Seeing there are probably more than a few people unfamiliar with my fellow Aussie here's a bit of high level ... Keith Urban has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of popular music and is a first class guitarist (he can seriously shred). He has also had his own issues with his voice and had to have an operation a few years ago so am sure he's learned a lot through that experience. Aside from that he's known to just be a really nice person who is grateful for his success (he's also got a kick ass backing band that have been with him for years - but not to kick that dead horse).

I think Keith is great,I discovered him a while back when he first started getting popular here in the states.. yes he is all that you say he is and more.. It's sad that Keith's loss is giving Adam a spot, but I can't stop from being excited, having wished for Adam to be a judge for a couple of years now.. I think It's a very kind of Adam to fill in for Keith at the last minute..However,Album #3 is waiting...

If we pretend that Idol has the goal of finding and promoting great singers and entertainers, and the judges are there to mentor contestants as well as choose them (just go with me on this fantasy), the judging panel in NYC is probably the best they have had. The Idol judges mentor the contestants?? I have never heard this! Oh, wait... is that part of the fantasy? LOL I'm confused. I am not a big fan of idol anymore but fair is fair. The few shows I saw, I was impressed with Keith Urban. I think he is a very caring individual who did give constructive criticism in a very kind way but did not back off when it was needed. He seems very knowledgable (not that I would know in these genres) and a team player. Harry also seemed knowledgable and obviously not afraid to criticize but too much bite and capricious.

So Harry is this judges team's Simone. Actually, I like Harry better than Simone.

Bringing over two posts from yesterday. I'm kind of later getting through the thread but was surprised that Aprilmarie816 was the only post I noticed that commented on the content of Artistsupporter's tweet. I was thinking the same thing as Aprilmarie but assumed it would have been a topic of discussion. Danceygeorgia from p.1 Aprilmarie816 fro p. 19 Shosh's tween certainly indicates SOMETHING went on last year. Or not. That tweet from the fan implies the decision should have been made by sentiment or some other intangible reason. I think Shosh was just driving home the fact that business doesn't work like that. "Do the right thing?" Huh? Business is business, and each party is looking out for themselves. I thought it was a stupid thing to say.

As most of you know, I am a HUGE Idol fan! How huge? I have watched every show since midway through season one. Yes, I even watched all of Season 9! Last year, Harry was my least favorite judge. Total camera hog. Tries too hard to be funny. And surprisingly, his knowledge of songs and modern music doesn't hold a candle to Keith's. Harry is great in his genre. Outside his genre, he was clueless! Keith is a walking music encyclopedia! If you are judging "Harry as a judge" by his previous times on Idol as a mentor, don't. You had to watch last year to get a full picture!

"Do the right thing?" Huh? Business is business, and each party is looking out for themselves. I thought it was a stupid thing to say. It depends on the interpretation of Shosh's tweet. If she had said, "It doesn't work that way," I would think it was a comment about the business of Idol. But her statement was in the past tense. Past tense as in "last year" meaning possibly he was offered the job and turned it down? Or past tense as in when they asked Adam to fill in for Keith, it wasn't because it was the "right thing" to do? We may never know until the biography is published, and I may be long gone by then, or have forgotten what American Idol is.

I can't remember exactly when I discovered Keith Urban but his story is very groundbreaking in the country music scene. From what I understand from a music special that I watched, he has been playing since he was a young boy. His parents took him to an Australian music contest each year and he would win his divisions. When he came to Nashville, he really struggled as his style of "country" was a new sound and the "good ol' boy" network was not too pleased with it. He was not an overnight success.
I've always admired his strength to stay the course even through bouts of addiction and rejection. AND, he puts on a GREAT show -- really an engaged performer.
