Yes Another Incorrect Adam’s Best Idol Performances List –
So Let’s Do It Right!
8.19.14 by Q3
I know this forum is filled with Adam aficionados. In fact, I would argue that we are some of the best in the world. So let’s do this list, and get it right. Here is the PopDust list. (I have posted the full article below.)
10: Play That Funky Music — Wild Cherry
9: Rock and Roll All Night — Kiss
8: Tracks of My Tears — Smokey Robinson
7: Ring of Fire — Johnny Cash
6: Feelin’ Good — Nina Simone
5: Titanium — Sia
4: David Bowie Medley
3: We Are the Champions — Queen
2: If I Can’t Have You — Yvonne Elliman
1: Mad World — Tears for Fears
So, I have a game for you. It’s easy. Copy the last version of "The List". Make 1 and only 1 change to improve it. A change is replacing one song on the list OR moving one song that is already on the list up or down.
Then the next player needs to copy your list and can make 1 and only 1 change to improve it. When we get to the end of the day it should be perfect. To demonstrate I have posted my list in the first reply space. So the next player needs to copy MY LIST and make ONE change to it.
You can play as many times as you want BUT you cannot copy and change your own post.
One more thing. Lucky for us list-makers, PopDust expanded the definition of Idol performances to include any Idol show and the Idol tour, not just the competition year.
So, my friends, the game is on! So let’s play with the music!
Bye the way, there are a few errors in the article above -- like the Nile story? Use Google, little glamhoppers. All the facts are there.

Checking in With ... Bob Gunn
New artistic director of MenAlive, a gay men's chorus, talks about music, culture and 'a new attitude.'
By Michael Miller
August 18, 2014 | 1:02 p.m.
MenAlive, the Orange County gay men's chorus, has a new man in charge of making it come alive.
The chorus announced this month that Bob Gunn, a founding member and assistant artistic director since 2002, has taken the helm as artistic director. He replaces Rich Cook, who formed the group in 2001 and oversaw it for 13 years.
MenAlive has three concerts scheduled for the 2014-15 season, all three of them at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, which has served as the group's longtime home. On Dec. 5 and 6, the chorus will present "Jolly Holly Follies," a 1950s-style holiday show; March 27 and 28 will bring "She Got the Beat," a tribute to Lady Gaga, Cher, Beyonce and other female performers; and the season will close with "The One," an Elton John tribute, on June 26 and 27.
Gunn, an Aliso Viejo resident, spoke last week about his history with MenAlive and hopes for the upcoming season. The following are excerpts from the conversation:
…..
It's interesting, looking over the list of people that you're paying tribute to this year — Lady Gaga, of course; you have Elton John, Aretha Franklin and a few others. Are there any particular qualities that make a singer or make a performer a gay icon? Have we ever figured out exactly how that comes about?
[laughs] That's a great question. You know, I imagine that it's different for different periods of time. Years ago, before people were out in their lives, it was a different time. So you kind of, I guess, you noticed the attitudes, and for gay men, maybe the flamboyance of an artist, or sassiness, things that all of us can identify with. I don't want to generalize gay men at all, because we're all very different. But nowadays, it's a much different game.
Artists, a lot of them, are free to be out, like Adam Lambert, and even some of the newer kids who seem to have no hang-ups at all about sexuality issues that, definitely, my generation didn't grow up with. I think, getting back to your question, just great music is certainly attractive, and something that projects confidence and strength and a little in-your-face maybe — well, that's not the right phrase, but just confidence, I guess.
It's certainly been a big era in the last few years in terms of gay rights, with all the breakthroughs they've been having in terms of same-sex marriage, certainly, nationwide. Do you ever see your group as political at all, whether it's in terms of your message or just the fact that you are a gay men's chorus at this point in time?
………
You performed with Liza Minnelli about a year and a half ago. Are there any other artists that you'd really like to perform with in concert?
Mmm, good question. You know, I haven't really thought about that, but just off the top of my head, I just saw Queen with Adam Lambert, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing if we could convince him to come do a show with us.

