Wednesday - Check In DayI'm up 1 this week, for some reason it was a terrible week for me. No particular reason, a few bad decisions. I was happy with the +1. yeah that, lol. I'm not consistent but I'm going to try and get back into daily posting like I did last week with my hip exercises. I read somewhere that those who daily post about their weight loss lose and extra 1/2 pound a week. Clutching straws and all that. rihannsu, I'm hoping this week that you are interested in posting about your budget. You always have good ideas. So how did everyone do this week?

I was very, very good this week. I lost 2 pounds. I am happy with that. If I can lose 2 pounds a week, I am ecstatic. Exercised every day also. I hope everyone had a good week.

Holding steady this week. I think that I was just not activate enough. It has been really cold here and I just felt like hibernating. I also started watching a number of different series on Netflix........and I'd like to recommend a few: The Last Tango in Halifax, Broadchurch, and The Fall are all really captivating.
Next week I plan to resume exercising regularly!

Down almost a half pound this week.
Budget: Not a lot of progress to report yet but the similarities to weight loss issues continue to strike me. Budgeting and dieting are can both be very stressful and cause similar psychological problems I think. In both cases what works best is not short term solutions which is what most typical diets are but overall changes in behavior.
One of the things I am appreciating about the YNAB approach and the way that all their material is focused is the emphasis on changing your behavior with money long term. They prioritize forward progress over specific milestones. They offer different approaches to using the budget and encourage you to set your own priorities in a way that will keep you heading in the right direction. For some that might be pay off debt first, but for others it might be build your buffer/emergency funds first. The materials are very well written and avoid a lot of the judgmental language around getting to where you are. They focus on starting where you are today without beating yourself up over how you got here.
If you want to look back there are certainly things you can learn about your spending habits but the most important focus is on RIGHT NOW. I really like the approach. One of the analogies is that too much focus on looking back at past financial history is a lot like driving while looking in the rear view mirror. When you are driving your primary focus needs to be right in front of you. Yes you glance in the rear view, to the sides and even try to look way ahead sometimes but the majority of your focus is directly in front and if you sacrifice that for looking off in the rear view too much you will crash.
When setting up Quicken or other software I have always seen recommendations to enter as much transaction history as possible or to set up automatic importing. Reconciliation of accounts is also usually tied to when you get statements. YNAB on the other hand discourages importing because at least in the beginning they want you to really focus on what is being entered. You set it up using whatever your starting balances are in your accounts TODAY and you continue forward. Reconciliation can be done whenever, and as often as you like. With pretty much everything being online now this means that, if you want to, you can pull up your accounts online and compare to YNAB and reconcile every day if that helps you.
They also recommend making categories for your obsessions/indulgences/weaknesses. In other words we all know that we are going to spend money on Adam. So I have a category in my budget titled Adam Lambert. If you have a weakness for shoe shopping or Starbuck's or whatever, you make a category for it. For one thing it will make it easier to see exactly how extensive that weakness is and also by having to cover it in the budget you become aware of what it is doing to your finances.
This is pretty much the same approach I have used successfully with food and recording in myfitnesspal. I never really told myself I couldn't have something. If I wanted candy I'd eat it. But by recording it and trying to keep my numbers in balance I had to make adjustments. It really made me take a second to consider if I wanted it bad enough to pay for it so to speak.
With budgeting it ends up being, do I want it bad enough to pay for it, literally. I encourage anyone to check out YNAB's website even if you are perfectly happy with whatever system you are using. All the educational materials and support articles are available for free. You can read the forums and even sign up without purchasing anything. They have live webinar classes you can do and they give away at least one copy of software during every class. They have really great suggestions on creative ways to set up categories which can be used even if you aren't using their software. I just find they are an awesome resource way beyond the value of the software itself.
I will be adding to my Adam category even if it is only a few cents at a time. Hopefully I will be able to save up enough to attend shows without having to borrow from my daughter again. LOL

Hi All! I'm down a pound this week, but it was a struggle with the party at mayumi's. Am now down 10 lbs and the Myfitnesspal has been a major component for that. Concerts have made it difficult to get my behind out of the chair and away from the computer, so I'm still struggling with exercise.

I could have sworn I posted this morning - but I don't see it here. That's what happens when you wake up - weigh in right away and come to post on the board. I was down 1.2 lbs. I am happy for the loss - but it's a little off track of my 2lbs a week that I want to lose. I was on a business trip Monday and Tuesday though - so I am happy that I had a loss.
I added exercise this week - but just starting slowly.

No change for me this week, weighing the same as last week, but still battling the chocolate urge and not winning very often, although I'm definitely cutting back quite a bit. Walking is going well, for once no aches and pains interfering too much. And trying to do some shoulder/arm exercises as I have a bit of a frozen shoulder situation. Curling twice a week until mid March, although only one of the times is very active. Talking about financials, finished my annual business bookkeeping, so that's a huge job of my plate, so have a little more time to keep up with all the Adam goodies!
Some of you are doing really great! Congratulations!

Sunday Treat - Blueberries in Honey
I know blueberries are really good for me but eating them has never really given me any pleasure until... I did a trusty google search and came up with blueberries in honey. Hey, it's not cane sugar so I'm going with it. Yeah, I really do like it and blueberries seem to last a long time, which means I can forget about them for a couple of days after buying them and they are still good. So drizzle some honey on your blueberries and snack away.

Tuesday - Hip Exercise #4 - Side Lying, Knock-Kneed, Lower Leg Raises
Yeah, does that make sense? What did we call the last one? The Clam I think. Well this one is in the same position so you can alternate back and forth.
Lay on your side knees together and legs slightly to medium bent. Keeping the knees together, raise your upper foot and leg into the air. Repeat 10 times.
I'm not sure which gluteus muscle it reaches, probably the medius which is good because it's the one that's difficult to target but which has a big impact on how everything works together.

Wednesday - Check in Day
Hello Shapers. Whooee, I've been working my legs. Climbing stairs. Had a friend in the hospital for surgery the other week and having seen on the net local peeps who run bank stairs (the bank even hosts a competition) so I decided that since in my neck of the woods there aren't a lot of tall buildings so work with what you find. So about four sets of six flights and Imma worn out. But going to keep trying.
