Adam Lambert Signs New Record Deal, Glamberts Rejoice
Hurrah! The American Idol star will release new material in April...
10:49, Friday, 16 January 2015 by Joanne Dorken
Adam Lambert has announced that he's signed a new record deal.
The star - who is currently on tour with legendary rockers Queen - will release his third studio LP later this year after finalising a new contract with Warner Bros Music.
Lambert has worked with the likes of Max Martin and Shellback on the new project, with 32-year old telling Billboard: "I was working on demos and scheduled a meeting with them.
"They're two of my favourite producers and at the very top of their game.
"I love everything they do, and was really excited to sit back down with them after having worked on For Your Entertainment."
Lambert continued: "It was great to reminisce and laugh. It was an easy, humble, casual vibe, and when you're in the studio, that's what you want.
"I played them a song and we got very excited. They heard my personal growth, and lyrically, the things that I was trying to say."
He added: "Long story short, they offered me a deal to be executive producers of this album, and that felt like a big moment."
Adam's new single is due for release in April, following his debut as a guest judge on American Idol.

Adam Lambert says that fans will be 'surprised' by his new music
Adam Lambert if having a hell of a year - and it's barely begun.
He came out of nowhere to dazzle us on New Year's Eve as the frontman for Queen and he's currently blowing the roof off stadiums around the UK with the legendary band on their world tour.
And now he has announced a brand new solo album as part of his new record deal with Warner Music, with a brand new single out in April.
"I think people are going to be really surprised," he says.
"The album feels like a new era for me - emotionally, lyrically, sonically. It feels fresh."
Lambert is working with legendary Swedish hit-makers Max Martin and Shelback who have crafter huge global hits for the likes of Pink, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera.
The 33-year-old American says he is increasingly influenced by what is happening on the UK and European music scene.
"Being on the road with a British rock band, and being in London a lot this year... I think that has affected my sound and where we are headed with it," Lambert told Billboard.
"Europe is very ahead of the curve... and I was definitely influenced by that."

After coming to fame as the runner-up on music reality show American Idol, Lambert also pays tribute to how much he has learned while collaborating and touring with Queen.
"Being on stage with Queen and remembering the most important things about music and performance are the most timeless things.
"It transcends trend and popularity contests.
"It is more about truth, emotion, honesty and the connection with the audience, the music and the moment."
Despite his apparent larger-than-life persona, the colourful singer admits that working with the legendary band has also boosted his self-confidence.

Adam Lambert To Launch New Glitter Rocket This Summer
by snicks | January 16, 2015
FINALLY! Intergalactic Sonic Boom Adam Lambert has announced his new record label (Warner Bros.) and his new album, which will be released “early summer.” As expected, he’s working again with Swedish mega-producer Max Martin, but unlike Adam’s debut album, Martin will have a hand in the entire production, as well as producer Shellback, who may or may not be a giant sea tortoise, I’m not sure.
Adam talks to Billboard about the project. Here are some choice quotes:
What was important to you in a new deal?
Adam Lambert: Finding a home that was the right fit. As you know, leaving RCA was really due to creative differences. They are great people over there. I have a really nice relationship, but it didn’t feel like we wanted the same things with this next chapter, and so I chose to part ways with them.
How did you, Max and Shellback reconnect?
Lambert: I was working on demos and scheduled a meeting with them. They’re two of my favorite producers and at the very top of their game. I love everything they do, and was really excited to sit back down with them after having worked on For Your Entertainment. It was great to reminisce and laugh. It was an easy, humble, casual vibe, and when you’re in the studio, that’s what you want. I played them a song and we got very excited. They heard my personal growth, and lyrically, the things that I was trying to say. Long story short, they offered me a deal to be executive producers of this album, and that felt like a big moment.
It’s been six years since America first saw you on Idol, what have you learned about the music business in that time?
Lambert: When you come into this quickly with the trajectory out of American Idol, it’s really easy to see the business like a fan would: you don’t see the ins and outs of it. And you learn once you are in it. With Trespassing, I learned a lot about radio. I learned a lot about my fans through the years — the big picture of it and how you have to listen to them. Being on stage with Queen and remembering the most important things about music and performance are the most timeless things: it transcends trend and popularity contests. It is more about truth, emotion, honesty and the connection with the audience, the music and the moment. [The Queen tour] has been good for me on a confidence level. It’s made me feel like I’m on the right path, and humbled at the same time. I am stepping into a position that used to be occupied by the greatest frontman of all time. Trying to live to that legacy has been challenging and rewarding.
There’s lots more at the link, including that the first single will be out in April. So … let the countdown begin, and we’ll ride this glitter rocket together!

