Underneath is just the perfect vocal performance. The more I listen to it the more it takes my breath away. Who else sings like that, who?!

I know some folks have this prejudice about musical theater and being too "Broadway", but, IMO, so much of what Adam can do like no other comes from his many years in theater, where your song must tell a story, must move the plot along, must have a purpose, must hold the audience's interest and hearts. When you couple that with excellent voice training and technique, you have a dynamic combination as a performer.

Exactly, I'd say it's his best vocal performance ever cause never before has he thrown everything he can do together in one performance so tastefully.

Hi Cassie, my first post on this wonderful thread, which I've really enjoyed reading from the start. Do you have any initial feelings on whether or not it will be more or less taxing on Adam's voice to sing concert after concert of the Trespassing songs vs FYE? I know they can adjust the key etc, but these songs seem more "demanding" vocally to me. I also noticed that on the GNT tour his voice seemed to get stronger and stronger in a strange way as the tour continued. I was absolutely blown away by his Sleepwalker in Brisbane (which I still think is his best live version of this song).
I also read a comment by Angelina that said that Adam's voice would continue to improve as he matured. She didn't elaborate much, so I'd be really interested to know what you think.

I must be one of the few people who aren't in love with underneath. I like it don't get me wrong and the beginning is beautiful, but the last part of the song after "red rivers of screams verse" gets a bit overwrought for me. I can't remember which reviewer noted he'd have preferred it the track had maintained more the quiet intensity of the beginning throughout and I remember thinking that I agreed... Ducking behind rock now :-)

Glad you posted. I don't know which are more demanding. Good question. Adam went for more vocal acrobatics on FYE, which he admits to. But, to me, Trespassing shows more range not only in pitch, but in style and approach. He is also singing with incredible energy and power recently. I would definitely say he is growing stronger and stronger, able to do things now that he couldn't do as well two years ago. It is marvelous to witness. Angelina and I have talked about this growth. She saw changes from the beginning to the end of GNT. When she saw him last summer in Canada, she was startled at how much he had grown vocally and as a performer. She saw a new confidence and centered-ness. She described it as him really being a world class superstar now. Coming into his own. She continued to see this growth in the EMA performance. And, yes, since male voices tend to get better and better until about age 35 or so, and all voices get better with frequent and correct usage, she thinks we will continue to see this evolution. I certainly see and hear that in these recent concerts. I wrote about how blown away I am by the Philly show on the daily thread today.

Ducking behind rock now :-) It's could be a bit less dramatic as a song... but as a vocal performance it's out of this world! ;D nikki, have you heard Club Nokia version of Sleepwalker? Even better than the Brisbane version imo! As for your questions, I think the FYE material is much more demanding live. Adam himself has said that on FYE he felt pressured into doing all those crazy acrobatics where as on TP he could relax a bit and focus more on the music and the other things he can do with his voice besides the belting. Runnin' and Underneath are definitely the most demanding on the album, in third place I would have put Broken English and he pulls that off without a sweat, in the original key! Most of the songs leave themselves open for some vocal improv / gymnastics live if Adam ever feels like it though cassie, agree that his voice is sounding much better! I wouldn't say it's "lowered" but it certainly has a much thicker weightier sound, especially compared to FYE and AI. And he hasn't lost anything on the high end in the process! Unbelievable :D

nationalglampoon, thank you for that - and yes, I happily admit that I have seen the Nokia performance of sleepwalker, and every other GN peformance on YouTube multiple times ;D ;D ;D. You're right, it's staggeringly beautiful. I watched it again after you mentioned it, and of course, Brisbane . Honestly, who the fcuk sings like that live? I saw Adam twice when he was in Australia - first in Melbourne, where I was in the second last row, up in the back gallery. He looked like an ant on the stage, but it was in an old theatre with incredible acoustics and being up the back, way up high (having to stay in our seats ???), the sound was just bouncing off the walls everywhere. By sleepwalker, the tears were just streaming down my face. I have never been blown away like I was that night and I have seen all the so-called pop greats, including Freddie in his heyday. I can only imagine what he is going to sound like at Royal Albert - those lucky bastards!!!!! In Sydney, I was front row and I could see his glittery sweat. I could go on and on, but I'm already OT enough. Cassie thank you very much - given the beauty and power of his voice at the moment, he'll kill us if it keeps on improving much more. I really like the fact that he feels he has less to prove in terms of "vocal acrobatics" this time around. Sometimes though, it seems to come from such a place of joy that he almost does it unconsciously.
