Of course he wanted to win. It's only human nature to get so close to the prize and want desperately to grab it. He may have entered initially to get the exposure, but he wanted it at the end. His competitive nature wouldn't allow otherwise. No doubt in my mind about that. Oprah once said that she always said just being nominated for anything was enough, but when it came time to name the winner, she begged God to let it be her - begged, pleaded and bargained. hehe.

Guys, I really don't understand why, 5 years after the fact and with all that has happened since, people are still stressing about whether or not Adam wanted to win Idol. Why does this matter now? Why aren't we looking forward to what's ahead for him?
It just seems kind of late to be discussing Adam's motivations behind auditioning for Idol. But why wouldn't he have wanted to win once he realized that he had a strong chance of taking the prize (even though as things have turned out, it didn't matter that he took second place)? I doubt that today he regrets coming in as runner-up.
I'll never forget that Idol introduced me to Adam, and will be forever grateful for that. But that's past history, and time to move ahead.

Because this is the news thread (where we discuss Adam news)..... that HuffPo article posted on page 2 is news..... and Adam's quote..... “I also wanted to win the f**king show. I wanted to do well, [and] at that time, in that arena … it would’ve been really, really tough and it would have gotten in the way. I really wanted my singing to be the thing that people were listening to.” is something we have not really heard him say in the more than 5 years since the finale of season 8.
It doesn't mean we aren't looking forward..............

I'm quite fond of history, myself. I love puzzles and and hunting for the piece (fact) that helps give you a better sense the picture (event).

<sigh> I miss Neil's open snarking.
Such a shame that he grew up and got discrete. #onlysortajoking
(He really was such fun to read).