For Your Entertainment: Adam Lambert Guest-Judges on 'Idol'
Lyndsey Parker
It was Throwback Thursday on American Idol this week, when the GREATEST CONTESTANT EVER TO COMPETE ON THE SHOW, from THE BEST SEASON EVER, returned and made history as the first alum to ever serve as a guest judge.
Sorry for going crazy with the capslock there, but I’m talking about the Glamerican Idol himself, Mr. Adam Lambert — the man with better hair than Keith Urban, zingier one-liners than Harry Connick Jr., and some might even say a prettier face than Jennifer Lopez. So of course a regular old font just won’t do.
Lately, Idol's producers have been harping on and on, longwindedly and sometimes unconvincingly, about how “American Idol creates stars.” But really, seeing Adam six years after his first Idol appearance, his old Hot Topic hoodie and Manic-Panicked combover swapped for a designer suit and subtle tone-on-tone highlights, drove that point home. In 2009, Adam walked into the audition room looking like some cute emo kid; in 2015, he returned looking like a grown-up superstar.
Much has changed for Adam since Season 8, aka THE BEST SEASON EVER, besides his upgraded hair and wardrobe. He scored a top 10 hit that earned him a Grammy nomination. He had a regular role on Glee. Lately, he’s been fronting Queen at sold-out stadiums around the world. And on Thursday, the same day that his Idol guest-judging appearance aired, he announced that he has signed a new deal with Warner Bros. Records and is working on his third album with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback. But when Adam “re-auditioned” this week with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” — the same song he performed at Season 8’s San Francisco tryouts, years before he ended up singing it on tour with the actual Queen — his voice, showmanship, and confidence remained unchanged. I guess some people are just born Idols.
Adam’s Idol appearance this week could have had a negative effect on viewers: Instead of it being thrilling to see how far Adam has come, it could’ve been downright depressing to realize how far Idol has gone downhill since his landmark season, aka THE BEST SEASON EVER. But thankfully, there was nothing depressing about Thursday’s episode.
First of all, Adam was a great judge — encouraging and empathetic, but tough when he needed to be. So that was enjoyable. And second, while there were no singers at this Thursday’s auditions, which took place in New York City, that were quite at a Lambert level, much of the talent was still undeniably impressive.
Could any of Thursday’s New Yorkers be Idol's next breakout star, following in Adam's Louboutin-booted footsteps? Let's run down the best of the bunch and find out:

Watch Adam Lambert Get Nervous As He Recreates His ‘American Idol’ Audition
Lambert nails 'Bohemian Rhapsody' again for the judges.
by Emilee Lindner
Who knew that when Adam Lambert auditioned for “American Idol” in 2008 he would return to the show to sit behind the judges’ table?
Lambert filled in for Keith Urban on Thursday night, joining judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr., who pointed out that he can be kind of a jerk to the contestants. Had he no recollection of what it was like to audition in Season 8 of the show, which launched his career after he finished as a runner-up (behind Kris Allen)? Remember Simon, Adam?
The only way to remind Lambert of the pressure and fear of rejection was to put him in front of the judges once again. As Connick pushed him to give them the full Adam Lambert experience, he left and re-entered the room, telling them that he wasn’t “scurred,” just like he had said in 2008 to Randy Jackson. And as he sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” footage of his old audition floated in and out, matching up perfectly with the guy who became a star.
And, not for nothing, the current lead singer of Queen.

