Since recent talk of other non-Freddie Queen performances, I have been watching some of Paul Rodgers and Marc Martel. I find them boring and uninspired. Adam's voice makes my heart soar! I found this video of Marc Martel discussing how he learned to sing/mimic other singers. He watches youtubes and tries to copy everything they do. In this video he demonstrates how he is learning to sing opera via watching youtubes . The performance leaves me flat. What I would give to have Adam post a video of himself performing Nessun Dorma! Please!!

In WWTLF in Kiev the 'Ours' I thought started slightly off pitch (sharp?) then he corrected. I thought it was spot on in Moscow yet I preferred the Kiev performance.
Justgill commented on the same note at the end of July 4 thread.
I wondered what our vocal experts thought.
I know what you mean about hard rock and Adams voice Cassie. I think it is why he doesn't punch out WWRY as sharply as Freddie. His voice just rings too much.
I'm also not enjoying the ending of STL. I think it was pitchy both nights.
Sorry if that sounds all negative but I pretty much loved everything else. I never really liked FBG untill Adam sung it. AOBTD and Under Pressure are so much fun.

Yup, that final glory note at Kiev when he sings "ours!" was painfully off pitch - flat. When he added vibrato it sounded a wee bit better, but still not right. His performance up to that note was so gorgeous, I was already making a mental list of which musician friends I was going to send it to. But that note? Ouch. It ruined the song for me. In Moscow did you notice how carefully he set that note up? He sang, "Forever [breath] is [breath, pause] OURS!" Like he was carefully taking aim of the note. Makes me suspect he reviewed the video and cringed. But, it worked. He hit the note (which, by the way is the same note as the end of "Feeling Good" and a note he routinely hits with ease.). I agree with you that while the song at Moscow was beautiful, there was something exquisite about the Kiev recording (maybe better sound recording) up until that note. Adam had a number of "bum" notes at Kiev. Don't know if it was nerves or ear monitors or oversinging or what. Most all were fixed at Moscow, but, again, STL was still off in Moscow. Knowing Adam, he will have reviewed the videos and figured something out. He will either have it fixed by Saturday or he will change what he sings and not go for those notes. There are many listeners who don't hear the out of tune notes. They don't understand what we are talking about and think we are being overly critical of Adam's performance. Perhaps they are lucky, being able to enjoy the songs despite the bad notes. For any of you reading this, if you don't hear them, just smile and enjoy. But, please understand, that those of us who do hear them don't love Adam or his voice any less than you. It's just that pitch problems like that are like fingernails on chalkboard or biting down on aluminum foil with a tooth with a metal filling. Very uncomfortable, an uncontrollable flinch, and something we cannot "un-hear." And, I also agree with you about FBG. Love the sound of it now.

I also preferred WWTLF in Kiev despite that bum note probably because I didn't like the pause between "is" and "ours" from a musical perspective. Not sure if it's taxing on Adam's voice but I'm sort of hoping he tries powering through the sentence again like his attempt in Kiev.
Overall, I felt that Adam was stronger vocally in Moscow but there were still a couple of songs which I liked better in Kiev, namely "Under Pressure" and "I Want It All". The "whyyyyyy" in Kiev was fantastic :D

Sometimes I am glad to be tune challenged... Comparing both WWTLF's and the errant note in question I can hear difference but at time during Kiev performance I honestly didn't notice it at all - carried away in moment I guess, which I suppose is just as much part of things as all the perfect notes in the world.

Welcome Gina! :D Very good points here made by everyone. I really wish I couldn't hear the pitch issues at Kiev, but alas, I can't enjoy performances with bum notes cause I know it's coming and I'm always gritting my teeth in anticipation. Just the way my ears work and it sucks :( I still thought it was a very good show overall but not the best way to introduce Queenbert to the world and show the naysayers what for, obviously the first show wouldn't be without its hiccups but knowing the huge audience I figure they should have had a practice show before it, cause Moscow I just find flawless and fantastic BTW I so hope they switch up and bring in some songs that are just so suited for his voice (imo) like Killer Queen and You're My Best Friend :D

Did anyone else notice the high A flat at 2:45 (I think, I don't have anything to test it with)? This is Warsaw.
ETA: It's a G. I just checked with the keyboard in GarageBand. Seemed higher
I enjoy the WWTLF intensity from Kiev, although the flat note being discussed is painful. I wish he would do it again (not the flatness, but the pitch). Probably he feels jinxed or gun shy. I didn't like the pause before it in Moscow, and in Poland he kept low--not as exciting.

I agree with the "gun shy" assessment, but if I had to choose I would prefer that he stay low in order to insure good pitch. I really want a pristine version of WWTLF.

I don't think that Adam's voice is particularly well suited for hard rock. cassie, this is what Gene Simmons said ;D I am not sure we agreed with him as far as I remember ;D

I don't think that Adam's voice is particularly well suited for hard rock. cassie, this is what Gene Simmons said ;D I am not sure we agreed with him as far as I remember ;D Yeah, I know. It is sacrilege. But, I have been listening over and over to the Moscow vids. So much goodness! And, while he does a fantastic job of singing Queen songs, I think he does it despite his voice type. He MAKES it work. How to explain? When I listen to hard rock singers, in general, they sound like they are pushing the sound out most of the time. There is a tense, strained sound to it, accompanied sometimes by grit or gravel. The tone is dull and flat. Tho' it may be loud, the voice does not ring out. The lines tend to be short, because they are using so much breath to force the notes out. They tend to slur the notes and kind of approximate them. There is nothing refined about the tone, if you know what I mean. It sounds raw. ETA: Yes, I know I am stereotyping the hard rock voice. Not all rock singers sound like that. But, that is the style/type voice I associate with hard rock. Angelina once laughed about that sound that singers get when they are straining, even sometimes classical tenors. I had asked her why that was so popular, and she said it was because it sounded like sex. Adam's voice is naturally light and clear, and has a distinctive ring or ping to it. Even when he is going for the stratospheric notes, if you listen but do not watch, it sounds clear and effortless. When he dials up the power to maximum, I can almost feel him hyper-expanding his whole torso to amplify and support the sound without straining. Adam adds techniques to toughen up his delivery and sound rock. He punctuates the notes, spits out the words, adds a squeeze to the note, adds a little grit once in a while (to do so more often would be damaging). When you watch as well as listen, he does all sorts of moves that also add punch, toughness and sex into the performance. These techniques are very effective in making him a successful rock singer. But, when I just listen with my eyes closed, I still hear the lyrical lines, the pure tone, the spot on accuracy with which he hits each note clearly and distinctly. And always, always, the ringing resonance. I say this in a good way, but, it is almost like a highly trained, talented broadway singer taking on the role of a rock star. (Which, when you think about it, it sorta is.) Or, at least that is what I hear. YMMV.
