Going to check in and try to play a bit of catch-up. My main resolution is to return to walking everyday for a minimum of 45 minutes. My walking partner moved so have been idle for a while. Doesn't matter how fast or how far I go, just that I get up and move everyday for 45 minutes. Today I am heading out to a bird sanctuary with friends for a walk/hike that will take probably 2 hours. Last week we did a 3 mile beach hike. Anyway, hoping that getting out everyday (rain or shine) will help support better food choices and make other day hikes go easier. Along the way, if I loose a few pounds, that would be a bonus.
Will be celebrating a milestone birthday this month and staying active is important.

I have been on the wieght loss journey since October and I have managed to lose about 13 pounds so far. I need to lose another 10-15 pounds to be at a healthy weight for my height, build and age. My motivation began when I started cleaning out my closets and saw all my beautiful clothes that I could not wear anymore...............from my business clothes to my leisure and party clothes all waiting to be worn again. Anyway, I am determined to get rid of my fat clothes and rediscover many favourite outfits. First, I discussed with my doctor my desire to lose the extra baggage and he advised me to do it slowly .5 - 1 lbs per week. What has worked so far for me is to record my daily in-take of food and exercise. Also, I am already back in some of my favourite clothes and that keeps me motivated. For 2015 I want to achieve my ideal weight and keep it off permanently. I'll be here Wednesday's to check-in. If you are tracking food check out myfitnesspal They have a huge database of already input items and you can add things if you need to. The free version is all you really need and the mobile app has a barcode scanner option for input. I've been using it since 2012 and it works great. It also links up with other things like the fitbit, various exercise apps, as well as wifi scales and other equipment. The one firm commitment I made when I started loosing weight was to record everything and that more than anything else has made a huge difference for me. TY Rihannsu.....I will check out myfitnesspal. Personally, I have found that a good breakfast, which for me includes eggs, and lots of fresh vegetables is really important. I occasionally even add a strip of bacon. By starting my day this way I am less likely to overindulge. I'm also lucky in that I don't care much for sweets my vices mostly include salty snacks which I have managed to cut out. My background is Hungarian and I still cook all the favourite dishes because of my mother who is 95 and DH, luckily neither of them have any weight or health issues. What I have done though is to really cut down on the fat, rich cuts of meat and sour cream which are a big part of our cuisine. I make lots of hearty soups which we all enjoy very much. csimms4 wishing you good luck on your journey.......remember I am nearby if you need any support.

I'm here. I almost forgot about Wednesdays. I did not start my diet until Monday. However, I stepped on the scale and in two days I lost 9 ounces. Not much to write about but I have started and will hopefully continue for as long as it takes. Saw my heart doctor yesterday and it is time for my stress test so I hope to take off a few pounds before that appointment. So far everything going well. See you next Wednesday.

I'll be here too again this year. Been putting weight back on since a trip to Europe in September, but especially in the last few weeks. Love the stollen, love the chocolate! So starting Monday, back to losing rather than gaining! Great to see the familiar faces, and hopefully some new ones too! Going to give this a try. I need to maintain - so easy to get lazy and I do not enjoy exercise. I have to make myself get off my behind and get out. We were in Spain for three weeks last fall - ate such good food, and lots of it. But for me, I come home better off because I walk all day on our trips - ten miles is normal and it's not exercise because there is so much to see while we do it (plus my husband does not just stroll along ). I think my best weight loss plan would be to travel at least half the year. Wonder if I could swing that?

I think my best weight loss plan would be to travel at least half the year. Wonder if I could swing that? That would be a great way to lose the weight, LOL! Even though we did walk a fair bit on our trip too, eating all the goodies got me into a bad habit again, and my vice is definitely the sweet stuff. So over the holidays I decided to indulge before getting back on track in January. So, checking in today, but am not weighing myself until next week. Taking this week to get back on track, cut back on the snacking, watch my portions, and hopefully the weather will co-operate so that I can walk Mon/Wed/Fri and possibly one of the weekend days. That worked for me to lose the initial 50 lbs. of the goal of 60. So my goal is to get back down to the 50 lbs. level and then finally get those last 10 lbs. off too. Great to see several familiar faces and some new ones too, and some of you are already doing great! And lovely to see our cheerleader Chapf as well!

I am tracking with Lose It. I have used this before and it works for me. No results to report yet as I just started tracking again on Monday. I am going to make Wednesday mornings my weight in. I am trying hard to not step on the scale before next Wednesday morning. I also have a fitbit that I am tracking steps with. Got outside for a little bit of walking on Monday but didn't get out yesterday. We are in the middle of a deep cold snap here in Toronto - so hoping it warms up by the end of the week. Coming back to the office on Monday all of my co workers had brought in all the leftover chocolate and goodies they didn't want in their homes anymore. I am happy to say I have stayed away from the treat table and have no intention of going near it ! Last year I've been using Lose It as well - I found it very convenient and helpful! I no longer use any tracker as I've learned to add my approx. calorie intake in my mind. As far as helpful tricks go: in addition to dancing to Adam's YTs - and we are going to have plenty of new ones in the coming weeks (YAY!)- I also started chewing gum every time I get a craving. By the time I am finished with a piece I usually forget about the craving. Helps with the snacking problem... I decided to try and lose 5 lbs... we'll see...

While my weight loss is an ongoing goal (at least 10 lbs more) this year I am also focusing on trying to improve my financial situation. To that end I checked out a link sent to me by Lending Club for a budgeting software & methodology. The problems I have had in the past with budgeting stem from the fact that my income is constantly variable and the few times I have tried budgeting programs like budgeting within Quicken etc. I have not been able to really get it to work the way I need. To be fair most of them I didn't get very far in to because I couldn't figure out how to get it really set up an going giving the uncertain nature of my income. YNAB, or You Need a Budget, is a piece of software but it is also a methodology for budgeting that really looks like it will work for me. I found a lot of help just scanning through there online help articles and videos even before actually paying for the software. You can download it as a free trial as well to decide if you are interested. They have a free app for your smartphone as well and it will sync using dropbox. Really easy to set up and so far I am liking it enough that I went ahead and paid for it as a way of committing myself to using it for the entire year. They gave me a link to share that is a coupon. Not sure what the discount is but figured I'd post it here just in case anyone is interested in checking it out. ynab.refr.cc/9S2N82QTheir website is www.youneedabudget.com/
