I think Adam sounds better with male back up singers also. I never got used to the girls. I remember when he was in London at a show and he had male back up singers. They sounded great. Anybody else remember that. But, if I remember correctly, the back up there was not actually singing. Anyone else remember that?

It's never really been explained but I believe it's a song about youth getting bored and needing to break out and go crazy.... Of course "playin' on my slide trombone' is a nice entendre.... Oh, good one -- There are two entendres in that line.....bet it was written by Freddie! He was more subtle than Adam but there are many of these in Freddie's lyrics -- and this song was mostly written by Freddie. (He talked about SCC a bit in an interview in 1975 about "Sheer Heart Attack" -- but mostly spoke about its origin.) Rainy afternoon I gotta blow a typhoon and I'm playing on my slide trombone
Ha ha ha. I never noticed that one. Only took 40 years of listening to that song. ETA: Adamrocks, you may or may not want to include this one on the list for your brother. Depends on his attitudes! LOL Q3, whether or not you'd noticed that one (you innocent little thing, you), Adam's clearly right there with Talon on his interpretation ! Just one example: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=lhTy7m68qp8#t=79But these days he's mostly making judicious use of the mike-stand on that line, LOL. :D ETA: picture Sam Smith doing that, heh.

Someone explained Sam's sex appeal perfectly to me! He is sexless. This generation's Barry Manilow. Threatening to no one!

Anybody else remember that. But, if I remember correctly, the back up there was not actually singing. Anyone else remember that? Yes, you are correct, they were not really singing -- it was a backing tape. *** Regarding back-up singers and Adam -- I think that the song matters. If they are there to sort-of replicate a recording of Adam on backing vocals (like for FYE and Trespassing), it is hard to find men who can do that and not sound thin and whiny. If we are going to plan a non-existent tour for Adam -- my priority order is: 1. Adam. Adam Adam. (OK that is my list!) 2. Great sound engineer, plus dedicated production manager. 3. His own tour lighting, laser and sound system vs. having to use the venues' systems. 4. Cool set with big screen and at least 3 live cameras, and tour videos for atmosphere. Not as big and elaborate as Katy Perry's but something as exciting and digital. 6. A really solid backing band with musicians who can sing. 6. Great costumes, hair and makeup. (In my experience Adam sings best when he likes the way he looks.) 7. Dancers if appropriate for A3. 8. Nice venues. Big venues. 9. Pryo curtain. ... 19. Polite security guards. 20. Really good bar at the venue. 21. Convenient parking. 22. Fanclub presale tickets that are actually the best seats. .... 46. Clean restrooms with no long lines. .... 89. All my friends get great seats and M&Gs -- OK if I could make it happen it would be #3 on my list. Since I do not have the power, it is #89. .... 1007. Back up singers. In other words, back up singers are a very low priority for me. Somewhere below no green lasers.

Barry Manilow...... *shudders* Which is evidently why I will buy a song or two, but would never go out of my way to see Sam live. Apparently my ears don't mind palatable...... my eyes (and the rest of me for that matter) not so much. ETA: and I used the word 'sexless' as a descriptor a few pages ago.
