theatrically were spot-on while making them his own. More astounding was how effortlessly he delivered his vocal acrobatics - dare I say even more effortlessly than Freddie himself, as was proven each time the video screen gave us the chance to compare/contrast against vintage Mercury clips. True, there was and will only be one Freddie Mercury, rest his soul. But with Lambert out front, ya gotta hand it to him - this version is a greater tribute than ever imagined. It's Killer Queen.” www.timessquaregossip.com/2014/07/queen-is-perfect-vehicle-for-adam.html?spref=tw&m=1

I wonder if Eber was there.
This: interested me because it is so different from my thoughts. I have always appreciated Adam for finding a path that merged a recognition and respect of and for Queen's history, legacy and fan base with a confidence in his own abilities. What the reviewer saw as "fealty," I saw as being appropriately humble, honoring the legend and bringing his own style and joy to the performance. Not in any way subservience.
So to address the backward bendy as "worshipping Brian May?" Hit a really sour note with me. I never ever got a fawning vibe from Adam. And my only observations about the backward bendy were:
first: wow, he is limber, that Pilates is really paying off,"
second, well never mind about the second as it is salacious and prurient,
third: I know, it's only rock and roll but I like it, I like it, yes I do.
I do, however, sense a strong vibe of pretentiousness from this reviewer. I think he got this part wrong. Besides, I want to believe, and haven't seen anything to disabuse me of the notion, that Brian May and Roger love this boy. And that it is a respectful professional relationship rather than anything involving "fealty."
I hope Adam is of the not reading reviews camp. Or if he did read it that Brian and Roger shared their perspective with him. I believe Adam wants a long career, appreciate how he has been building it. Imagine getting a bad review, and having two rock gods there to tell you about their horrible early reviews. And yet, here they are 30 years later playing to sold out arenas of adoring fans. Now that's a real perspective.

That kind of guessing is a bit lazy as the guess is being used as a kind of evidence. Geeez. Yeah I picked up on that too. I have always thought the Times reviewers have a somewhat condensing tone about shows as if they are saying " well I'm an expert and I know better than you." My DH knew very little of Queen's music going into the show and he loved it. Maybe if these reviewers stopped comparing this show to the past they could be a little more objective.

I was on such a high last night and then got so deflated reading that damn crappy review. So I decided that a made-up-mind jerk was not going to dictate my feelings. The joy of the audience was palpable and that is the final review, isn't it.
