IMO, those that left would have found something else to leave over. Probably those people were fans of American Idol Adam & not Adam Lambert. Considering the success of GN and sales of WWFM, IIHY, and FYE, I'd say the AMAs had less of an impact on losing fans than most people think. Without a doubt, it brought him international exposure.

One of the missteps IMO was waiting too long to release a second album. There was so much excitement by fans and press after the highly successful GNT. He had the wind at his back with a Grammy nomination. We all watched the active fan base shrink as the album kept getting pushed.
The second mistake era 2 was the music wasn't as amazing live. FYE promo was so successful because as great as the CD was it was 100% better live. (Credit to first Music Director Zack). I hate the click tracks that seemed to be used more Era 2. Adam was still amazing but didn't have the backing support he had before. He had to work to harmonize with the background singers when they should have been following him.
These are the 2 I see besides the obvious wrong single choices and release dates I do love the Better Than I Know Myself video.

Bringing over a perfect post from the other thread by Jablea!

… Awww, dadbert! Why is Adam getting so many allocades with the QAL tours? For me is because the stage is finally big enough. He doesn't have to rein it in. Just think if "get on your bikes and ride" Adam was doing Whole Lotta Love on the Idol stage? Kara lost her sh!t back then. And before that we have shoes being thrown at him, which was a good thing, but the record producers that saw him at that stage couldn't imagine how that Adam could translate into arena Adam. And they were right, that Adam would have been lost on this golden Q. But each step of his journey has been to a slightly bigger stage and then another step and another stage. He's grown into the challenge each time and come out the other side ready to leap again.
And even more amazing it seems he has remained sane, balanced, and decent which is truly a herculean task.

"All water under the bridge".. Adam couldn't totally be his own man,he was still under the auspices of Idol,i.e contract with RCA ,etc.I think some stuff was a bit of rebellion because he was still a bit owned by the label. Whatever choices Adam made were right for him at the time and the experience he has gained has gone into making him the man and the performer he is today... You have to make mistakes along the way that's how you grow.. I think If Adam had that instant superstar success like Katy ,Beiber ,etc. he wouldn't have been prepared for longevity.. IMHO, He wasn't mature enough to handle all the fame, I believe he is now ready to embrace superstardom. To add and to me the most important ingredient in Adam's career is that he is finally free of post Idol,he has hired his own management team, gone with a label he has chosen and has the incredible Shoshanna to boot.. This time around it's Adam's team.

From the TCA Live blog about American Idol. Hopefuily this will show up. One of the reporter's tweets about the panel: Debra Birnbaum @debrabirnbaum Scott Borchetta on contestants that got away: Most of the world thinks Adam Lambert won. #AmericanIdol #Fox #TCA15
OT warning
Here's what he said from MJ's site, "Most of the world thinks Adam won,” Borchetta said of Adam Lambert, the season 8 runner up. He feels his job is to make sure that after the winner is crowned, they’ve been given the opportunity to succeed."
The thing is the winner have been given the a lot of opportunity to succeed, but when the talent's of the runner up was off the scale compare to the winner, you cannot said that they've not been given the opportunity to succeed. The winner's promotion after the announcement was way more than Adam the runner up. And he shouldn't blame the world they think Adam is the winner. With a talent and charisma like Adam there's no other option for the world to think Adam than winning AI..
I went over to MJs but could not find the thread. Will a kind soul please provide me the link? Pretty please

This is a comment from the author of the Forbes Idol article about how he came to the 2.5 million earning for Adam. All comments are about Adam, directly or indirectly. Zack O'Malley Greenburg Zack O'Malley Greenburg, Forbes Staff 1 week ago We don’t usually release our breakdowns, but I appreciate your thoroughness and non-trolling tone, so I’ll make an exception. Lambert did eight non-charity solo shows doing our scoring period and his average gross is $420k, according to Pollstar, so 8 x $422k = $1.125m. For merch, standard calculation is $5 per head at 8,858 people show x 8 = $354,320 (yes, some of those shows did not draw that much, but online merch roughly fills the gap). That gets us to $1.479m, call it $1.5m. We weren’t able to get precise record sales data from his team or label this year, so we estimated 500,000 TEA sales (one-third of Kelly Clarkson) at a royalty rate of $1.75 = $875k. Round up to $1m to account for streaming payments and work with Avicii, and you get $2.5m total. That’s not counting the one Queen show he did in our scoring period, but we round up or down to the nearest half million on this list. I hope this restores your faith in Forbes! There is quite a bit of follow-up in the comments section which still leads me to believe that they did overestimate which Zack comes back and agrees with. Adam still makes a lot just not as much. Click on the comments and make sure to go to page 2 to see all of the followups. www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2015/01/06/top-earning-american-idols-2014/Actually Zack underestimated what Adam made in this period. This confirms the list of income omissions that I previously posted AND confirms that he had no accurate information on Adam's earnings. It is a rough, crude estimate.

Borchetta replied to a fan on Twitter! ShowMustGoOn @alalwayz @tvguide @scottborchetta @adamlambert did win: Global superstar, singing lead for Queen, signed with @wbr, new album on way, adoring fans!!! Scott Borchetta @scottborchetta @alalwayz @tvguide @adamlambert @wbr YEAH! *********** Agree, Q3! The 2.5 is definitely underestimating considering we now know for sure, things he did not include!
