Hello everyone! I want to share my latest "endeavor" which I think can help spend a few extra calories and be uber enjoyable In the last few days I've been spending waaaay too much time watching NYE YTs...just sitting there with a silly smile staring at my TV... I even started to feel achy... so, I decided to get up and dance. I am doing this now with the "live performance" nominations... I am getting a couple of hours of movement and it feels great! I highly recommend trying if your circumstances allow of course! Otherwise, I did manage to gain about 4 pounds over the holidays but succeeded to loose 2 already. SO a bit more and I can go back to maintaining again... csimms4 - 65 lbs by Labor day! WOW! that's so aggressive! Good luck! Wishing everyone a very healthy 2015!

Wednesday - Check In Day - How do you track your food?Yay! We have a group. So excited you are all here. I've kept my food Week food log.docx (10.86 KB) journal all week and I'm down 2 pounds which I'm happy with so far. So going with this week's theme - food tracking, I know some of you have already posted, I'm just making it official if you want to post some more. I haven't been able to get into the electronic versions and doing portions, it's not me, yet. I may really have to try harder 'cause I know those of you (I'm looking at you rihannsu) who use it have had excellent results. But for now just keeping it up makes me think too hard so I'm doing the paper version. I've added my paper as a document you can download up above if anyone wants to go low tech. (Note about themes - When I'm feeling frisky at the beginning of the year I'll try to come up with something but feel free to post about anything you want and anytime of the week. Themes are just to start conversations if anyone is having trouble thinking about something to say)

Happy to say that I'm down another pound this week for a total of 8 lbs. I gradually gained 10 lbs when I stopped going to WW because I stopped tracking. For me the electronic tracking is much better, because most of the food values are available and it's neat and easy. So I'm on the road again and would like to lose 20 lbs this year!!!

Good morning! Jan and Feb are my health care months. You know, getting all my annual check-ups done and getting all my numbers. My goal this year is to slowly take off some weight while not stressing over the scale. I had an interesting conversation with my Dr. yesterday. He knows I swim a lot and he also knows that afterwards I meet friends for lunch. It's a healthy lunch but I eat more then if I had packed some food from home. So, anyways, he says, "Exercise will not make you lose weight, it will only make you hungry." What?? Of course, he wasn't against exercising for all the other reasons it's necessary but as an aid to losing weight, not really that great. And, as I was thinking about what he was saying, I realized I'm usually ravenous once I get out of the pool -- I really am hungry. And, because I have just exercised, I do give myself permission to eat more then I should. So, in any case, his advice to me was to eat a protein meal once I leave the pool and to manage all foods that convert to sugar (basically carbs). So, to simplify, cut back on the white for awhile.
As far as tracking, I've used spreadsheets and a few of the various tracking programs on-line. Now, I do something even easier. I have a blank notebook on my coffee table where I jot down thoughts and stuff that I want to remember. Because I usually eat at the coffee table, I've started using this notebook to write down what I've eaten. My eating habits are usually pretty ordinary so by now I know the carb and calorie count of most of the food. The tracking becomes important when I find myself "grazing". By writing it down, I hold myself accountable for the handfuls of this and that. It does help in that regard.
So, for now, I'm at the starting off point -- no tracked loss to report at this time but we'll see next Wednesday. Have a good week and be kind to yourself!

Yes, tracking works no matter what method you use because it keeps you aware. Jablea thinking too hard may be what you need. When you are actively thinking about your intake you make better decisions so whatever method keeps your awareness up and causes you to do a double take so to speak whenever you eat is going to help.
My biggest advice though is that some type of activity tracker is an essential part of the equation because just knowing what you are eating isn't much use if you don't know how much you are burning. Eating drastically below your caloric needs can be just as detrimental as eating too much because it messes with your metabolism as the body tries to compensate for a decrease in resources. Your body doesn't care about weight loss, it cares about survival and will ration its resources in such a way as to maximize survival. That may not be conducive to weight loss.
My check in is that I am about back to where I was the day before New Years so I've at least taken off the New Year's binge. LOL

I am tracking with Lose It. I have used this before and it works for me. No results to report yet as I just started tracking again on Monday. I am going to make Wednesday mornings my weight in. I am trying hard to not step on the scale before next Wednesday morning.
I also have a fitbit that I am tracking steps with. Got outside for a little bit of walking on Monday but didn't get out yesterday. We are in the middle of a deep cold snap here in Toronto - so hoping it warms up by the end of the week.
Coming back to the office on Monday all of my co workers had brought in all the leftover chocolate and goodies they didn't want in their homes anymore. I am happy to say I have stayed away from the treat table and have no intention of going near it !
