I just popped in to say hi to you guys! As it finally turned out I was not able to see any of the tour concerts. It is actually more painful that I thought so need to keep some distance . I will watch recordings eventually but now only saw one streamed concert. However I am curious: Have all concerts been sold out? Is there a thread of figures? I wish wonderful time to all who are still able to see QAL! Enjoy!

Concerning the NYT review, so what! There is a huge difference between having a negative opinion and dissing a performance because you're a cranky, old, self agrandizing jerk - there, now I feel better. Now, about the Philly show. First, I took my nephew, 29 and a naval officer. I couldn't tell you if he listens to Johnny Cash or Judas Priest, but I will tell you he grinned and sang through much of the show. He's a bit of an OCD perfectionist, you know nuclear engineer stuff where mistakes are BAD, but I saw different side of him Wednesday night. He raved about Adam but qualified it by saying this was great but Adam probably couldn't do laid back, quiet songs. Unfortunately, the ride back to my hotel was minimal and he had to be at work the next morning so I had precious little time to set hum straight. I don't think he'll be making random, unsubstantiated observations in the future. Second, the audience. It was a bit schizo. Sometimes they went wild, other times I was embarrassed by their lack of appreciation, or at least they didn't show it, for Bri, Roger, and Neil after their solos. Later, however, they were going wild. My seats were close to the action, so maybe others viewed or heard it differently. Anyway, Detroit and Philly were not nearly enough, so when Smargie mentioned AC on the phone yesterday, my ears perked up. We'll see. Oh, and how many months rent do you have to skip before they can evict you? Lol can't let that happen because won't have a wall to hang my Adam calendar when it gets here!

I just found the perfect response to the NY Times guy and all other clueless reviewers. (Note: Though the caption is photoshopped, the image is supposedly real.) Plus some additional replies from a couple other rock legends: and

I mentioned this in my recap in the concert thread but the reviewer saying that the backing vocals were probably canned is so egregious. And why? Because they were flawless? That kind of guessing is a bit lazy as the guess is being used as a kind of evidence. Geeez. Yeah I picked up on that too. I have always thought the Times reviewers have a somewhat condensing tone about shows as if they are saying " well I'm an expert and I know better than you." My DH knew very little of Queen's music going into the show and he loved it. Maybe if these reviewers stopped comparing this show to the past they could be a little more objective. My complaint is not so much that they are comparing this show to the past. It is that they are comparing this show to the cultural legend/myths of the past. To memories that have altered with time. That is, if they ever even attended a Queen show with Freddie at the helm. I never saw Queen/Freddie live. I was only peripherally aware of them thru their big hits. I HAVE watched many professionally recorded videos of their live concerts to see what the Freddie as front man/rawk god/saint is all about. He is a powerful figure on that stage, and beloved by the audience. However, he does not glow with a divine light, and he does not have a five octave, mighty voice of an archangel. Just sayin'. It appears to me that many people are remembering a Freddie that didn't actually exist. Adam exists here and now. He also does not glow in the dark, and he does not have a five octave range. Just a little over three, thank you. He is highly entertaining, engaging, funny, fun and can pack an emotional wallop with the power ballads that would earn him a standing ovation center stage on Broadway, or even at the Met. He is also sexy as hell on that stage. Brian and Roger look like they are having a fabulous time. They radiate joy. Having also seen vids of Paul Rodgers, I have to think that joi de vivre and energy are inspired at least in part from working with Adam. They all put on one hell of a show, and I have not heard any non-reviewer audience member who walked away thinking they wasted their money, or who left the show early in disgust. We are all too busy sharing a great night of amazing music together.

I was on such a high last night and then got so deflated reading that damn crappy review. So I decided that a made-up-mind jerk was not going to dictate my feelings. The joy of the audience was palpable and that is the final review, isn't it. In the Beginning... Never mind, that opening line's already been used, but at the start of this journey with Adam, I took each criticism and "gate" so seriously until I watched Adam navigate them so flawlessly and decided I didn't need to angst until all the facts were in. It's been fairly smooth sailing since then except an occasional need to make a snide comment on an article, which I make sure is obtuse and general enough that it doesn't reflect poorly on Adam or the fandom. One of my specialties is being bitchy with a smile on my face to confuse my "opponent." Perhaps that is what keeps me young(ish).

Digital Journal ReportsReview: Adam Lambert and Queen amaze at New York's Madison Square GardenExcerpt: The Verdict Queen featuring Adam Lambert was one unforgettable concert experience that I was honored to be a part of. Lambert's superb vocal ability is unparalleled and Brian May is a guitar king. While I have never seen Freddie Mercury live, since he passed away while I was a kid, I thought Lambert did an exceptional job paying tribute to his lengthy body of musical work. You just could not get your eyes off of Lambert, no matter how hard you may tried. Lambert seemed to have a great deal of fun with his outfit changes and theatrics, and the crowd did too. He had good stage presence as did May and Taylor. Somewhere in heaven, Mercury would be smiling upon them, especially since Lambert helped bring Mercury's classic rock music to a younger generation of fans. They garnered an A+ rating.
