A nice article. Except this one part: "Yet if Lambert has not quite become the superstar many predicted, it may also be because his contrived brand of glam-inflected pop is not individual or characterful enough to really warrant world domination" ... oh well. It wouldn't be Neil McCormick if there wasn't a pot shot taken somewhere. LOL I am absolutely THRILLED that Neil wrote such a positive article with little or no sneer to it. I take it that he was impressed which is hard to do with someone who grew up Bono adjacent. Neil doesn't fall for hype with no substance and is was not really all that impressed with the 2012 show that he saw, although I think he was more critical of Bri and Rog than of Adam. This is a huge improvement over his take on the last outing I think. www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/live-music-reviews/9395281/Queen-and-Adam-Lambert-Hammersmith-Apollo-review.htmlOf the many comments I just read at the link, all but one defended Queen and Adam and most were extremely critical of Mr. McCormick.

Maybe painful, but just the plain truth - IMHO WHAT? REALLY? From Webster: CHARACTERFUL
: having interesting or unusual qualities : having character Full Definition: 1: markedly expressive of character <a characterful face> 2: marked by character <a characterful decision> Adam's music is not "CHARACTERFUL"? It is just the OPPOSITE! -EVERY song (with the exception of the idiotic singles) is FULL of CHARACTER! Name one NOT characterful (aside from the singles - those are most definitely "not characterful" and perhaps those are the only ones the author heard )! INDIVIDUAL
: of, relating to, or existing as just one member or part of a larger group : having a special and unusual quality that is easily seen : intended or designed for one person HOW is this applicable? the variety of music on his records is what bothers the public? if nothing else - that quality IS "individual"... In other words - HELP! konata - I haven't seen you posting in a while! WELCOME BACK! Ok, I will be advocatus diaboli here - what if our love and respect for Adam and his capabilities and voice distort our reception of his music?

I see nothing really wrong about that comment. Whatever the problem is with his music not hitting the pulse of the mainstream needs to be identified if he is going to continue to go that route. Nothing wrong with a niche market, but world domination requires world acceptance. Sometimes the truth is right in front of us, we just don't like to see it. :-/ Ahhhh, but remember, Adam has yet to have one of HIS songs released as a single (I don't count that last minute attempt to release Trespassing after the album had died) if Shady had been a single would they be saying "contrived Pop?" Or Runnin? Or even Trespassing earlier on? RCA did release contrived Pop because they were afraid to let Adam be Adam. They wanted him to be Dr Puke or Bruno! That's why my #1 hope for era 3 is that his label "gets" him & releases a single that is 100% Adam and let the chips fall where they may! ETA: Having those 2 songs released as his singles, with the album full of his own songs, had to be so damn frustrating at the time!

Thanks for all your hard work on the playlist poll Q3! I noticed the Leno Sleepwalker was not there. Was it because it's not on youtube, just Vimeo and the playlist is youtube only? It was nominated but the video wasn't posted. Here it is; vimeo.com/103960354

Q3, great categories! I especially like the "rare song" one! very clever. I noticed WLL from Fantasy Springs 1 is missing although I remember two nominations for it. Can it be added in please? thanks. The Telegraph article is one of the best imo: Informative, intelligent and insightful. So rare to see lately. Thank you pi and queenofthenight for bringing various images!
Yeah, sort of seems odd to read something that isn't copied and pasted from other stuff.

I haven't read the article yet, but I'm glad that this person, Neil, was personally interviewing him. Given the right questions Neil and the reader will find the real Adam Lambert is. Adam is a very smart personality and very smart musician. He can talk about all kind of music intelligently. Adam is also very humble, generous, loyal and down to earth person. Very funny and never take things seriously. Brian has mentioned several times that Adam and Freddie are similar in some way, and that to include their personality and their persons on stage. Briand and Roger has worked with both Freddie and Adam and its not a wonder that they can find this out easily and I bet it's kind of strange in some way for them that Freddie and Adam decades apart in age, never met one and another but they have a lot of similarity in them, professionally and personally. {I got goosebumps, where's that picture of Freddie handing over the stick to the throne to Adam}

I have always found Adam's own songs infinitely more smart, interesting, and unique than the pop tunes RCA insisted on releasing as singles.

nica575, Adam has got all of these qualities, he's got more than enough character and he's an individualist for sure. I am one of Adam's greatest fans - but not necessarily of his music. What makes his music special is he as an artist and a singer, but I don't think that his music will stand the test of time and become classics. I would buy a CD of him singing the phonebook, because he is such a gifted singer. But - and this is just my opinion - most of the songs on FYE and Trespassing don't stand out for themselves. They are only good because Adam sings them. Maybe that's because Pop is not my favourite kind of music, I'm more into Progressive Rock. A lot of the songs are too easy to digest. Take "Naked Love" - which is a wonderful, little, funny make-you-feel-good kind of song, but there's no depth to it. I know Pop doesn't have to be deep - but that's what's lacking for me in a lot of these songs. I think this is a point where I have to disagree with a lot of people here on this board. The whole article where this passage is taken from, is more than positive, actually there is a lot of praising and flailing going an - and there is only that one sentence taken out where there is a criticism of Adam. And for me this criticism is true. Don't get me wrong there are several songs which I really love (Underneath, Nirvana, Runnin...), but overall I wish for him to do a different kind of music. And I wished from the bottom of my heart that some composers or producers could channel Adam's live singing magic onto a CD, but that hasn't happened. But that's just my silly little dream!