Adam Lambert’s Top American Idol Performances Ranked In Order Of Greatness
Posted by Suzy McCoppin on 08/18/2014 at 10:30 AM Videos
The Popdust Files: adam lambert, american idol, Queen, simon cowell, videos
Adam Lambert was an American Idol game changer. A true original who set the stage for other contestants to be themselves, not just emulate other pop stars.
Add to that his pitch-perfect, octave-defying, titanic voice, captivating showmanship, and prince charming face, and ladies and gentleman, a star is born.
Here are Adam Lambert’s top American Idol Performances—ranked in order of greatness:
10: Play That Funky Music — Wild Cherry
Here was this pretty white guy from California, but when the opening chords of Wild Cherry’s 1976 one hit wonder began, Adam morphed before our very eyes, and boy was it funky. He laid down the boogie, and played that funky music into stardom. It was immediately apparent that American Idol had a seasoned pro on their hands, as Adam stood in stark contrast to his much greener competitors.
youtu.be/CTv_g2SebWY
9: Rock and Roll All Night — Kiss
Simon Cowell accused Adam of being theatrical at his America Idol audition, but he proved he could rock and roll with the best of them when he joined forces with Kiss. And why wouldn’t he? Both wear make up, have a flair for the dramatic, and captivate audiences all over the world.
youtu.be/ku9B0gaakFA
8: Tracks of My Tears — Smokey Robinson
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when a then 27-year-old Lambert crooned a pared-down, bare bones version of Tracks of My Tears. Even the song’s author, the legendary Smokey Robinson raved, “I was very proud of Adam’s interpretation of my song. He just kept it tender, and sweet, and soft, and I’ve never heard it done like that.”
youtu.be/jjbP2F4lGUc
7: Ring of Fire — Johnny Cash
Conversely, when country music star Randy Travis heard Adam Lambert’s snake-charming version of the Johnny Cash classic, he was horrified! Lambert dared to replace a banjo with a sitar and create a seductive, exotic, sexy time version of a song that, up until that moment, no stripper ever included in her repertoire. But there was no denying that Adam is a fearless artist, a true innovator, and a creative genius. Simon may have said, “It was absolute indulgent rubbish,” but Randy Jackson said it best when he said, “If you can imagine Nine Inch Nails doing a country song, that would be it. It’s hot, it’s young, and it’s fresh!” Popdust heartily agrees.

6: Feelin’ Good — Nina Simone
Once again Adam proved he was fearless in all aspects of performance when he opted for one of the most vocally challenging songs ever tackled on Idol. But Lambert, who comes from a musical theater background, owned the entire amphitheater when he swaggered down the stairs and onto the stage in his white satin suit and played his voice like a five-tone buttery saxophone. It was a new dawn, it was a new day, and Adam had everyone Feelin’ Good.
youtu.be/RjqmNOxsvCc
5: Titanium — Sia
Adam thrilled the audience when he joined Angie Miller on stage for this Sia powerhouse. The harmonizing was truly chilling and the synergy between these two performers was palpable. The gender-bender masterfully hit the high notes while Angie handled the baritone.
youtu.be/q6KdTQc1I5A
4: David Bowie Medley
It didn’t surprise anyone when Adam revealed that David Bowie is one of his biggest inspirations, and the young star was truly in his element on the Season 8 tour when he performed a three-song medley consisting of Life On Mars, Fame and Let’s Dance. Adam took us on an emotional journey with each haunting refrain. International music producer Nile Rogers was so impressed, he called Adam and asked him to perform at a concert for the AFTEE (All For The East End) charity raising money for local non-profits.
youtu.be/X2TsxUyCCGM
3: We Are the Champions — Queen
Only the bravest, or most delusional, attempt to take on the great Freddy Mercury, but our boy did it for his audition! And when he got to fill the shoes of the late great Queen front man in an American Idol performance with Kris Allen, all the original members of the band, even Freddy himself, would have been blown away—and, obviously they were, as Lambert is now officially filling Freddie’s platform shoes as he tours with Queen. But, back to his We are the Champions AI performance—the audience was breathless wondering if Adam could hit the high notes, but, just like Michael Jordan, it was a slam-dunk.
youtu.be/0BiegN4-iT4
2: If I Can’t Have You — Yvonne Elliman
Disco was back in a big way when Adam owned this Yvonne Elliman classic. He tugged at our heartstrings with his emotive “I don’t want nobody, baby,” and brought down the house with his heart-rendering crescendo. For those 5 minutes, CBS studio was Studio 54.
youtu.be/6UZ8I_jk88k
1: Mad World — Tears for Fears
The ever-intrepid burgeoning star chose this Tears for Fears ’80s hit and brought down the house with his dramatic performance. Adam came out of left field with his new wild interpretation, but by the second bar had everyone, including Simon, eating out of his fingerless-gloved hands. Adam’s theatricality demanded an upgrade in Idol’s lighting and effects and paved the way for future contestants to push their creative limits.rm Adam even got a standing ovation from Simon after his performance….and, that, my friends, really says it all.
