Twenty-four years since the death of Freddie Mercury and forty-five years since the foundation of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor, as the only two members of the original lineup, do not stop working and letting people experience one of the greatest rock bands almost a quarter of a century after what seemed the end. After Paul Rodgers, they give the microphone to the most worthy exchange for the memories of Freddie – a 33-year-old Adam Lambert, a pop-rock vocalist who shook things up in Vienna on the first day of February and made all prejudice fall into water
Text by Igor Jurilj
When he stood before the judges and cameras at the American Idol audition in 2009, and then sang the opening lines of Bohemian Rhapsody, Adam Lambert certainly did not even begin to fathom that six years later he would be the vocalist of the legendary b(r)and, or help them win the prize for the best rock band of the year. In the talent show final, when he lost to Kris Allen due to his homosexuality, he shared the stage with Queen for the first time, singing “We Are the Champions”, not knowing that he was predicting his own future. Three years later he performed in front of the millions in Moscow, Kiev and London, and by the end of 2014, the band, without Freddie and John Deacon, ventured into a glam tour with the leading vocalist of today, into a world tour of reminiscence, but not imitation.
Although they were not looking for him, Adam appeared as a dignified and worthy replacement for Freddie without any tendency to copy Freddie’s extravagance or flamboyance, which Adam, together with his innately entertaining character, possesses on a natural level. As a manager of the experience, the young singer confidently glides over the stage right from the opening “One Vision” and projects all his Broadway shaped theatricality by swaggering through songs like “Killer Queen” or “Break Free” in their appropriate baroque production. The royal band requires, but also provides the royal treatment, of which the crown evidence is the stage divided into three platforms and an oversized hydraulic screen to aesthetically please the sentimental and not at all harmless audience.
There, the laurels for natural behavior on stage, and towards the audience as well, due to his innate sense of the crowd, go to Lambert as a showman ‘par excellence’. Sorry, the royal entertainer! His somewhat comedic theatricality, but by no means ridiculous speech and communication, suggests knowledge of the pulse of the audience, but also the pulse of hard core Freddie fans who are just waiting for the wrong move to crucify him, as is the case on the Internet, where those who never saw him are too quick to condemn. But the Viennese case, just like the previous stops of the current tour, confirms the honest straightforwardness of the young vocalist with a cheerful approach to life. Eventually, the Viennese audience blesses the singer after his expression of gratitude for the acceptance, and gives green light and two thumbs up for the very ungrateful role. Lambert himself is under the pressure of fetishisation of a legend and totemism of a myth, pressed onto him by the mass delusion about replacing Mercury, but one should know that he is not a new front man of Queen as much as he is the voice which reminds us that the band’s legacy still lives.
Moreover, the Queen of 2015, to the dismay of many, reveals its neglected side, particularly the one concerning Brian May, who at the time of the original lineup was in Freddie’s shadow, while today he gets the opportunity to show himself in full tone and voice. Therefore, Queen is not Adam Lambert, but Brian May and Roger Taylor. In the middle of the concert, the modest guitarist intimately and acoustically reveals a private face of an astrophysicists, a storyteller and a singer, who, after introducing the Einstein’s twin paradox, sits openly in the middle of the audience on a long runway, where after the story, like some kind of a shaman or a benevolent grandpa surrounded by his grandchildren, he sings Love of My Life. Quite unexpectedly, a colossal projection of Freddie appears behind his back, whose voice completes the pathos of the moment, and instead of the collective euphoria, it brings tears down the faces of the two-generational audience.