Adam Lambert Guest Judges on ‘American Idol’: 7 Highlights
Lisa Timmons Jan 16th, 2015
Hot on the news that he signed a deal with Warner Bros. records and is planning to drop his third studio album this summer (with Max Martin at the helm and a single on the way this April — woo hoo!) , former finalist Adam Lambert turned up to the fourth round of auditions for American Idol in New York City in last night’s episode.
Adam was filling in for an absent Keith Urban, and regular judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. welcomed the “Whataya Want From Me” singer with open arms. Upon his arrival, Lopez told Lambert with a smile, “Welcome to the other side of the table.”
As the first former contestant to return as a guest judge, Adam delivered some memorable moments for TV viewers and, most importantly, his loyal fans. We rounded up just a few of them below!
1. Adam stepped out in an an electric blue suit that perfectly matched his sky blue eyes.

Watch Adam Lambert Re-Audition for 'American Idol'
by Jackie Willis 5:14 AM PST, January 16, 2015
Would Adam Lambert have made it on American Idol had he auditioned this year?
The Idol alum blew judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. away when he agreed to audition for them by performing the 1976 song "Bohemian Rhapsody."
The Queen classic was one of the two songs Lambert, now 32, sang during his original Idol audition in 2009.
Now, he's back on the FOX show that gave him his big break, and serving as guest judge while Keith Urban is away.
Lambert is also planning to release a new album this summer and told Billboard magazine that his fans may not expect this sound. "I wanted something more internal and more grounded," he said. "A little less with the theatrical and the camp and the presentation. I wanted to bring it in a bit more."

Gig review: Queen + Adam Lambert, Glasgow

Replacing a lead singer is one of the trickiest manoeuvres in rock, never mind replacing the irreplaceable.
Queen + Adam Lambert - Hydro, Glasgow
* * * *
Since the passing of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, the band’s remaining founder members Brian May and Roger Taylor, now chief custodians of the Queen legacy, have dodged that dilemma by employing guest vocalists, not to impersonate their late frontman but to keep the music (a)live.
With his Broadway and reality TV background, American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert may not be the cred choice of Mercury proxy. But he is the shrewd choice, in that he is as comfortable flaunting the flamboyant theatricality of the material as delivering some seriously impressive vocal operatics, even adding some male diva melisma to the package.
Out and proud where Mercury was chary about his sexuality, Lambert is a natural showman who appears undaunted about stepping into such towering shoes. Frankly, Queen are lucky to have him.
But although the early part of the set was studded with regal gems such as the panther prowl of Another One Bites The Dust, gleefully lusty anthem Fat Bottomed Girls and a gloriously camp Killer Queen delivered while reclining on a chaise longue, Lambert had to work hard to rouse the crowd, finally breaking the ice with a barnstorming, skyscraping Somebody To Love.
There was already love to spare for May and Taylor, who took their turns in the solo spotlight. The former – camera fixed on his guitar, the better to capture his fretboard action and film the fans – had the vocal backing of the audience on a tender acoustic version of Love Of My Life, which was spliced with archive footage of Mercury singing the song, while Taylor was bolstered in his rhythmic efforts by his son Rufus, a flay off the old block, and duetted with Lambert on the righteous Under Pressure.
Lambert further showed off his stylistic range on Who Wants To Live Forever, a potentially hokey number, yet beautifully rendered with soaring control, flaunted his rock chops on Tie Your Mother Down and made his contribution to Bohemian Rhapsody sound so effortless, while deferring to some more Freddie footage, saluting the screen like a fan.
He certainly earned that camp crown he wore in the encore, while helming the fist-pumping We Will Rock You (with bagpiped intro) and a mighty We Are The Champions.

