Should Adam Cover a Queen Song on A3?
8.24.14 by Q3
I have a great idea for Adam’s new album – how about taking the great Adam Lambert co-writes that typically end up as bonus tracks and try something radical – put them on the basic album. Then use the bonus tracks for some real bonuses – like a Queen cover updated and recorded with Brian and Roger?
Cool right?
>> Let me know what you think. Am I insane? Has waiting for this shrouded-in-secrecy album just been too much to bear? Or is this a great idea?
>> And if you think it is an interesting idea, which Queen song should Adam cover on his album?
I have just the song: “Ride the Wild Wind”
“Ride the Wild Wind” was written by Roger Taylor and sung by Freddie Mercury released on Queen’s fourteenth studio album Innuendo in 1991. The Queen version was released as a single in Poland. A live version of RTWW was also released by Roger Taylor as the B-side of his 1994 single “Happiness?”. It is not on Roger’s album “Happiness?”.
For starters, the lyrics are “Adam-ready”. Here are a few examples:
Push the envelope don't sit on the fence
Live life on the razor's edge
Gonna ride the whirlwind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me
It is a pretty cool song but most people have never heard it, so it would be new to most music buyers.
It is not a “Freddie” song and was written by Roger. So Adam could work with Roger to update some of the instrumentation without the world cracking open.
I posted a video of the song down below. Play it, and imagine Adam singing it, imagine it with Adamized touches and contemporary production. At the worst it would be interesting, and it might be completely cool.
Ride the Wild Wind
Words and music credited to Queen (written by Roger Taylor)
Ride the wild wind
Push the envelope don't sit on the fence
(Hey hey hey)
Ride the wind
Live life on the razor's edge
(Hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the whirlwind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me
Get your head down baby (yeah) we're gonna ride tonight
Your angel eyes are shining bright
I wanna take your hand - lead you from this place
Gonna leave it all behind
Check out of this rat race
Ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me
Tie your hair back baby
We're gonna ride tonight (yeah)
We got freaks to the left
We got jerks to the right
Sometimes I get so low - I just have to ride
Let me take your hand
Let me be your guide
Oooh ride the wild wind
(Don't sit on the fence)
(Hey hey hey)
Ride the wild wind
(Live life on the razor's edge)
(Hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me
Yeah ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Oooh ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Gonna ride it ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me
Ride the wild wind
Ride the wild wind
(Hey hey hey)
The wild wind
The wild wind

A Dilemma with a Solution – "Crowdfund" Good Research
8.24.14 by Q3
Earlier today, Brian May posted about the ALS and animal testing. I did a bit of research and (like many other people) was surprised by what I found.
Many people jumped on board the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge – and it became a celebrity and non-celebrity fad. The cause is compelling. Very few people took the time to research what they were supporting. (Including me.)
Over the past week, a few celebrities have passed on the challenge because they do not support the practice of animal testing. Most prominent was Pamela Anderson a long time animal rights activist and ‘PETA’ advocate posted a letter to her fans on Facebook outlining her reasons for not taking part in the challenge. She wrote:
Sorry -
I can’t bring myself to do your Ice bucket challenge.
I enjoy a good dare- It’s always good to bring awareness – in fun, creative ways / I don’t want to take away from that.
but it had me thinking. Digging a bit deeper. I found that we may not be aligned – in our messages. So…
- I thought Instead / I’d challenge ALS to stop Animal testing /– Recent experiments funded by the ALS Association, mice had holes drilled into their skulls, were inflicted with crippling illnesses, and were forced to run on an inclined treadmill until they collapsed from exhaustion. Monkeys had chemicals injected into their brains and backs and were later killed and dissected

The Daily Banter investigated the claim and received a statement from Chief Scientist for The ALS Association, Lucie Bruijn, Ph.D., MBA who told us that:
“We are currently not funding primate studies and per our statement, support research that adheres to ethical guidelines.”
To me this is sort of a lame and unacceptable response – it only addresses this moment in time, not yesterday or tomorrow.
The Solution: Crowdfund No Animal Testing ALS Research
ALS allows donors to direct their money to projects that reflect the donor’s priorities and ethics. Here is the statement from Carrie Monk, a spokesperson for the ALS Association
Significant advances have been made in ALS and other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease using model systems such as rodents, flies and worms to better understand disease mechanisms and to develop therapies. With advances in technology made possible through research funding from The ALS Association, different approaches to minimize the use of these model systems are being developed. Similar to organizations globally, The ALS Association supports laboratories and scientists that strictly adhere to the guidelines provided by the National Institutes of Health. The Association is committed to honoring donor intent. If a donor is not comfortable with a specific type of research, he or she can stipulate that their dollars not be invested in that particular area.

ICE BUCKET FALLOUT - AND ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION
Thanks for all your congratulatory messages over my performance for the ice bucket challenge.
Well, I'm full of admiration for the way this campaign was set up …
It really has lit a fire around the world which has spread very quickly - largely, of course, because it's fun, but also everyone, including me, has felt it was a great cause to get behind. A great friend of ours recently died of Lou Gehrig's Disease - Eric Lowen. Some of you may remember the track I recorded with Lynn Carey Saylor for him - and with him - his song We Believe, not long before he died of this horrible, incurable wasting disease; so I had a personal reason for getting involved with ice buckets.
Of course I jumped in and got wet - I like a challenge.
But I'm now in an uncomfortable spot. As a campaigner for animals, every bit of information gets to me.
My contribution to the ALS campaign is already out there, but I now realise that ALS is an experimenter on animals.
Not only on animals .. but apparently, I am told, on primates - which to me is one of the most abhorrent aspects of laboratory animal 'use', and perhaps the hardest to justify.
It's been demonstrated very clearly (for example, by the Hadwen Trust) now that medical results obtained by experiments on animals are not only hideously cruel and morally indefensible, but often dangerously misleading as well (Thalidomide being a prime example). More and more, ways are being found to substitute difference science to supersede the animal-based methods - methods which are also more rigorous and more effective in advancing knowledge towards cures for human illnesses.
So now I have a new challenge - to find my way through that jungle.
ALS's publicists have done incredibly well lighting that fire of awareness. And of course it IS a good cause.
But now I might have to try lighting another fire …
Cheers
Bri
