I wrote this in 2012 after first QAL and I will repeat it now - IMHO first of all there is need for a better backing band for Adam. Because the difference is just painfull to watch and hear and you can't really to evolve and iprove when you stick to mediocrity out of loyalty. And I really appreciate his loyalty. Loyalty is a 2-way thing! And IMHO, Adam's keeping his current band has more to do with their loyalty to Adam than with Adam's loyalty to them! To keep really excellent musicians, Adam would have to be able to keep them busy with work so that they do not get pulled off into more lucrative jobs in the down time and then are no longer available to Adam when he needs them. And he just can not guarantee that for A3 when it did not happen for Trespassing to the same extent that it happened for FYE. When it became apparent that there would be no US tour for Trespassing, Adam lost Isaac, a really good drummer, to other more lucrative & creative jobs. Then Adam ends up with a drummer from Atlanta. If there are so many excellent musicians in Los Angeles who would love to work with such a gifted voice as Adam's, then why did he have to hire a drummer from 2,000+ miles away??? Likely because Adam could not promise him the amount of work needed to keep a really excellent musician. And IMHO, having a band member 2000 miles away was the biggest issue with Adam's band because they could not practice together as a band the way they should have for the one-off concerts. In some cases, they only practiced together for the first time in a while the day of the concert, and in some cases that was cut short due to outside factors such as the venue being moved indoors. Adam really needs to find a long term drummer in the Los Angeles area. No matter how good the musicians, they need to play together a lot to really gel as a band. (Even Q3 commented on how much more QAL had gelled as a band at the IHR gig. And others have made the same comment about the current QAL tour.) And how much they play together is really up to Adam since he has to pay them every time they practice as a band (remember, backing musicians are all members of a union and are paid for every hour). Also, really excellent musicians need to be able to really express their talent and creativeness. And that generally means that they need to have a hand in the process of creating the music. Or at least, the music needs to have been written in such a way as to allow great instrumental parts. Rock band music is generally written that way, but pop music is not. Except for Nile's guitar work on Shady and some additional guitar work by TJR on Cuckoo, the instrumentals for the Trespassing album were all generated on a computer by a producer. Adam has talked about how difficult it was to translate that electronic music into band music. If Adam wants to hire really excellent musicians for A3 touring, then he needs to have really excellent real instrumental music written to back his vocals on A3. If Adam had to audition new band members every time he wanted to do a one-off concert, it would be a big drain on his time and energy (and money). So he needs band members who will stick with him during the slow and uncertain times. Since Adam gave him his first big break, Tommy would definitely stick with Adam through thick & thin and has said so. Ashley has also said that Adam is her main priority despite being able to land a gig with Cee Lo Green. Since Brian London has toured with some big names, I think he would be the more likely one to leave Adam for a bigger tour. But I think Rick is the only one that Adam might seek to replace just due to the location issue. Also, I think Adam looks at other factors besides just how excellent of a solo musician a band member is or is not. At the beginning of the Trespassing era, Adam mentioned in several interviews that the current incarnation of his band was way better than his previous band. (And the way Adam emphasied it made me believe that he really felt this way and that his saying so was not just a PR thing.) I think most fans would agree that Monte was overall a much better guitar player than Tommy, especially in terms of spontaneous guitar rock solos. And yet Adam says a band with Tommy as lead guitarist is much better than a band with Monte as lead guitarist!!! Why??? From some of the hints Adam gave, I think it is because Tommy is willing to play as a team member of a band rather than wanting to basically show off his skills at the cost of band unity. And Tommy is willing to play with a blues or funk style, or whatever style Adam wants, while Monte wanted to play everything in a rock style. Great, great post. I've tried to voice an opinion about the subject on Twitter but never so eloquently. I don't think most people think through the logistics of hiring a touring band. It's not as if you can call on Slash or even Orianthi when the appearances are sporadic and tour dates uncertain. I'm not a fan of Rick or Brian, Brian more because I find him disruptive, haha, the high school teacher mentality, maybe, don't interrupt! Anyway, it seems to me that MP, being older and used to being a friend as well as music dir felt more free to improvise or go off on tangents, where TJ is more reticent about showing off. It's like your mom feels she can speak her mind but your mil thinks before she adds her two cents. Anyway, I don't think it's a character flaw that Adam is so loyal, nor, despite the fact he isn't Brian or E Van H, do I think TJ deserves the meanness that is thrown his way. Much of it, I feel, is because of the Adommy freaks, but you can't blame him. Soooo, again, great job voicing my thoughts. Thank you.

