The Trespassing lyric sheet says roll it out, and that is how Adam sings it, as far as I can tell. I think we are describing a dance move here, not taking anything out of one's pants. Also, I think "get your ass" is pretty common usage - get your ass out of that chair and exercise, get your ass going or you'll be late, etc.
So I think it could have been successful, as could several other songs from the album.

nonotme---I guess that's why I never heard anything objectionable or obscene in the song to begin with-and was puzzled by my son's interpretation. Seems like we all hear what we want to hear. For me-the music and the beat just swept me away-and still does!In my opinion-one of the best songs-from Adam or anyone!

BTIKM had a lot of promotional support. RCA was 100% behind it -- and it was their #1 pick for a single. It was a minor hit on HAC and charted at #76 on the Billboard Hot 100 almost completely on promotion radio airplay. But it was a miss. (That is a fact, not my opinion.) >> The timing and strategy were messed up but one thing is certain, BTIKM got a fair shot and was not a hit. BTIKM was available to almost anyone for over 2 years -- I continue to think that RCA A&R made a mistake picking that for Adam. JMHO it was a dated synthpop ballad when it was released -- sounds worse now. It is a formulaic pop song -- and is forgettable. There is virtually no baseline involved with that song -- just a lame synth line laid in there. And the biggest miss in that song, is the modded Adam's vocals! RCA was trying to replicate Adam's biggest hits -- WWFM and Mad World -- but they messed it up by having a song with lame lyrics, synthpop orchastration, and letting Dr. Luke anywhere near Adam. >> Proving that RCA had become braindead by 2012, the second single from Trespassing was also a Dr. Luke-produced synthpop confection. For this one, they bought a Bruno Mars reject and then made it soulless. (NCOE). I still think that the best lead single for Trespassing would have been "Cuckoo" or (if they had any guts) "Pop That Lock". It is pretty easy to see what Adam thinks of BTIKM --- performed in concert 17 times, last performed on March 22, 2013. For comparison, Trespassing has been performed in concert 78 times and is one of his show closers. RCA released the only two songs on the album that didn't sound like the rest of the album and worse than that we had to wait for Bruno Mars and Dr. Luke to finish the piece of junk that was NCOE, delaying the album a couple of months. The album was perfectly cohesive if you take out the two songs RCA stuck in there. I get a little po'd every time I think about it.

And Get your ass down to the front is like "get your ass over here" to me. Common phrase! Great song! It has been my ring tone for two years and that intro gets strangers bobbing their head when my phone goes off!!

Well I know he performed it sanitized during promo but my copy of the album that I just listened to in order to check is very definitely "pull" not "roll" and "gay" not "game" and he said openly that the song was about cruising in the clubs. Lyric sheets are definitely not gospel and are often sanitized in weird ways. Even U2 song lyrics have been rephrased to gloss over sexually suggestive things. I didn't see the lyric sheet until after I had listened to the song and was confused as to why people were saying that it was roll and game because I didn't hear that at all.

While I totally agree with all this, I think we had the discussion that the week it was released might have been one of the only ones where it could have debuted at #1 and then when you throw in the first openly gay artist to ever have a #1 debut, this is something that can never be taken away. It is a permanent history book fact. Doesn't make up for lousy job RCA did but at least something extremely noteworthy came out of the project

Unless you are RiRi,Katy Perry ,Justin Timberlake or Barbra Streisand. almost an assured hit no matter what.. IMHO it is so hard to judge what will become a hit,It's kind of like winning the lottery. The song has to appeal to a wide range of people because It's catchy ,relevant.et. I thinking of GET HAPPY... in this world of violence, craziness and OT fear... Get Happy is just the antidote, for me anyway.. Then if a song reminds you of a love, past love,ya know and you can relate..But I mean the Korean guy with that zillion sell. who knew.. Sorry can't remember song or artist .. Here today, gone today...that is my memory I'm talking about..LOL

Brand new gay?? I don't think so! I hear game, Without a doubt. The "m" is very clear. The pull/roll is a tosss up. But Adam said i is roll and he sings roll, so i have to go with that! Actually, both those lyrics are very tame for many Pop and/or R&B songs these days! The majority of people who hear it on the radio do not listen to Adam's interviews about song meanings. Taking the lyrics for face value, it is about putting your dancing shoes on and going to an underground club to get your kicks, whatever they may be. Bruno Mars could sing this song! Any straight artist could! In Pop, lyrics aren't even that important! It's all about the beat! And the hook! And Shady just sticks in your head!

Shady is my favourite track on the album - and NCOE is my least favourite. I can't listen to it - I don't even like Adam's voice on it - it's that bad for me.
Whenever I hear Shady, I think what a wasted opportunity and it saddens me.
As regards Shady's lyrics, I honestly can't believe in this music day and age that there would have been a problem. Can't find anything objectionable myself and I find plenty I don't like in much more 'popular, and radio-played songs.