Queen + Adam Lambert – SSE Hydro, Glasgow – 14/01/15
So first let me start off by saying I’m not a Queen fan. Or at least, I didn’t think I was until I found myself whisky in hand, drunkenly repeating “just listen to him” whilst showing some friends the Queen and Adam Lambert Big Ben show on BBC iPlayer after returning from a night out.
The thing is, by the powers of what must be osmosis, there are very few popular Queen songs I don’t know, yet I don’t remember listening to them. I do remember that at just around the perfect age for forming music obsessions ‘One Vision’ was released, and I loved it. But for some reason I decided I didn’t really like Queen, and that first love didn’t grow. ‘One Vision’ was a particularly rocky song and less of the flamboyance, layering, and harmony vocals of the band’s back catalogue. If pushed I’d wager that 14-year-old me decided this was the reason. Or it could be that Freddie Mercury’s proclaimed in ‘Bicycle Race’ he didn’t like Star Wars! I honestly don’t know.
In 1992 many of the bands I adored at the time played the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium. This confused me as a) I loved the bands playing, b) loved the music they played that day, c) thought I hated Queen. Fast forward to around 2012 when a friend I’d recently met, and whose music tastes I respected, told me that they were probably his favourite band. He wrote about it here.
On Wednesday I saw Queen live. Yes, it’s not THAT Queen, and it never could be. However Brian May and Roger Taylor were two-thirds the backbone which along with John Deacon formed the band which created the legacy. I was very excited at the prospect, and given what I’d seen on TV knew that this could be a fantastic night. A curtain was draped over the stage and as lights went down the synth into to (believe it or not) ‘One Vision’ kicked in. 14 year-old me couldn’t believe his luck!
The curtain dropped and the band was in full flow, sounding powerful and rather special. It was Adam Lambert who was immediately commanding your attention however, in his full leather outfit and round mirrored glasses. The next song out the traps was ‘Stone Cold Crazy’, which again made teenage me excited due to my Metallica introduction to the song. I was loving this!
‘Another One Bites The Dust’ was next, and then we had ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’. Hit after hit ensued. Roger Taylor’s drumming was stellar, I particularly liked that in some songs he held his sticks backward providing a thicker “thump” which really drove the delivery forward. Brian May is a guitar god by most people’s standards. I’d never really considered his talent until standing there watching him effortlessly play. It hadn’t crossed my mind that he was the only guitarist in the band, and he carried the melody for everything. In every song his riffing was off the scale, his solos and guitar work were on point and a joy to behold. And then there was Adam Lambert.
Never trying to sound like Freddie Mercury, obvious comparisons were no doubt being made all around the room as we watched this performance. We were perhaps five songs in when he started walking to the end of the catwalk which ran through the crowd. Adam started by saying hello to Glasgow. Then, and I paraphrase slightly delivered the following, “I know it’s early in the night but thank you for accepting me. It as an honour to play each night with the rock and roll legends behind me. I hope tonight reminds you of the one and only Freddie Mercury and we celebrate his song writing and life. Tonight is a celebration.” He said it with such humility, it was obvious he meant it, and the crowd provided the response he deserved.
queen-adam-lambert-live-glasgow-hydro-january-2015-1By the time ‘Killer Queen’ was played I decided I was a little bit in love with Adam Lambert. His show-boating, flamboyance, wicked humour, playing to the camera, the crowd, or even sometimes to himself was a joy to watch. He sung the entire song from a Chez Lounge perched at the end of the catwalk whilst fanning himself and it was pretty much perfect. The tongue-in-cheek wink as he missed out the word “mind” in the line “She’s guaranteed to blow your mind”, or as he looked behind to watch the guitar solo and in awe mouthing “Oh my God! That’s Brian May” were funny and brilliant. He sung Freddie’s lyrics as if they were his own, adding his own personality with subtle runs and licks, never once trying to imitate or do karaoke.
