July 17, 2008 Adam auditions for American Idol.
September 13, 2008 Adam does his second audition for Idol.
January 20, 2009 “Mama…..” Adam’s audition is broadcast.
May 20, 2009 Adam performs WATC with Queen.

Now, 5 years later Adam has just finished a massive half-the-world tour with Queen, and he is headed back to Idol to be a fill-in judge. Oh, and in his spare time he is finishing his third studio album.

Adam has notched a lot of Idol firsts. Here are a few....but I know there are many more:

1. First Idol contestant to perform Led Zeppelin.

2. First Idol alum to be a mentor. And first Idol alum to return as a mentor.

3. First performer to have lasers for an Idol performance.

Adam. “I brought lasers! I wanted to do something a little different.”

4. First Idol to perform standing on the judges table (I think!)

5. Person to wear a cat-o-nine tails as a fashion accessory on Idol. (And probably the last. )

Now, he will be the first Idol alum to judge American Idol for the NYC Call Backs. This show will probably be broadcast in February.

Adam Lambert to Judge 'American Idol' New York Auditions

It wasn't all that long ago -- the American Idol season-12 finale in 2013 to be exact -- when Adam Lambert told The Hollywood Reporter how he would love to serve as a judge one day.

"Where do I sign?" he cracked on the red carpet. Now just over a year later, Lambert will get his chance filling in for Keith Urban at Wednesday's season-14 auditions being held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Lambert is stepping in due to unfortunate circumstances, as Urban is grieving with his wife, Nicole Kidman, who tragically lost her father, Dr. Antony Kidman, last week.

American Idol shared the news through the show's Twitter account Sept. 15, writing, "Adam Lambert will be serving as guest judge at the NY auditions. Our thoughts are with Keith and his family during this difficult time."

Lambert is judging the callback auditions alongside Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. He previously mentored the season-13 contestants alongside season-five alum Chris Daughtry.

Adam Lambert Replaces Keith Urban for ‘American Idol’ New York Auditions

Adam Lambert will return to the house that built him when he steps in for Keith Urban as a judge for the “American Idol” New York auditions. Urban is with his wife Nicole Kidman, grieving the loss of her father last week.

The show broke the news via its Twitter account, writing, “Adam Lambert will be serving as guest judge at the NY auditions. Our thoughts are with Keith and his family during this difficult time.”

This is Lambert's second time back on “Idol” after he took second placed during Season 12. He came back during Season 13 as a guest mentor alongside Chris Daughtry from Season 5. Both men represent artists who failed to win “American Idol” and still went on to great success in the entertainment industry. Daughtry came in fourth during his season.

Auditions will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday. Season 14 of “American Idol” returns to Fox in early 2015.

The Live Proud Finale rehearsal will be between September 8 and October 8, 2014 in NYC and Adam will be there.
