Oooo, that last video of UP is rough!  I like Roger's Radio Gaga though. His voice really reminds me of Bob Seger, who I love! There is a slightly better one from the VH1 Rock Honors but that has more Paul involvement...but yeah his Ga Ga is great. I was actually surprised how good his Show Must Go On was...i mean nowhere near Freddie or Adam but still a very serviceable performance. |

Not often posting Tommy stuff, but this fanart stopped me in my tracks. That captures Tommy amazingly well, imo. =============================== And thanks for your feedback on my drumming/singing musings. Taking it all in what you have to say, and still need to work my way through Talon's examples. I am not really clear on this hearing loss and obviously none of us really know. Read different things, but I mostly get the impression that Roger can hear just fine in interviews, seems to react to any unusual high-note coming out of Adam and is clearly receiving all necessary outside signals just fine. He is certainly not just 'beating to his own drum'. I also don't understand how he would be able to play with others, if that were not the case. So, when I read these things like 'almost deaf', then I tend to take them with a very big grain of salt. But obviously, I don't know anything more than the next person, just my own thoughts. And about that relying on each other: Yes, I noticed that too, when Roger turns around to make sure that Adam is coming down the walkway. True. For me this is an example of a much bigger observation in how much each of these guys needs to be able to rely on the others. Adam needs to rely on his sound technician to not accidentally blow his ears out, he needs to rely on everyone in the band, that each one remembers every task, and there is so much that can go wrong. From sound, to torn pants, to possible stumbles, to power supply, to lyric fails, this is such an amazing balancing act, to get everything just right, it is amazing that they can get any sleep at all. Btw, how do performers like Adam deal with 'earworm'? I listen to 5 videos and I have by brain humming them back to me for a day or two. They are singing them night after night? How do they not go nuts, because some chorus is permanently stuck in their heads? ETA: And ah, I can post tweets now. And was totally simple too. Just had to know about the right button. < / > Somebody had posted that recently, not sure anymore who, but thanks to whoever provided the tech-help.  |

I also wanted to thank you for posting your interesting observations. I've wondered before about drumming and singing, but hadn't pursued that thought -- so now I know! I totally agree about earworm. I've had "Save Me" stuck in head since the first video of Adam singing it. Of course, every subsequent viewing, just reinforces it! Save me from this earworm!!! |

I am headed back to the States after 4 amazing QAL concerts. Huge thanks to Tinafea for taking over the news while I was travelling. The two O2 London concerts were great but the audiences in Northern England (Yorkshire/Leeds and Lancaster/Manchester) were like the old days of Queen. I met so many amazing people -- and like Johnny Appleseed I gave away quite a number of copies of Adam's Acoustic Live. Including to a PD from Capital Radio. He really did not know much about Adam. I will post mo re over the weekend after I get back. ETA Bri apparently cannot keep a secret.  Can't wait to hear! Woohoo! And can't believe you carried copies of Acoustic Live to the UK!  More importantly, did you have fun? Take fun -- and multiply it by 1,000,000,000,000,000 and that is what I had. |

Continued from earlier topic - singing and drumming at the same time, just a few thoughts I had. Whenever Adam sings, his whole body is in functioning in the service of his singing. Adam is centered, his energy, as well as his breathing come from his core, his diaphragm taking over as gate-keeper for everything else. Adam is a master at that. ....... Adam is very good at giving signals to others, if he wants to, but usually it was to help someone of lesser skill. Here it seems to be in support of an overall artistic moment. But still, I am pretty impressed at what Roger does here, during this song. During idol, we had tons of videos that demonstrated how Adam helped others find their entries or even the right key. Watch Adam pitch correct and guide Kris throughout WATC here. At some time we had a version where the fog was a little less thick, more HD or whatever, and you could see Adam's thumb in action too, but in this one it is hard to see, because of the fog. But anyhow, you get the idea and the eye-signal at 2:46 is clearly visible, when Kris has finally arrived at the right key. ...... Wow, this is deep. I must have watched this video so many times before there were the better and actual QAL vids to watch and didn't notice all these signals and pitch problems with KA. Just found his voice to be "thin" next to Adam's but is do the majority of us. |
