I don't get this....the songs don't sound alike to me except perhaps in the phrasing of "stay with me" and "I won't back down" but other than that, nothing alike IMO.
eta: I must have bad ears or something because I don't hear the similarities. Some people said Kelly's new single Heartbeat Song sounds like Jimmy Eat World's In the Middle, which I also don't hear the similarities too.

I am sure it was contained to a point because they settled quickly and quietly " behind closed doors" so they wouldn't draw the attention. Had it gotten ugly you know the press would have been circling, looking for blood. Have to admit there was something about that song that was bugging me. Did not connect it to the Petty song tho..hmmm ..I always heard "Stand By Me" when it came on. Eta...another song that triggers that feeling..is "Happy".... It feels like a speeded up " Horse with no name" by America.. Drives me nuts |

Thank you! This has been driving me nuts ever since I first heard SWM. It was so familiar that at the time I thought why is SS getting such accolades for singing a 'cover'? Once I even checked on line for an earlier version of SWM to no avail. I just did not connect this with Tom Petty. Duh! And this was off the only TP cd I ever bought! Good for the Petty peeps. I thought it was a cover too! Glad "I'm Not the Only One!"  (sounds just like Stay With me!) |

I didn't follow Grammy either since Adam's not there LOL. So did SS get a Grammy for this song? I think he needs to return that thing back to the committee. IMO off course.

Grammies have not happened yet. But Song of the Year goes to the writers, so if it wins, Tom Petty will also get a Grammy. There are 4 writers listed now instead of just 2. |