Madamimadam had her Vimeo account wiped out. It is not clear to me what she posted that triggered this but she had a lot of copyrighted material posted there. If could easily have been a request from one of over a dozen media companies. If what is posted is "too professional" like Mark's multi-cams, they will eventually be removed by YT and most of the major video sites. I think these would be hard to defend as posted for discussion or any other part of Fair Use. Queen (Brian specifically has done this) has been very gracious to fans and allowed audience videos and even full album copies to be posted on YouTube. Most contemporary artists understand that allowing video to be online is part of promotion. Most artists who came up in the 1970-1999 pre-digital era, this is less common. Thankfully, Queen gets it. I suspect that Mark Bowles multi-cam videos would be less likely to be taken down if he cut them up into individual songs rather than one long full concert video. It would also be easier for folks to download the YouTube video and make their own DVDs if he did this. Excellent idea Dancy. The full length concerts (even the one not by Mark) have been blocked. I PM'd Mark to see if he would consider doing the "down under" shows that way. Hard to ask him to rework the ones he already did. Maybe there is a private site that would host them and have it discreetly known.

Adam has talked about the lack of privacy and the standards to which celebrities are held in several interviews. Here's one where he says celebrities are not allowed to "mess up." The whole interview is a gem. Well worth watching all 45 minutes of it.
ETA: I see that despite having over 22,000 hits, this is actually an "unlisted" video. So, not private, but I should probably refrain from posting it publicly. It is from the Canadian show "In Sixty." You can download it from devenlane's site, or, PM me and I will privately give you the YT link.

I would snag a ring like that on every towel, t-shirt, cat, dog, and quilt in my entire house! Too pointy!

Another great concert review!!! Concert Review: Queen + Adam Lambert Posted on September 2, 2014 by SR Brisbane Entertainment Centre, September 1, 2014 Before last night's Queen + Adam Lambert concert, I was hardly enthused by the idea of an American Idol alumnus fronting Queen. Standing in for Freddie Mercury is challenging enough, but it's exacerbated by question marks over the authenticity of even calling it `Queen' without the presence of Mercury or retired bassist John Deacon. Since he passed away in November 1991, many have tried to fill Mercury's shoes. Some (George Michael at the Wembley Tribute Concert) have made a much better go of it than others (Jesse J at the Olympics). But even the best have struggled to truly capture Freddie's campness, charisma and vocals without straying into imitation territory. Until now. The questions I had over Lambert's suitability were answered by the first couple of songs (`Now I'm Here' and `Stone Cold Crazy') . The man can sing. And I mean really sing. He brought to Brisbane the arena-filling falsettos, the outrageous outfits and the flamboyance that fronting Queen demands, together with his own brand of glamour and brash stage presence. When Brian May asked the crowd what they thought of the "new guy", the answer was a resounding roar of approval. Read more at: www.scott-russell.net/?p=1093

Got ya. I did not realize you were from another country because I did not notice your location indicated that. Apologies for misunderstanding your words but again, everyone views celebrities differently so it might not be completely fair to paint everyone with the same brush. You are right of course, but I notice that really to many people treat celebs like that. Lack of emapthy, I think. From one ponit of view they want celeb to be something like god, who know everything and is almighty, from the other cleb sholud be like we are, ordinary man they can relate to - how most of famous people don't go crazy with those kind of expectations, I really don't know. After writing it I feel a big wave of appreciation for Adam. I think perhaps it is more than people like to tear others down who are in the public eye. It is a sad commentary in our world of 24/7 social media. It is one of the reasons I am not on twitter. The things I see just off hand that are said make my skin crawl.

Seems a bit early in the A3 era to be worried about Adam's band for his tour. Adam has not even finished A3 yet. Setting that aside, I care more about him touring with people that he wants to tour with. I would rather have a happy, inspired Adam than a different set of musicians. I suspect that as much as I would love to see him hook up with a brilliant band, including an A-Level lead guitarist for his solo tour, I do not want to go to an Adam solo concert and hear long rock guitar breaks or have to suffer through drum solos. (Thinking of the GNT band, Longineau.) I would be very happy to have Zack return on keys. I do not want Adam to turn into a rock frontman, I want him to remain the pop-rock chameleon that I love. So whatever else, I want Adam + a touring band + dancers + sets + costumes + a big show, not Adam as part of a band. it is never too early to think about what the future holds for A3 IMO. These are just musings to pass the time and obviously nothing that the fans want will impact what really happens anyway. I care about Adam touring with people he wants to tour with also but I also care about Adam and his voice getting the best support and representation live that he can have. Dropped chords and bum notes ruin the experience of a live performance. I do not recall excessively long drum solos during the GNT other than when Adam introduced the band to the audience and that was Longineau's moment to shine so he took it. If this tour with Queen has done nothing else I hope it has shown Adam how important it is to be surrounded by musicians who force him to up his game in a live setting rather than having to "dumb down" his vocals to meet their mediocre playing.
