Well, I thought I would post to say I finally got my QAL t-shirts! Yay! Now I can wear my shirt when I go to visit my sister and friends later this week! It was also great to see the photos of Adam looking AMAZING at the Idol auditions today--lucky auditioners!

If we pretend that Idol has the goal of finding and promoting great singers and entertainers, and the judges are there to mentor contestants as well as choose them (just go with me on this fantasy), the judging panel in NYC is probably the best they have had.  The Idol judges mentor the contestants?? I have never heard this! Oh, wait... is that part of the fantasy? LOL I'm confused.  |

Bringing over two posts from yesterday. I'm kind of later getting through the thread but was surprised that Aprilmarie816 was the only post I noticed that commented on the content of Artistsupporter's tweet. I was thinking the same thing as Aprilmarie but assumed it would have been a topic of discussion.

If we pretend that Idol has the goal of finding and promoting great singers and entertainers, and the judges are there to mentor contestants as well as choose them (just go with me on this fantasy), the judging panel in NYC is probably the best they have had. Harry Connick is a classically trained and educated musician. His specialty was classical,jazz and funk piano. He is a career musician active professionally since 1990. His style may be retro, but he KNOWS music, arranging, and producing. We all know of Adam's credentials. He studied voice for a dozen years, starting at the age of ten, and including a year of opera training. He has been performing on stage since 1991. He KNOWS voice production and techniques, singing styles, and stage presentation. Has there ever been another judge on the panel with formal voice training? Between the two of them, they can speak intelligently and knowledgeably about singing and performing, about arrangements, interpretations, genres, styles, and staging. They are both highly qualified and capable of giving informed, cogent, helpful feedback to aspiring singers/performers. JLo? Well, she looks pretty, and she is a movie star. Still, two out of three on the judging panel have the background to evaluate, advise and coach new singers/performers. Of course, we know that AI does not pick their judges primarily for their ability or qualifications for judging and mentoring. Or their knowledge and intelligence in general, it would seem. But, if they did, they Tdo a lot better than Adam and Harry.
I don't know if you have watched last season of Idol. I did watched a couple of them last season and you'd see the bolded part above. The interaction and discussion between Harry and Keith was exactly that, "intelligently and knowledgeably about singing and performing, .. arrangement, interpretations.. etc". Keith even at one point advised one contestant how to sing correctly (technically) so the guy wouldn't ruin his vocal cord. That's why I was so glad that Harry came onboard, because you clearly can see that Keith Urban's not just a pretty face. When they started talking about interpretation, arrangement, singing, etc.. it's clearly over Jlo's head and you can see from her face, that it's a high level music & performance discussion.. LOL. The different between Keith and Harry? Keith Urban's kinder to the contestant than Harry, so much kinder.
So the combination between Keith-JLo-Harry or Keith-JLo-Adam or Adam-JLo-Harry are good combinations, IMO. Though should be interesting if they have Keith-Adam-Harry.. lol.. 3 very good looking and very smart men in music... maybe it won't be that good, too many Alpha on the panel.
Anyway, I like that Idol has called Adam to fill in for Keith. I don't know if I want him to be there for the whole season as a judge. It's not my dream anymore. Maybe for a couple of audition or they call him again to be a 4th guess judge for one of the live performance.. OR mentoring for one of the week and off course he is performing his single on AI next year..

  I so totally agree with both of these posts! I am very much looking forward to the discussions between Adam and Harry! And what is JLo good for besides looking pretty and being sweet to the contestants? Well, she is a very good dancer and could help the contestants with their dance choreography.  ETA - But let's also remember that like JLo, Paula was sweet, emotional, and the least knowledgable about music from a technical perpsective. But yet she was the first to recognize just how talented Adam is! |
