Cassie had you posted anything about Adam's diva off with Nikka? If you did could you post it here too? I'd love to know what notes he was hitting (high and low) in those runs. Here's what I posted on the 13th. Listening once (twice, five times) again to the Adam/Nikka YT. Creepy views of Adam's mouth/throat included, which, of course, fascinate me. What's so great about this? 1. Technically speaking, he demonstrates a full two octave range in about a minute --- at the top, an E5, and the bottom an E3. More range than most all of the male pop guys I have heard. 2. This is Adam's voice raw. No electronics, no reverb, no tweaks, of course no autotune. Adam au naturale. 3. This shows Adam's smooth transition between his head and chest registers. The second time he sings the phrase he shifts into head voice for the final note he adds at 0:16. Again with head voice at 0:23, then, for the run going down and smooth blended voice thruout until it ends in rich chest voice. A belting chest voice with added head resonance at 0:46 for the run down, then shifting back to head voice for the light end of the phrase, showing power and subtlety on one phrase. 4. This shows Adam's creative ability to turn a phrase and make a tune out of nothing. We have heard that many times live with some of the rock covers that normally don't move out of a narrow range, but with Adam have all kinds of soaring vocals. Those might be rehearsed, this is obviously off the top of his head. 5. The mouth shot shows him executing a vibrato with great muscle control. 6. The ending belting battle shows great breath support. 7. The whole thing shows Adam's fun sense of humor. He is not at all afraid of even mocking himself and his voice/stylings. Plus we get his delightful laugh, which Angelina described to me as looking like glittery gold and silver bubbles (she has synesthesia, and SEES sounds). All this in 1:30. A brief glimpse of why Adam is worth our adoration and stanning. Also, I asked Angelina about that interior view of his mouth and she said that it was manufactured vibrato that demonstrated what great control he had of his muscles. Also, that there is a groove in his tongue that all naturally gifted singers have.

Hi Cassie, promised you I'd write something on the topic as a fellow synesthete, so here's my take on the FYE album if anyone's interested. Mind you, I wrote all of this down before reading Angelina's take on it, so I was surprised how much we saw/felt alike! To my knowledge, each person "sees"/associates his own colors with music, letters, feelings etc., so to speak; there is no general rule which thing is which color, it's all very subjective and personal-so I am doubly fascinated with the similarities in our experiences. This is the closest I can find to how I hear Music Again; also, if I had to describe the feel of the album in one image, it would be something like this: FYE -dark purple, with dark grey, black and some bright yellow, very sharp images, with spikes being that yellow I see WWFM- light silver grey, almost white, I see two parallel long, slightly curly flows of calm energy going; the acoustic version- feels white and blue, with round energy Soaked-blueeeeeeeee ( I see white and silver as well, even some warm pale green, but the overall feeling is rich navy blue) SFW- emerald green, with tons of purple and some orange and some light cyan, occasionally some gold drops(interesting, not much different from what lasers Adam used on GNT-I guess we see it similarly-yay!!! ;D) IIHY-all yellow and orange, also bits of green and gold here and there; very warm and sparkly feel Fever- all purple and anthracite in my mind, the way he says "sexual" feels rich, vibrant green. SW-silver and pistachio;keep getting images of mist and swamp, cold etc CLYG- it's such a crystal white-shiny silver with bits of pale-dirty light blue-song to me. Every time I hear it I see rain pouring like crazy, and it feels like wandering through empty wet streets on a weekend morning without an umbrella. I also see trees, their crowns dripping with water. I love that song BO- dark dark blue and white. I close my eyes, and see a seagull flying over the sea in the early hours of a summer morning, when everything's calm and peaceful. DTRH-everything intense orange with a lot of red mixed with purple. It's actually maybe my fav song from the album, I feel such warmth, joy, confidence, happiness and love when I listen to it, I don't know how to describe it better, but it makes me wanna literally burst from sonic and visual stimulation ;D Colors I see are something like these 2 combined; There it is-for your entertainment While somewhat unusual, I love my synesthesia 'cause it certainly adds much to the overall sonic experience Some of the colors and images vary from time to time but this is my current take.

Yes, it is fascinating!!! I think of how we say that Adam never sings a song the same way twice. It makes sense that he is changing it up based on emotions, interactions with the audience, acoustics, and interpretation. It also goes a long way in understanding how we have been saying that the kids on Idol this season have good voices, probably the best of any season, but they don't move us, don't inspire us to vote for them or become interested in them. They have not yet learned how to craft a song, louder, stronger in the right places, dialed back in the right places, sustaining a single note a little longer here for emphasis, altering the expected rhythm there to change it up. This is something that Adam has mastered, and it makes people of all ages respond to his performances, even those little kids in the YT video today on the daily thread. Adam is the total package partly because he has both the technical training and practice to perform the notes perfectly and soar up and down his considerable range, and the instinct and artistry to interpret a piece of music in ways that touch us at our emotional core. We respond instinctively, not knowing exactly why. The science may be giving us new answers to that question. Thanks so much for sharing this!!!

When we talk about technical ability as opposed to artistry I always remember the movie "The Competition" with Richard Dreyfus and Amy Irving. That was a great story illustrating how being technically perfect is not enough in and of itself because that very perfection can be cold and unemotional but when you move beyond the technical perfection and infuse the music with heart and soul that is true artistry. This is why age and experience are valuable. To have taken the time to master the technique to the point that he doesn't have to think about it allows Adam to move beyond into the realm of the heart and soul. That to me is true mastery.

I haven't been around here much lately, so "hi everyone". I'm basically posting this here because I'm so fucking excited that songs of Carole King is the theme for next week's Idol. Even though I can't get behind any of the contestants, Carole has written and performed some of the best music ever. So Cassie, what say you about this group of amazing IMO female artists. This performance always gives me goosebumps. youtu.be/za9NkUZkYQsSo, if there was ever a male "Diva" concert, who would you like to see Adam perform with? I've got to think on that one for a while.
