Adam Lambert's 'The Original High' Album Is On Its Way & Here's Why You Should Be Excited

Get ready, Glamberts, because new music is just around the corner. On Thursday, Adam Lambert revealed that his new album is called The Original High and that the lead single will arrive sometime in April. (Yes, that’s only two months away!) The singer also reminded us that his upcoming project is being executive produced by Max Martin and Shellback, which is AWESOME NEWS.

Now, if you’re a pop music fanatic like me, you probably haven’t stopped freaking out about that last piece of info since it was first announced a couple of weeks ago. But if you don’t always pay attention to who’s helping out your favorite artists behind-the-scenes (which is totally understandable, by the way), you might be wondering: “What’s the big deal here? Who are Martin and Shellback?” Allow me to explain…

Put simply, Martin is a music legend. The 43-year-old writer and producer first hit it big working with acts like the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears in the late ’90s, and now boasts a whopping 19 No. 1 records on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (which puts him in third place behind John Lennon and Paul McCartney). Incredibly, 15 of those songs topped the charts in just the last six years. In other words, Martin has his finger on the pulse of pop music in the United States, and he’s really good at what he does.



Shellback is probably known best for his collaborations with Martin, but he has an impressive discography of his own, too. For instance, the 29-year-old just recently co-wrote and produced Maroon 5’s hit single “Animals.” He’s also done some great stuff with One Direction (“Kiss You”) and Icona Pop (“On a Roll”). Shellback has eight Hot 100 chart-toppers to his name (seven with Martin).

Interestingly, the last album that Martin and Shellback worked on together was Taylor Swift’s record-breaking 1989. In fact, they helped create the LP’s No. 1 singles “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.”

These two guys could be Lambert’s ticket to more mainstream success! After all, they’re responsible for crafting his first and only top 10 U.S. hit, “Whataya Want From Me.” Admittedly, chart success isn’t everything, but I just don’t want the American Idol runner-up’s new album to fizzle out like his last one did. He’s too talented for that. More people need to hear his music!
