Just curious if the general consensus is that Adam did not have much say as to what single was released first on Trespassing. If not, I question his role as Exec Producer. Or, does the Exec Producer have more control over what songs are placed on the album and the record execs have more control over which single is released? Also, we all understand that Adam is not genre specific. Considering this past year and all the different audiences he introduced himself to, and taking into consideration all genres, what type of music do you think would generally appeal to everyone - personal preferences aside. I was thinking that after this last tour that a number of folks would have become more curious about Adam's music. I did go back and listen to everything and there were a number of standouts from both FYE and TP that still sounded fresh -- some even sounded better the second (thousandth) time around. Was there a spike in any of the download numbers that we could use to determine which songs were connecting the most? And, before I get busy with RL, did it bother anyone else that Adam included the hashtag "3 times a charm"? That sort of hit me the wrong way. I hope he was speaking of financial success and not creative success -- I don't know. An Executive Producer of an album is the albums business management role -- just like in the movies or TV. Adam had creative approval separate from his role as EP. An EP is responsible for hiring the music producers, sound engineers, musicians, dealing with rights and royalties, managing the schedule and budget, managing the packaging, etc. When an artist is the EP, they usually get extra money for this. Adam almost certainly got paid to be EP for Trespassing. >> I would not be surprised to see him with an EP credit on A3 too. Just like he ran his tour. He appears to be a very good businessman. ** With only a few exceptions, the label picks the singles. The label is funding the project and paying the artist. The label bears the financial risk. Thus, they are the ones who control the product marketing and promotion. [The exceptions are mega stars who specifically negotiate control over the single selection. Very, very rare.] Normally, the artist is involved and part of the team that recommends the single selection -- and we know Adam was involved in the discussion of FYE and Trespassing singles. He also worked really hard to get radio PDs/MDs to support one of his songs, and RCA tested 4 tracks "Naked Love", "Cuckoo", "Trespassing" and NCOE. The only song of that batch that generated either PD/MD, or consumer/music listener interest in the test was NCOE (they remove fan spamming from Hit Predictor and rely mostly on a subset of data from regular panel participants). It is easy to blame the label for bad single choices, but in the case of Trespassing it was not filled with potential mega pop hits. That does not mean it was not an excellent album, it just means that it was not crafted for pop radio acceptance. It was Adam trying to say something important and trying to do something innovative with his music.

I am reading the mashed potatoes the same as Q3! Single before end of November! And here are some possible "big performance" shows! AMAs!! Grammys! Let me add my dream for this one! Adam not only performs his single here, but he also performs with Queen, who finally gets their Grammy! I like this. AMAs would be a perfect circle of life. And this would be a great time for Queen to get a lifetime-type Grammy with a triumphant tour and the DVD release. I hope the Grammy people wouldn't be too embarrassed (ashamed) to give them the nod after having snubbed Queen when they were all together as a group. Adam performing with them at the awards show would be amazing.

Remember how I know that Adam is not a kind of artist to pop albums every other Monday, but it still doesn’t stop me from getting cranky and impatient while waiting for another one? Well, that’s because I want it too much Also, I knew that his working regime is rigorous, but I just wanted to make sure. So, I tracked his major activities since the Trespassing release on May 15th, 2012, up until the very beginning of QAL in 2014, after which his regime turned from rigorous to downright insane, as we all know. It’s a little over two years' time period. During it, he had only six (6) breaks, to catch his breath and rest a bit, I assume; during neither of those breaks was he completely invisible or silent. I did not include major or minor press releases, all photo shoots or interviews, TV reports, indirect talks, twitter parties, and other fun stuff which keep us entertained. So, here goes: 15. 5. 12. – Trespassing release day. This is supposed to be just an illustration, I did not try too hard to be correct and proof check everything, but I think this is right. It felt good to be reminded. Knowing how many actions had to precede every performance and every concert, every business move or private life decision, this list is just a mere skeleton of what appears to be a schedule of a busy bee/eager beaver of epic proportions. The only way I see that it would have been possible for him to release albums more frequently is if he were the type of a performer to have his album written and produced for him and everything apart from singing done for him, basically. Which will happen some time around never, so Enjoy the ride!

Regarding A3, from previous discussions here aren't Nov/Dec the 'lowest choice' months to put out a single and the same for first/second quarter for albums? It is hard to see how this A3 scenario is new or creative if it has to follow the same general plan of release (per Shoshanna). It seems as if other artists put out singles well before the entire album is done, but maybe appearances are not what they seem. While I think Trespassing is creative, I agree with Q3 that it did not have a lot of mega hits, I may even listen to FYE more, which was done very quickly. So financial success will have to come from the quality/catchiness of the songs.
As an aside, my spouse heard Ed Sheeran on the Howard Stern show - said he had not heard much about him before (does not listen to pop radio) but he did one song and said he was not impressed (whereas he thought Gaga on the Stern show was great singing-wise). All of this is just to say it is hard to figure out what will be successful, SO many artists 'out there'; luck must play into it too.
Just sharing some thoughts, not to start a debate about album strategy. Time for Glee and Queen certainly was well worth the time it took away from other projects (eg, recording).
