That's what I thought they would probably do. I'm online and I didn't know about it, so I'm sure lots of viewers were caught by surprise. However, I don't see much outrage happening, so I guess most people are okay with it. I hope something good happens for Daniel. That kid made me smile!

I live on the West Coast. I record the show on a channel from Detroit and watch it later in the evening. Did anyone watch the show at 8:00pm PST last night? The twitter save had happened hours before -- I want to know what they told the west coast audience during the twitter save part of the show. Since Daniel is from Oregon and Rayvon is from Virgina, that seemed unfair to me. Obviously, Rayvon sang much better, but to spring the surprise twitter save like that at the beginning of the show when a lot of viewers in other time zones were not watching seemed extremely manipulative. I also live on the West Coast, but watched the show live on the Detroit station. Idol did announce to fans that follow the show online, that they would be live streaming, allowing very passionate followers outside of the EST zone to participate in the twitter vote. So many West Coast voters were able to vote. Was Daniel still at a disadvantage? OFC, but this twitter vote now makes every week like a final two vote, and I think that played a bigger part in his leaving last night. A final two vote allows people to vote against a contestant. IMO a whole lot of votes for Rayvon were votes against Daniel, rather than for Rayvon.

I was very annoyed with the twitter save thing, too! It negates the actual vote. Makes me think they were trying to save the lowest vote contestant. I was happy to see those two in the bottom (Qassim belongs there too).

The lack of outrage can probably be attributed to the fact that less than 9 million people now watch this show and the theory that more people wanted to see him leave than wanted to see him stay.

As Stardust says, it negates the actual vote. I'm always left wondering who really was at the bottom and by how much.

Daniel, I have heard, has a very organized fanbase at home, so i am sure they knew about the twitter save. It was advertised on their Idol's twitter account and their website. Plus, they showed the 2 performances live on the website. They streamed it, so that was nice! One thing I liked was that it was only vote per account, so no spamming by tweens. i am also on the west coast too & was mad when i first heard about the twitter save, but the live stream worked, IMO. You didn't have to be watching the show to vote. Just had to monitor the American idol twitter account.
