Just read the last 2 pages and caught up with the discussion.
I never associate personal integrity or how much I value somebody with money.
That part of the discussion did not even occur to me, tbh.
Why would I appreciate or think of Adam differently in 2013 with 2.6 mil, vs. Adam next year with 10+ mil? Or the lonely musical theater kid with no money, had I known him then, for that matter?
Money, imo is a reflection of how much you and your work seem to be appreciated.
And as such, the fact that Adam had a much harder start after idol than quite a few people assumed he would have, is a reflection of the fact that American radio and UK radio did not appreciate his music, that RCA (post Berry Weiss) did not appreciate him as an artist, etc.
But what money he did make (mostly via touring and concerts) is a reflection of the fact that there were fans that did appreciate what he did, and were willing to show up in large numbers, independent of the success of the recordings.
Right now, Adam's elevated numbers are first of all a reflection of the fact that BM and RT valued his talent and personality and supported him, but secondly, a reflection of the fact that fans showed up for the new pairing. I am convinced that Adam's earnings per concert were tied to the extent the arenas were selling out. He would have made much less per concert, if it were sold only at a 60 % level, and the tour would not have been expanded like this either.
As such, his present earnings are again, a reflection of how much his work is appreciated and people are willing to put money down for that. It's that simple.
Nobody was suggesting, or certainly, I was not suggesting, that any of this has anything to do with how I think about Adam. I cared about him from the day of my very first Upright Cabaret video onwards, and that was based on what I heard and saw, the vocal skills, the interpretive skills, the sense of humor, the interaction with the audience. Soon after, getting to know more about what he stood for, added to that. None of it was a reflection about money, but it sure meant that I was interested to do what I could to make him more successful. Financially too, because as Adam says, that creates opportunity.
Hope that makes it a bit clearer and sorry if that caused confusion earlier.
