He also said in a previous interview that Freddie couldn't do as many shows a week either. Dr May speaks his mind, that's for sure!

Can someone post what Brian actually said? This seems like an odd thing for him to have said and it does not match history.

Until Freddie started to slow down (1984) because of declining health, they toured at a slightly more intense level than the Q+AL Tour. These are 2-1/2 hour concerts, Freddie played piano on most of the songs (no Spike) and they were in buses -- no private jets.

I picked two similar tours and they are about the same. In 1978 - 1980 the tours got more intense.

Yeah I'm not certain where Brian said that either...looking objectively.

Both shows are 2 1/2 hours. Freddie was on stage for pretty much the entire show except Brian's guitar solo...sometimes Roger had a little drum thing to but Freddie was certainly on stage longer than Adam...AND in the mid - late 70s there were times where the band would do 2 shows in one day!

I get worried whenever I see Brian, Freddie, new technology and 3D in the same sentence. And I am pretty sure that even if Brian gets lost in one of his "projects" cooler heads will prevail!

It'll definitely cause a few stomachs to turn....but I have no problem with what Brian said though. The titling gives me cringes as it leads you to believe that Brian is saying Adam is a better singer. When in fact it says Adam can easily match Freddie's higher range. It was all about being able to perform the songs in the proper key. . Well duh....Adam is a tenor, Freddie is a baritone (or bari-tenor). Freddie's lower range is stronger than Adam's. Adam can go higher than Freddie. Higher doesn't mean better. *shrug* Nothing to see here

And yes Adam obviously takes care of his voice better than Freddie which is why Adam's voice holds up much better during tours. MUCH different time and lifestyle tbh.

Freddie drank a lot of vodka before and while he performed -- and he smoked cigarettes. Based on what he and Brian and other people who were close to Freddie have said in interviews, drinking helped Freddie got over his shyness and stage fright. But drinking and smoking and singing with abandon is not a great combination.

I recall seeing him with a tumbler of vodka on stage in some early concerts (1974 - 1975). Not a shot or two but more like 8 oz of vodka. And I know it was vodka because I asked on more than one occasion.

I often saw Freddie preparing to go on stage. Swigging down a few vodkas, he’d warm up his voice with a run of vocal exercises. His valet would have his stage clothes laid out for him. After one last puff on a cigarette, he would rush through his door to the stage to the cheers of Queen’s adoring fans. He was like a hurricane.

‘When I’m on stage, I become very different,’ he said. ‘There are no half measures. You have to be resilient to be a rock star, you can’t falter once.’

Adam is the polar opposite, he takes care of his voice most of the time. [There are a few solo concerts that I saw where this was not the case and he was not completely straight on stage. But not excessive like Freddie. But Freddie "lived large" -- more than most of us can even imagine.]

Not doubting you

Just hard to picture. Then again, Brian has always been....shall we say...ebullient when describing current projects? He's a very good salesman. I'm not saying he doesn't believe what he says but he is one who doesn't shy away from big statements shall we say :D

I get that. Tim definitely does not because he was in Smile and him leaving Smile is what broke up the band. Doug I would also agree. He played like 1-2 gigs and was more of a fill in...or truthfully told it ended up being more of an audition. Barry and Mike...I could see either way. BUT yeah overall if I hear Queen - I don't think of any of them outside Freddie/Brian/Roger/John. Not even Spike. Spike (and Fred Mandel & Morgan Fisher) were touring keyboardists. Neil Murray, Danny Miranda, Neil Fairclough, Pino Palladino were touring bassists. Rufus is a touring percussionist.

They did two full back-to-back concerts at the Hammersmith in 1973.

They did two shows in NYC May 10, 1974 (I was there

That was 4 shows in 3 days. They were "only" 15-16 song shows but that was 29 songs sung by Freddie on the 10th. (Brian was also sick by then. I do not know how he got through that day.)

Then when the did the Sheer Heart Attack Tour reached sheer insanity. And that was 2 + hour concert with Freddie singing everything and playing piano. And doing all the song intros.

The toured UK and Europe then flew to the US....

<they kicked off the US tour with 8 concerts in 7 days and NO DAYS off!! >

Yes, I was insane before Adam was born. But it was hard for a fan to do these concerts and I did not have to perform, or lug equipment, or deal with any other than my missed college classes!

The Queen fans who are trashing Brian and Roger, and actually profess to be true Queen fans? They are not doing Freddie any favors. They need to realize you insult Adam you insult Freddie. I think it is time as fans, just take the good from the bad. It is just ignorance. Queen have had 11 lead singers since Freddie. Freddie was NOT Queen, he was simply a very important subset of Queen. But if you had a 5 billion dollard Ferrari just catching dust in the garage, and someone came along who equaled the horse power of its predecessor, would you not get a new driver? Or would you go buy a mini instead haha? Adams simply driving the ferrari, he doesen't own it.
