On work days, I start my mornings with a hasty coffee and breakfast. Check out the important news (the Adam news.) Then I get into my car, select one of the 6 CDs from my changer (all by Adam), and listen to a few minutes of Adam on what is a way too short commute.

A few weeks ago, I received the GLAM NATION LIVE CD with my DVD. I was really focused on the DVD when I bought it and only thought about the CD as a nice-to-have bonus. But I was excited to have something new from Adam for my commute.

I have owned this CD since March 21, 2011 – and it is the only CD I have played since the day I popped copies into every CD player I own. And I doubt that is going to change anytime soon. (OK I cheat occasionally and sneak in a bit of Acoustic Live!) But I realized I love my Adam live and basically unaltered or cluttered up with production tricks. The studio Adam just doesn’t compare.

I have a dream…well a fan-tasy…OK a plot!

So I have cooked up a little plot. My special dream. Adam, I hope you are reading this today. It is a scathingly brilliant idea. Here goes…..

Go ahead and create your new studio album. Then schedule a private concert. I’ll volunteer to put together the guest list. It will be packed with fans who will not wave their arms in front of the cameras or go “woot woot” during the pause in a ballad.

Book a nice intimate concert venue with great acoustics. Line up a camera crew. I’m sure VH1 would leap at the chance to film a concert of your new album before it was released. And then release three albums at one time. You new CD (studio version), a live DVD, and the live CD. It would be epic.

Now, you might think I am merely interested in getting a private concert for my best friends . But that is not really true. I just want – no I need – another live Adam Lambert CD. I want another CD that captures the energy and power of your live performances.

At my core I am a marketer. Think about it – you can sell the regular CD, the live DVD + CD and the deluxe set of all three. What respectable Adam fan is gonna pass up buying all three for the shelf plus the deluxe set to actually play. (RCA marketing team – you know I am right about this – it would dramatically accelerate the profits on this project.)

And think about the promotional possibilities

I can see it now. $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Call me. I’ll drop everything and just work on setting this all up. And I am sure that I know a few people who would help.

So let me close with my fav slogan – when you dream, dream big!

Looking at the Man in the Mirror

According to American Idol Season 10 contestant Jacob Lusk, had he been voted off this past week, it would not have been due to his singing, but rather because, “everybody in America wasn’t ready to look at themselves in the mirror.” This statement was followed by a performance of MJ’s Man in the Mirror. I’m taking (not much of) a leap here, and assuming that Lusk was referring to either racism or homophobia (or both) affecting the voting process, and am also assuming that Lusk is gay.

Believe me, if there’s an “America has plenty of problems and racism and homophobia are big ones” bandwagon, I’m on it. But I’m not really sure where Lusk is coming from, and I see no evidence of a mass homophobic freakout. A quick google search reveals that only 1% of news links and 17% of blog links about Lusk mention the word “gay.” Compare that to Adam Lambert links during AI8 up to this point of the show—8% of news and 36% of blog links made a “gay” reference. As for racism, AI has been pretty damn white lately, but three people of color have taken the title. When he made his remarks, Lusk had not yet been in the bottom 3, and he seems to be garnering plenty of praise from the judges. So I’m confused—why is he telling America that we suck?

I can’t help but draw a comparison to Adam’s AI performance during Michael Jackson week, which took place shortly after the infamous kissing pics leaked. In the intro segment, Adam talked about the struggle of making it in Hollywood, and put out his hope that “this is the big dream.” He did not tell us that if he was voted off, we were hateful jerks who couldn’t look past our prejudices to see his talent. You think Adam had some ~feelings about America that week? Damn right he did— look no further than his fierce performance of Black or White. Watch him tear up that stage and you are left with no doubt about his feelings about injustice, and about how he feels when you talk to him about “equality.”

But instead of calling out the viewers, Adam calls upon his inner resources to deliver a brave, put-it-all-on-the-line performance. He channels his emotions into the song, and lets us figure out the meaning for ourselves. Instead of making excuses, he fights to earn his stay on the show. He gives us ferocity and intensity and passion, and it is only afterwards, as he fights back tears during the judges’ praise, that you get a sense of how vulnerable it feels and the emotional toll that it takes to put yourself out there for everyone to judge.

The way I see it, Lusk is taking no personal responsibility for his job, which, as an AI contestant, is to get out there every week and MAKE PEOPLE WANT TO VOTE FOR YOU! Figure out who you are, and sell it to us. Make us say WOW! Make us want to vote our fingers off so we get to keep watching you being awesome! Instead, Lusk calls Americans a bunch of bigots, essentially predicting his failure on the show and preemptively putting the blame squarely on us. But, dude, what if you just don’t light my fire?

So, no hate, Jacob, and I wish you the best. However, the way I see it, we all have two options—look for all the ways that the world makes it hard for us to get what we want, or—put the mirror down and go after what we want, even when the going gets tough.

It takes incredible strength of character to stand up and do your thing, even when the world is kicking dirt in your eye. It takes bravery to be true to yourself despite forces that want you to change. I can look in the mirror and find my own (and society’s) flaws just fine, thank you. You think it's hard to look in the mirror? It's a hell of a lot harder to look out at the world and say, "yes, this is me; take me as I am."

When I’m looking for someone to admire, I am drawn to the person who makes me believe that the world can be a better place. When I look for inspiration, I want someone who makes me believe that I can be a better person. Someone who tells me that I'm beautiful, not that I am flawed.

Adam had every right to tell us to look in the mirror. Instead, he held out his hand and invited us to "believe in miracles."

Now that's a vision I will gladly follow.

Day 11 of the musical countdown to 1 million.

1988 --- A decade filled with INXS come to a close. Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine were hired to write the soundtrack. Cause it was a time to party at the beach!

Remember when Whitney was “So Emotional” and George Harrison was thinking about you or at least “Got My Mind Set On You” cause “The Way You Make Me Feel” revealed the I “Need You Tonight”? There was a Def Leppard and some Beach Boys hanging round. And Terence Trent D'Arby was floating by on a raft. (Who invited Debbie Gibson – isn’t she underage?) Rick Ashley was seen hanging with Phil Collins at The Escape Club. And the morning paper had an Exposé about George Michael and Michael Jackson!! Oh it “Could’ve Been” because “Seasons Change” and they both lacked a “Father Figure” but I don’t care.

I’m “Never Gonna Give You Up” for the “Man in the Mirror”. My life is changing and it’s time for me to go. “Gotta Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” and cross the Billy Ocean to find out where “Broken Dreams Go”. If I had a “Wishing Well”, I would wish for “Anything For You” as long as we could be “Together Forever”. Yes, I know you think I dance to a “Foolish Beat” but really I am “Dirty Diana”. Yes I am. “The Flame” may be a Cheap Trick or a sign our love is still burning, so we can “Hold On To The Nights”, make our Marx and “Roll With It”. “Sweet Child Of Mine”, I have my Guns N' Roses so “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” because, even though “Love Bites”, “Red Red Wine” make everything better. Our “Groovy Kind Of Love” will take us to “Kokomo” in the “Wild Wild West”. No it is not “Bad Medicine” designed to cure UB40, cause “Baby, I Love Your Way” even though I want to “Look Away" to Chicago, Will to Power and avoid the Poison on the thorn – cause we all know "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".

And the biggest mysteries of the year are did Steve Winwood forecast the invention of the “Rick Roll”? And why  was stolen by Bobby McFerrin.
