Cassie I don't know if anyone has asked this before.... I was listening to the TP cd in my car this morning, trying to listen to the back up vocals. Is it Adam singing the back up vocals on OOL? I can't tell. I hear his back up vocals on the other songs but OOL leaves me questioning whether it him or a female. *Puts on Cassie mask* It's Adam singing head voice! TKS I'm surprised because at first I thought is was him but didn't hear his vibratto and its a very quiet softer vocal that's why I thought it might be a female. He just amazes me. Back to listen to this again. again, tks!

Back to listen to this again. again, tks! glampoon, you can answer questions any time! Thanks. crazy, you have pointed out yet another aspect of Adam's skill and artistry. He can sing in so many different ways. In CTMBTM his voice is pure crystal. Clear as a bell, but light to the point that it sounds like it is floating. With lots of vibrato throughout. In Heaven On Their Minds, his voice is also very clear and rings with resonance, but it is forceful, strong and fierce. Still using lots of vibrato. Two very different styles of "legitimate" musical theater style of singing. In OOL he also uses a light voice throughout, but with a much more "pop-y" sound. More breathiness rather than crystal. And very little noticeable vibrato. Just enough to warm up the sound. He can make his lower register blend perfectly with his head voice in that light, floating style. Conversely, he can sing notes that should be in his head voice range, but employ lots of power from his chest voice as well. He can add grit and gravel to his tone, as well as a darker, baritone like timbre. Or, he can sing with a tone that sounds just like a mezzo soprano (in My Conviction). It is all totally under his control. It is comparable to a guitarist who performs with a number of different guitars for different sounds. Acoustic, electric, six string, twelve string, one that sounds twangy, one that sounds mellow, one that is perfect for jazz, one that is perfect for metal. Adam has just one instrument, but, he can get so many different sounds and colors and weights from it. Adamazing.

the bridge in Trespassing... can I say I cracked up when I heard Adam singing that hilarious 'oh oh oh~~~' :4OMG: :4OMG:
Btw, on some other fan sites there were folks referred this ' Trespassing ' live being 2nd degree 'train-wreck' due to the vocals in the bridge >:(

Btw, on some other fan sites there were folks referred this ' Trespassing ' live being 2nd degree 'train-wreck' due to the vocals in the bridge >:( It was a little bit messy, that bridge. Adam made a mistake and started to sing the bridge before it was due, so he had to sing it twice. And it's a difficult bridge to sing, IMO. But second degree train-wreck? That's too much. He saved it fairly well. The dry feed made it look worse than it was, actually. If you listen to the fanvids, it sounded pretty good. I really don't like dry feeds. : Cassie, you have a wonderful, poetic way to describe Adam's voice and his vocal mechanics. I love reading your posts, here and elsewhere. I'm learning so much just by reading how you describe what I'm listening to. Thank you!

He didn't use stage monitor yesterday. Reminds me of him singing at Party City (not enough professionalism, sound issues, and unresponsive engineer). I also felt Adam being a little uncomfortable. :-/ ETA, just finished watching the official video, he sounds much better, the camera picked up more sounds (harmonics ?) than in the streaming one. Still hate the dry feed though. Obviously, the sound issues messed him up. >:( But he did a good job recovering though

I also felt Adam being a little uncomfortable. :-/ Nah, I think the problem was that he was singing with a track, not with his band. If he had made that mistake while singing with the band, they would have followed him and no one would have noticed a thing. I don't think there were sound issues. As I said, the fan vids sound pretty good. My guess is that they send the dry feed to the recording, but you don't hear that when you see it live. And I didn't see him motioning to a sound guy or anything that let me know he was having problems. If Adam was a bit uncomfortable, it was because he wasn't singing to his own audience, but to a bunch of business men. And he did great, the audience responded to him, as we can see in the fan vids. The only moment where Adam was clearly out of his comfort zone was when the Naked Love track wasn't starting and he had to keep talking. Seriously, he did good. Don't worry about that performance. People who were there loved it, he probably made some contacts and he probably was paid big bucks just for singing three songs. Win, win, win.

I agree with you that the problem was him singing with a back track. He took his earpiece out right after WWFM started, the stage was just not up to his professionalism IMO. I am not worried about his performance although every time I get nervous watching him singing live for new audiences ;D. I just got pissed while seeing some people called it a 'train-wreck' cuz I think he did very good too  Anyway, it's all good. Cheers.

I am usually a pretty laid back kinda gal. But, this has me steaming. ADAM'S FANS are saying it was a train wreck because during the bridge? WTF? He came in too early. I think there are about 10 different versions of backing tracks and this one had an extra couple of bars where he does that grunt/pant. In other versions of the backing track, that is not there. It goes straight into the lyrics on the bridge. So, Adam forgot which of the many versions he was doing on stage for a second. Did anyone in the audience even know anything was off? Absolutely not.
He didn't stop singing and walk off the stage. He didn't sing in the wrong key. He didn't say "Oh, shit! I made a mistake. Can we start again?" He just vamped for a couple of measures and came in on the bridge at the right place. Very smooth and professional.
As for the dry feed, can these fans name anyone else in the music biz today who can sound like THAT with a dry feed? I thought his voice sounded strong and full. It had Adam's signature "ping" or ring in the tone. It was well supported, on pitch, and he hit that marvelous E5 perfectly. Frankly, it is a dry feed like this that really shows off his voice, in a way. So many pop singers sound rich and full, sound like their voice is ringing out, because of the tweaks made in the sound system adding harmonics, echo, reverb, and layering. With Adam, it is naturally all there in his voice before anything gets added. To me, he sounds better with that dry feed than many other singers sound with the whole shebang enhancing their voice. I don't get what was so "wrong" with it.
Ah, well.
