cassie, I'm just a little in love with you! You are sating such a lovely itch. I LOVE reading your posts about his singing, the techniques, the notes, the observations. This is my secret pleasure thread!
I'll wait till everyone has discussed ITLOTG, no problem, love reading all the posts.
I really like the idea of the next discussion being about Now I'm Here. It would be fun to go through the songs in show order now. And I think it was an intentional strong introduction for Adam and a statement that he is Not Freddie, that Brian and Roger are well aware that he is Not Freddie. That they support him, and are using this song to make note of the fact that Adam is Here, Now. And of course Adam nails it, kills it, and IMO proves that he is worth every inch of that stage, every note of that song. Brilliant intro, I think. And with a message. Plus of course, he looks every inch the Rock God.
But, very happy ITLOTG was first up for discussion, in case I haven't mentioned it, LOVE THAT SONG.
These are the two ITLOTG I saw.
Las Vegas, first show ~0 to ~3:48 (TALC):
Las Vegas, second show ~0 to ~3:38 (EowynForAdam)

I don't know anything about board logistics, or if space is an issue, but I really think this is a great idea (thanks, nica!). That way everyone could add at will to the specific thread about a specific song. Would make it much easier to follow if all comments were about one song. Cassie's initial post could start us off in each thread. Plus the individual song threads could be posted in show order, one by one. I know it would make a lot of threads, so maybe not possible, but I really like this idea. I guess it would also make a lot of threads to keep up on, but would allow those not interested in certain songs, or more interested in some songs (ITLOTG ) to pick and choose.

OK... I'll start... I love ITLOTG_Revisited when I first heard it in Chicago although at that time, I have no idea what he was singing about since I'm not familiar with majority of the Queen songs. However, because it bacame one of my favorites, I've noticed some variations that I came to a conclusion that the Chicago version is my favorite version. This is not a criticism... just an observation for an "untrained" ear (me) that I've noticed. The Chicago version seemed more controlled (sustained) and the transition smoother... I hope you understand what I'm taking about with the samples below. ITLOTG_R Vocally, for me the best version is in Chicago... I'm not a voice expert but the other versions and this is very minor but I've noticed it from the rest of the same song from other venues. The "inflictions" or "hitch" I've noticed (taking a breath??? or transitioning from head to chest voice??? ) which I did not notice in Chicago... Chicago: parts where he sings "Believe meee" or "funny" .... more sustained and smoother compared to other versions. Hope I make sense, cassie... LA Forum: Notice at 1:52 "Believe me....." The end "meeee" had an infliction that I've noticed not just in LA but in other venues, too. Is it artistic choice? I just prefer the smoothness I heard in the Chicago version. Toronto 2 At 0:52... "It's so funnyyyyy" there is catch or hitch (taking a breath?) .. at the end of funny... Thanks, cassie jerelyn - thank you for pointing put those "inflictions"! They are (as cassie pointed out) are stylistic choices... I LOVE THEM! I know many prefer "straight, no frills" singing, but for my ears -the more the better! As far as Wembley - I remember reading somewhere that Freddie was not in his best vocal shape at the time, so I checked Talon's tutorial here: atop.proboards.com/thread/996/queen-discussion-thread?page=22&scrollTo=299909Unfortunately some YTs have been pulled, but several are still there.... and ya, it is all a matter of taste...for me, on this song - Adam all the way!

Lap of the Gods definitely my favorite song. It is in my head at various times all day. I cannot get rid of it. Brings me to tears when I watch Adam sing Lap in the videos. There is something he puts into the song that goes right to my brain. I love Adam and that song so much.

Well, after 24 shows of listening to ITLOTG, I am finally ready to pick my favorites. It was interesting that it was one of the "under recorded" songs. As of now, there are a couple of shows (Edmonton and Montreal) that had no recording (or no complete recording) of this song at all except for the stream. If anyone knows of any for those shows, I would love to know. Other shows had just spotty recordings compared to some of the other songs. I am guessing it is because it was not that well known.
The main problem in doing this is one's evaluation of the song is heavily influenced by the video that was chosen. But in the interest of not getting crazier than I already am, I kind of went with the better known videographers.
I am just loving this song and it was really fun to listen to the different points of energy Adam injected over the course of the 24 shows and of course, where he improvised or did something special.
So it might be surprising but my top three were Saskatoon, San Jose and Detroit. There were some posts regarding legato versus more staccato versions. I think the staccato parts on "funny" and "money" were effective with the more pointed lyrics. I actually thought Chicago was a little too smooth on that lyric and he stayed kind of in the same place on the choruses - didn't sweep through the stage and catwalk area. Of course, it was the first show. I agree though that the little "hiccup" on the ends of those phrases that was there in many of the shows was perhaps not as sonically satisfying as the smoother phrasing but that may be quibbling. Saskatoon and San Jose were not as distinctly staccato nor were they completely smooth so I liked the balance.
In Saskatoon, it was a flowing and smooth version though not completely legato like Chicago but I especially loved that he went out almost to the thrust and engaged the audience more. You could also hear the band's vocal part "you can do it" more clearly than I remember in the other shows and it sounded cool. Adam was positioned differently on the catwalk for most of the choruses and his stance was very compelling with his head thrown back. (video - adamfan4ever339) San Jose - I liked it overall and also because of the ornamentation in the last chorus. It was the first concert where he got the lyrics right! Prior to San Jose, he was singing "but I'm no fool" for both verses instead of I can't set you free from me - but that's not true. He was totally into that last lyric in this performance and I liked his body language on it the best of the shows. (video coz2mwiz)
Detroit. This one was more energetic and less legato but very integrated and emotive. He had more interaction with Brian on this one which I really liked. It also had lovely ornamentation on chorus (adamsbritbabe aka ScorpioBert)
OK. Now off to listen to NIH. DH thinks I'm nuts. Probably right.

Really enjoying going over each song. The full concert is such an embarrassment of riches that it is nice to step back and concentrate on one song. And I may have mentioned, but I LOVE this song. I want to marry this song and make little ITLOTG babies with this song. Really appreciate the technical talk, but what I come away thinking is, Day-um, that boy can sing his face off (in the overwhelmingly literate words of Mr. R. Jackson). I like the TALC vid from Atlantic City But when I try to think of how to express why I like it, I fall all over myself in a jumble of words like 'the grandeur, " the sweep of his voice," "the way he inhabits a song," "his voice just fills the arena, every corner, every nook and cranny,""he is so fucking hot," oops, I always seem to get sidetracked there, sorry. Plus, I mean, ~1:52 to ~1:53? Who is more adorable than that? And then I like the note at ~2:56 to ~3:02 from IZOD, NJ

I was SOOOO glad they broke this out. I thought they might. And it's a song Adam handled quite well. I can't wait to see the Rainbow version. I popped in here to show you guys a...very rare performance.
On Freddie's birthday party in 1999....Brian gave it a whirl. I think Bri really loves the song and would never do it on tour, but for this he thought what the hell..
