Sometimes I think Adam broke pop music in general for me. I don't want to seem like I slam any pop singer who is not Adam, but when he is the standard I cannot help but compare others to, they almost always come up short.
The Buble song is quite cute and catchy. I like it. The studio version certainly has a generous amout of autotuning, if you like that kind of sound. The various studio tweaks sure did help pump up the singing in the lower register. But the studio magic didn't do much to make the lyrics understandable, did they?
The live version? If I were a judge on a talent show I would comment first on the presentation style. With this frothy, fun, F-U song Buble needed to pick that mic off the stand instead of bending down to sing into it. He needed to move and bounce around the stage showing joy. It was also in the wrong key for him, as he had difficulty singing the lowest notes with any power or support. Of course, if they raised the key he might have had problems with the highest notes. I don't know. So, maybe not the right song for him due to the large range it requires. With a bouncy song like this, hitting the pitches accurately is a challenge. The notes go by so quickly that the singer does not have time to make minute adjustments to the pitch. He has to be spot on immediately, and Buble wasn't always capable of that, tho' it didn't sound too off to me. If Buble worked on his breath support that could help both the low register problems and the pitch problems. He could also benefit from studying how to articulate words clearly. He just needs stronger technique and stage presence to perform this song at its best.
IMO. YMMV.

His upper register was really pretty weak and was the only time he was even slightly pitchy. Oh and forgot to mention he had a thirteen piece band - two sets of drummers, a horn section, a string section, two pianist, two guitarists and four backup singers, oh and a choir (for you raise me up)...

So in part 2 of our boy baritone he was in battle singing Josh Groban (again)... Guy he was singing has nice voice too until he pushed a bit hard and slipped off key. I know this isn't Adam related (unless you count I'd be interested to hear how he'd tackle a few songs like this). But interested in thoughts of masterclass folks: m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=EQ9JRlrhZn4

I've mentioned before that Sirius - the Blend is on where I work. This week... thankfully they are not playing Just A Fool - Christina & Blake - quite as much. They are playing Buble, Groban and Rihanna's Stay, and it breaks my heart that Adam doesn't receive the recognition he deserves. As you say, Cassie, when you compare him with any of these "great" singers, he's far and away the best.

Too bad one of them had to be eliminated. but I like the boy who won a bit better. I agree with the judges that he does a great job with interpretation that really makes you feel it.

Ricardo Afonso who performed that awesome WWRY and WATC at The London Party during the Olympics tried out for 'The Voice' UK recently. I wonder if Brian's rant the other day was prompted by watching him.
He did get two chairs to turn around but it will be interesting to see what Danny O'Donoghue from 'The Script' can teach him. I suspect nothing.

So as long as we are still doing Voice while Adam sings the soundproofing off the walls and selfishly doesn't share even a snippet (LOL pouts)... There are these two awesome older dudes on Voice Oz. The black guy is 76 I think! Woo hoo good for him, your never too old to follow your dream. Here is their battle round, a great version of walking in mephis: Check out this great content from The Voice Australia www.thevoice.com.au/video.html#/videos/Week_4/TheVoice_AU_s02_Ep13_clip1506_2092

I suspect nothing. Really good singer. Why did it take them so long to turn around, especially Tom Jones. He sounds sort of like a current Tom Jones--big voice, vibrato, big inflections. I like it.

This video will not play in my country. Boo. Couldn't find it on YT, either. (I love the song and wanted to hear his version.) But here is his audition: Very nice voice. Good control. Not much sound of tension or strain on the high notes. Thanks for sharing. Parenthetically, while I appreciate Bocelli's talent and voice, I am not crazy about his sound on high full-voice notes. Like many classical tenors, it sounds tense to me. Note, this is a style that is prized by many, just not me. I prefer the light, floating, effortless tenor voice such as Adam has. It FEELS better to me. To each their own, right?
