yikes guys. I'm talking about his first post Idol album. This new album was a long time in the making. I'm obviously not making myself very clear so I'll bow out of the conversation now. I got it, kathleen! :D You said the "post Idol" album was rushed. DC2 is over 2 1/2 years in the making. Very much the timeline that Daughtry had. Release is set for June 28th, 2011. DC1 came out in Nov. of 2008. So closer to 3 years than 2. Ya, I am somewhat disappointed because I wanted to be really excited when I heard the first single, like I was with FYE. The one thing that has me nervous about DC2, in relation, to Adam 2 is the timeline. I really hope we don't have to wait until next year for the new album. Fall would just be the best release time. But if Adam isn't ready or if RCA wants to sit on it, like with Kelly's new album, what can we do about it?! Not a damn thing! yes to all. When David sang Permanent on Idol, I cried. I was hoping he would tap into something like that, raw and/or emotional, so this new single really disappoints me. I'm hopeful that Adam/RCA know the importance of not delaying Adam2 and they'll do everything they can to make that fall release.

OMG she's ridiculous : If you click on the Harper's Bazaar link in that quote story you get the full interview which actually makes things worse. There's a point where she talks about Rico the guy that is tattooed head to toe and says he was "born that way" as in it was his destiny to be that even though he wasn't actually born with tattoos. Here's the link: www.harpersbazaar.com/magazine/feature-articles/lady-gaga-interview

rabbitrabbit, interesting twitter numbers for the Bruno comparison. However, look at the album certifications for Bruno's album. His bigger strength, as for so many other pop stars, seems to be singles.
CertificationsRecord certifications for Doo-Wops & HooligansAustralia ARIA Platinum Canada CRIA Platinum Germany BVMI Gold New Zealand RIANZ Platinum United Kingdom BPI Platinum United States RIAA Gold
For FYE, the album (hasn't been updated since Feb)
Platinum “For Your Entertainment” album Canada – 80,000 units: March 2010 New Zealand – 15,000 units: May 2010 Singapore – 10,000 units: September 2010 Australia – 70,000 units: January 2011
GOLD “For Your Entertainment” album U.S. – 500,000 units: January 2010(certified June) Canada – 40,000 units: January 2010 New Zealand – 7,500 units: March 2010 Singapore – 5,000 units: March 2010 Finland – 10,000 units: August 2010 Australia – 35,000 units: September 2010 Malaysia – 7,500 units: November 2010
I 100% agree that in the Pop world, radio play can make you or break you.

I'd been wondering about this for awhile. I wouldn't be surprised if Adam's core buy-everything fanbase is around 5,000 in the US. His charity water contributions were around 5,700--and the difference in amount raised for the Trevor Project vs. charity water might have to do with the amount of $ spent per person, not the number of people doing it. (Of course some folks made multiple donations/purchases, but someone on another site analysed this for the charity:water campaign, and only a small fraction of the donors were doing this). I do think the fact that many countries couldn't buy the remix off AO impacted sales, and that the charity aspect seems to work better if there is some competition or ability to write notes/record names involved as it encourages ongoing activity/donations. So obviously casual fans and new fans are vital buyers, so I agree with everybody about the lead single. If you want to see an interesting comparison of the differences a lot of single radio play can make in bringing in casual fans, look at the differences in how fast Bruno Mars overtook Adam in twitter followers: twittercounter.com/compare/BrunoMars/Adamlambert/3month/followersDifferent artists and different audiences....I think Adam is doing incredibly great.. Why compare ??????It's again I got 98 on a test where are the other 2 points.. Lots of angst today... Adam tweet a photo.. quick. No angst, just discussing. I angst over things I have control over that are not working out the way I want. I recognize that I have no control over what or when Adam 2 comes out. After, though, I will definitely angst over radio play and requesting and you better believe I will be non-stop PIA about requesting! LOL! ETA: Actually, melliemom, Bruno is the closest thing we have to a male pop star right now. So, IMO, same audience.

rihannsu, nothing about my post says that I think RCA is not happy with Adam. I didn't even mention RCA. I think they are thrilled with their international super star! wonderstruck, I am guessing based on the DVD and Aftermath single sales. I know nothing. Just guessing and speculation. And, when I say, core fanbase, I mean hardcore US fanbase > the people that will buy anything and everything from Adam. I wasn't saying that you did just trying to address the general angst being displayed about the size of the hardcore fan base. Maybe I should have just made a separate post rather than quoting but I was just trying to keep it together with this particular thread of conversation as we have several different thing going on at once right now. My post was intended to be more about not worrying that the hardcore base seems so small than it was about RCA's satisfaction.

Here's the link: www.harpersbazaar.com/magazine/feature-articles/lady-gaga-interviewI can only hope that Gaga is like Andy Kaufman. He would stay in character as obnoxious lounge singer Tony Clifton for days on end because it was his own private joke to see how freaked out people got as they tried to figure out if he was putting them on. He even spread rumors that Clifton was actually a separate person, and tried to get a guest spot for him on Taxi. It was all for his own amusement and he didn't really care if anyone else was laughing. Maybe Gaga is getting a big kick of people taking her seriously. That's still bizarre, but not as bizarre as if she really believed all the crap that she spews. Adam seems to believe that she's in on the joke and doing it all with a wink and a hidden smile. Me--I'm not sure. Frankly I find her shenanigans quite boring.

Yeah radio play will make or break ya. He needs the stations to take a chance on him like they did with Gaga. Her music is kinda different from what most people were doing at the time ---and now everyone does what she did lol--but they took a chance on her and she blew up. Now I think her first two singles from the new album are crap but they will get played to death regardless bc she is Gaga. Adam just needs one super mega hit single and then he will probably get super radio play like the Bruno Mars' and the Kesha's and the Katy Perry's.
I see that he collabo'd with the lady--name escaped me--who co worte 'Teenage Dream' so hopefully one of his collabos can turn up something amazing, out of the box AND radio friendly at the same time.
I have not heard the Cook song yet but I don't want any bland middle of the road pop rock either. I wonder if the #2 album idol curse exists because the labels don't think these artists can achieve superstar/international star status and so they just don't bother trying after they make their money off pf their first album? The kiss of death imo would for the label to wait too long with Adam's second release. However I think they realize that and will put it out in a timely matter, and I base that on the fact that there has been so much interim material. For once in all my Idol fandom I feel like the label fully recognizes the talent and potential here and will support and nurture it. I may be wrong...but here's hoping I'm not.

mys*&@^#r50 To me Bruno Mars is so soft pop and his voice certainly fits this genre and Adam IMO is more pop-rock, unique , like Michael Jackson was or like Pink. Same audience, you think so? I know NOTHING about US radio, just asking here.

No angst from me--like mys*&@^#r I don't do angst about what I can't control, I just like observing and trying to understand better.
The size of the super-duper hard-core fanbase doesn't seem anything but normal to me -- and we've already seen that the commitment of this group is quite remarkable.
I find comparisons to other artists interesting just to examine what is working in what ways. Looking at the differences and similarities between Adam and other guys in pure pop (vs. HAC or urban) seems natural (especially as there are very few of them right now).

I think you're right. The amount of support RCA has given Adam (except for a 4th US single) has been unprecedented in Idol land!
