"It takes incredible strength of character to stand up and do your thing, even when the world is kicking dirt in your eye. It takes bravery to be true to yourself despite forces that want you to change. I can look in the mirror and find my own (and society’s) flaws just fine, thank you. You think it's hard to look in the mirror? It's a hell of a lot harder to look out at the world and say, "yes, this is me; take me as I am."When I’m looking for someone to admire, I am drawn to the person who makes me believe that the world can be a better place. When I look for inspiration, I want someone who makes me believe that I can be a better person. Someone who tells me that I'm beautiful, not that I am flawed.
Adam had every right to tell us to look in the mirror. Instead, he held out his hand and invited us to "believe in miracles."
Now that's a vision I will gladly follow." This brought me to tears. NoAngel, you speak with the voice of an angel. And it is the truth. Adam gives me hope the world can change. THAT is a vision that I, too, will gladly follow. This very passage Aloha quoted moved me to tears, NoAngel. In your essay you found a perfect way to juxtapose the situation with Adam vs. Jacob. Adam has proven to be an agent of change, by being open and honest of who he is and what he stands for. Refusing to be left in the corner and fighting against hate and negativity. Not blaming others, but owning his actions. At the same time spreading love and encouragement to the ones in need. He's living his vision, not just talking about it. So brave. He's cracked the door ajar for me to learn more about the world/society and who I want to be "when I grow up".... Among other things he's shown me the way to enjoy the silly & pretty things in life. He's made me feel strong and beautiful. For that I'm forever grateful. (I still need to work on how to take critique and to be as graceful as he is in my responses........ expecting it to be a looooong and winding road...... LOL)P.s. Q3 if you make this concert happen I'll mortgage my house and do whatever it takes to be there.
