Cassie... I love this song.. Is Adam using mostly chest voice and used his head voice in "everybody wants to talk about freak"? Thanks. Underneath is gorgeous. Yes, that is head voice for that phrase. He blends it perfectly in tone with his light chest voice for the lower notes. Later he sings the same musical phrase, but in full voice. He also flips to his head voice for the word "black" in "black and blue skies." I cannot wait to hear the entire song. It may end up being my favorite, tho' OOL would be hard to beat.

Cassie, what's your favourite vocal performance on Trespassing going by what we've heard so far? Underneath for me.

Cassie, what's your favourite vocal performance on Trespassing going by what we've heard so far? Underneath for me. Oooo, I'm with Adam on this one. "Don't ask me favorites." I like different songs for different reasons. 1. NCOE: NOT my favorite song, by any means, but I like the long legato lines he lays on top of that driving dance beat. The light head voice the first time he sings "eyes", and then the full rich voice when it comes around later in the song. It is more obvious in the live acoustic versions where there is no backing cover, but, it is there in the studio version as well. 2. Trespassing: Wicked fast lyrics that he gives incredible punch to by bouncing off the consonants. Articulation is marvelous. Pitch is right on, even when the notes go by so fast. Great breath support. To pop the lyrics and the notes so hard and so accurately .... I don't think it could be achieved with autotune. It would lose the smack and the groove. 3. Broken English. For the multi-layered harmonies, blended so well. Very rich sound. 4. OOL. For the gentleness, purity, and simplicity of the vocals. 5. But, yes, if forced to pick, Underneath is breath-taking. In the beginning the voice is so present, pensive and intimate with the minimal piano backing. Then, as the song develops, Adam does this remarkable thing with his voice, squeezing it so that it sounds just this side of weeping. It sounds like he is is fighting back the tears and singing through the clenching of his chest and throat. Do you know what I mean? It's NOT strained, but it is filled with pain. Or, at least that is the tone I hear. Such a great interpreter of the emotions in a song. That, as much as his vocal ability, is what makes him such an impressive artist. What do you think?

Cassie... Underneath: this song conveys so much pain, so emotionally revealing and I can't listen to it continuously because it hurts.... my heart aches to hear Adam's vulnerability expressed thru this song. I'm not even sure if vulnerability is the right word... more his struggles/low self image when he was consciously hiding behind those make ups. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it because I can picture him singing this song and all the emotions showing in his face ... love this song because of the sheer beauty of Adam's voice coming thru and the melody also grabs me... it seems so simple but the delivery is so elegant ... a masterpiece IMO. Do you think this will be a hard song to sing live just like CLYG? ETA: Just saw you addressed this question in the main forum. Thanks, cassie...

Love the contrast of full voice and head voice between both lines and how the top line isn't simply following the lower line a third up. Two beautiful lines intertwining, it just sounds sublime. And I really like the low lines on Shady too

Cassie, I saw a little Angelina flailing on twitter but I was wondering if you've talked to her since the snippets came out?

Cassie, I saw a little Angelina flailing on twitter but I was wondering if you've talked to her since the snippets came out? Just a quick email back and forth. She has been diligently working on a couple of new radio programs and editing old ones. Yes, about Adam, of course. She's also got a lot of irons in the fire, projects, proposals, opportunities, that are leaving her little time to finish her programs, but, I think the next one will be coming out soon. Will let you know when. We will probably Skype once the official tunes are released, but this was her initial response: Like us, she is blown away by Underneath, and wants to devote an entire program to it. And I cannot imagine her not doing a review of the entire album. She is a one woman Adam promo in the UK.

Yeah, I figured she's been really busy and to tell the truth I'd rather her wait til after the full album is out to really do in depth on the songs. But I bet she was flailing her ass off when she heard Underneath. Given how OOL affected her I figure Underneath is probably gonna lay her out when she hears it live.

Hmmmmm. Interesting. Is it Adam's natural voice? Yes.... and no. The first time thru that high voice is, in my opinion, all him. Falsetto or head voice? Hard for me to tell. But, I am going for head voice thrown high into the facial mask. If it was falsetto, I think it would be breathier, less ringing. The highest note is E flat 5, which is two notes lower than his incredible G5 in the last note of My Conviction. It just sounds so high because it is so crystal and piercing. They might also have tweaked the higher frequencies in the production mix. The second time thru, tho, the person making the video raised the pitch electronically. You can hear the change in the key that is not in the original snippet it was taken from. Also, there is something a little chipmunk-y in the sound. I don't think the snippet needed tweaking. It was totally impressive just as it was. Damn! That boy can SANG!