Roger Taylor took to vocals to sing ‘These Are The Days of Our Lives’ and did a stellar job of it. The video screen behind him played old video clips of Queen, with Mercury and Deacon both receiving huge cheers. Roger walked around the stage as he sung, but never quite interacted with the crowd, rather he shuffled back to his kit. This led to a drum solo which took place between Taylor and his son Rufus Tiger Taylor (who had added percussion throughout the show). A second kit appeared at the end of the catwalk which Roger played. The solo was an impressive call and response between the two as they attempted to out-drum each other. Roger stayed out in the crowd as he shared vocal duties with Lambert for the Bowie/Queen track ‘Under Pressure’.
Soon it was time for Brain May’s guitar solo, and given his top-notch playing all night I expected something special. With exception of ‘Last Horizon’ and ‘Brighton Rock’ played in among it, the solo was bizarre and (given my expectations) sadly pretty shit. The noise, echo, reverb and weird Theremin-type sounds followed by inane chug-chug chugging riffs sounded more like a pre-show sound check warm-up. This was an opportunity to take the crowd with him, to stand in the spotlight and blow us away. I’m confident the guitar god worshippers and those who understand the wizardry he was employing loved it a technical level, but it alienated the majority of the crowd around where I was stood, including me. During it, I turned to my wife and she had disappeared. Then I realised she was bent over fixing something in her shoe. “What’s up?” I asked. “This solo is the moment I realised my in-sole was folded!” Mrs Scramble called how I felt in one sentence!
‘Tie Your Mother Down’ had Rufus playing drums with Roger at the side on maracas. Perhaps they prefer it this way, but I couldn’t help wonder if it was to give Roger a bit of a rest during the two-hour-plus set. He was back behind the kit for the next track ‘Radio Gaga Gaga’ and for the rest of the night. After the first big crowd sing-along of the chorus Lambert ended up down in the crowd, slapping hands and getting selfies taken. It was clear how much he was being loved tonight.
Whilst Adam was introducing ‘Somebody To Love’, Brain May grabbed the mic and asked the crowd, “What do you think of the new guy!?” This took Lambert by surprise and the massive and prolonged cheers from the crowd left him looking embarrassed, and somewhat flustered as he tried to remember what he was saying. May looked extremely happy as he walked back to his own mic.
‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is a classic song in music history, not just Queen music history. As the piano started Adam sung the first verse immaculately. The screen burst to life and the image of Freddie Mercury sung the next verse to massive applause. Lambert sung again before we had the video interlude for the middle section of the song. As Brian May returned to the stage with a massive riff (think Wayne’s World) it was obvious just how amazing Queen are. This song is special and to witness it live in the only way possible today is a pleasure. The ending however was the most special and poignant moment of the entire evening. With Adam walking up to the screen and pointing up to the video of Freddie, the pair traded line after line and shared harmonies throughout the “nothing really matters” and “any where the wind blows” ending. WOW!
With the solos and one or two deeper cuts there was a lull in the middle of the set for me, which was a real shame. In retrospect it also coincided with when Adam Lambert wasn’t on stage. I am sure for the die-hard Queen fans those songs were up there as equally important however.
The show was billed as Queen + Adam Lambert, not simply Queen (with a new singer). The reason was obvious from almost as soon as the curtain dropped; Adam Lambert is every much a superstar and accomplished frontman in his own right and deserves the billing. What a show this was, and Adam hasn’t replaced Freddie (nobody could) Yes many parallels can be made, such as his immense vocal range, the over-the-top flamboyance and wit, and that he is every bit the one in a billion find for May and Taylor that Freddie was. Lambert is unique, can sing every note, brings his own personality and charisma, and frankly steals the show. The fresh vigour that he has injected to the performances comes across in spades from the band; it is clear that all on that stage love performing together.
Queen always had a frontman, never just a singer. They’ve always needed that larger than life personality up front. It’s called a “frontman” for a reason, and Adam Lambert is every bit the frontman.
