As always, late to the party, but re. "Melvin"  I found this post from May 2013 on another Adam fan site!  (by luval at 6.46 p.m.) www.adamlambertlive.org/2013/may-2013-chat/comment-page-45 Of course I don't know if a porn star with a similar beard was the real reason how "Melvin" got his name?! ??? LOL!!!  I do not know who originated the name "Melvin" or specifically what it was based on -- but I am sure it was part of the "porn-stache" discussion when Adam grew the mustache and goatee in April 2011. My first record of it is from April 28, 2011 and was used in direct tweets and personal messages which continued for a while. It was posted publicly in July 2011 (maybe earlier) and rapidly became widespread. It took Adam 5 more months to find out about it. I have read the Melvin is a porn star story, but I do not think that is the correct story -- even though it is pretty cool. Aaaannnnddd I actually just googled "melvin porn star". This is precisely why I don't save my internet history.  No obvious results though. I'd think if Melvin were named after a porn star, he'd be easy to find. It's kinda interesting, I wasn't expecting the origin of such a widely used word to be so ~mysterious, especially to those of you who have stanned him since the beginning of time. Looking at Emo's cute hairdo-smiley (some posts above) I immediately thought of our dear chapf! Her last post is almost two months ago, so I'm a little bit worried!  ??? Chapf ...  I know!! I've been thinking about chapf a lot lately and wondering where/how she is!! chapf.... WHERE ARE YOU???  And I also miss the funny posts of our dear burrito! Although I went to a few of the QAL shows and thoroughly enjoyed them, I have to say I am really, really, really tired of the baggage that this collaboration brings. So through with the damning-with-faint-praise hypocrisy. So, so, so over it all. I just wanna be able to drool over that fucking cowlick-cum-pompadour realness without my mellow being harshed. #ThatDoThoough #IwannaBeTheFluffer (Apologies in advance for my rant after not posting for a while.) Eta: where's Queenofthenight's bottle - I need to guzzle!   me too. I refuse to go to a Queen board because of the childishness. No Adam and they would not have the opportunity to see Brian and Roger. They ought to be happy as heck that Brian and Roger found someone they enjoy working with instead of whining. |

Adam Lambert attends the Broadway opening night of 'Sister Act' at the Broadway Theatre on April 20, 2011 in New York City.   It was a substitute for "pornstashe"....which was being used on Twitter and Forums starting on Apr 21, 2011 (or so) when the original Melvin showed up. (Photos above of Melvin at the last sighting on Apr 28, 2011.). He saved it off on April 29, 2011 -- so it is a small window. But by then, it had its name, Melvin. There are still many tweets about the 'pornstache' from the time -- and several media reports about the pornstache and goatee. Melomane @anitawanita @adamlambert some might know it as the 'pornstache' LOL 0 replies 0 retweets 0 favorites 1:44 AM - 22 Apr 2011 I have no idea who named it. I have no idea how it got the name. Blaky and I have been doing some research on twitter and around and she came up with a very Adam fandom option. Blaky found a joke told by Gail at the 'onthemeaningofadamlambert' forum during the discussion of the stache's appearance at the Sister Act premiere:
I don't know who Gail is (does anyone else?) but it is an hilarious joke and soooooo us. The search continues.

I have learned that Melvin was in use in private messages before this joke was posted. So, it seems it was not the inspiration for the name, but maybe a consequence. So, yes, LindaG23, the search continues.  |