There are two generations on stage behind the two sets of drums as well. Roger Taylor and his son Rufus, after Brian’s acoustic set and a play on string instruments, begin an unexpected drum battle. Thus connecting the past with the present of Queen, Taylor introduces young blood to the band, and it flows from the same biological and sonic family. Young Rufus is not only a spitting image of his father, but he equally masterfully takes the sticks and rivals the legend, who, after the drum performance, ascends to the throne before the colossal circle of light and transmits the lyrics “It’s a Kind of Magic”. Expectedly, the reactions are approving because of sentimentality and indirect nostalgia, although Taylor does not even come close to the curly guitarist, let alone the three octaves vocalist. Nevertheless, that it is all a good show and that the show must go on, is confirmed by Lambert. After lascivious movements in the first two sets in a leather jacket and a little steampunk vibe, he begins the third part with “Tie Your Mother Down” in a pure punk outfit and flirts with the audience through collective singing, and then the famous bouncing and clapping to “Radio Ga Ga”. The two-hour time travel ends in monumental Bohemian Rhapsody with Lambert delivering introductory verses, only to bow and leave place for the moustached giant on the very same moving, light portal to retro-utopia, enthusiastically and unanimously supported by thirteen thousand souls from across the former Empire. The young glam-rocker returns for the very finale where he alternates the verses with his unreachable idol and shows right there at Freddie’s side that he does not pretend to be him. Vocally and stylistically different, Adam reigns supreme on stage, nurturing all the qualities of Freddie Mercury, but with no intention of imitation, despite it being the sincerest form of flattery.
With his own camp mannerisms, Lambert appears to be the perfect choice for Mercury`s work, although, in his style and vocal presentation, he does not possess that quality of masculinity which, despite his flamboyance and excess, Freddie radiated with. Moreover, Glambert, as he is called by his fan base, is not adorned with a rough texture coming from the chest, but a softer and a gentler vocal, which, let’s not shrink from the fact, overreaches even Freddie’s boundaries, as is confirmed by Brian May himself. In a leopard-printed suit, with a well-deserved crown on his head, Adam Lambert comes out for an encore invited by three-beat rhythmic blows of the audience to “We Will Rock You”. He rounds off the 25-stop show through the past of Queen with the stadium anthem “We Are the Champions”, establishing himself as the playboy of glam rock with grandiose voice, worthy of bringing back the memory of the mustached king.

So it was at Queen + Adam Lambert in Berlin
»Queen + Adam Lambert" - 02/04/2015 ( O2 World, Berlin )
»Queen + Adam Lambert" - 02/04/2015 ( O2 World, Berlin )
Last night, woke up the spirit of unbridled rock band back in Berlin to life: Queen playing in her 45th year stage still the big stadiums. Since 2012, they come with talent show star Adam Lambert on tours. Like the man makes, you read here.
It is quiet, almost dead silent. The legs are close to 15,000 people in this giant concert hall in the abdomen, half sitting impatiently in the stands. Starts a clapping, the o2 World does not need four seconds to match. From the stage roars, Spotlight search the huge curtain with printed logo from Queen.
20 clock it should go. Queen , the wondrous rock band of the '70s and' 80s wants to experience a revival in Berlin. An event that took place recently in 2008 with Paul Rodgers. Before that, there was the last chance to see one of the biggest rock bands on the planet in Berlin in 1986 with the phenomenon of Freddie Mercury. It is 20.20 clock. Some glow even in the warmest Wängchen Red, other natural rumple her hair with excitement. Then appeared as Brian May's shadow on the curtain - even the verdrießlichsten among the seasoned men conjures the guitarist now a smirk on his cheeks.
ADAM LAMBERT IN PERFECT ROCK STAR POSES
When the curtain falls, the looks are mainly due to the "new man" thrown on the mic. So Brian is Adam Lambert before later, the second of the "American Idol" season in 2009, the then presenting with Queen covers and must accompany the band since 2012. A dream for him, but, the 33-year-old real legacy? In fact, the erwatende to skepticism remains off instead flashes as a spark of nostalgia in the boozy faces on, emit little tear from eye. Because Adam just does everything right. Scrubs May one of his countless solos in exaggerated length, he is awesome Lambert to the side, even kneels down in front of the guitar legend when it defeat all the power of the distortion. Is it time to spin, he rides the microphone stand with his damn tight leather pants in "Stone Cold Crazy" or prancing in perfect rock star poses to "Another One Bites The Dust" on the big stage. He plays with the spirit of Mercury without get too close to him. There is a vast difference between the two namely: Adam has outed the beginning of his career, Freddie until shortly before his death. With his second album "Trespassing" Lambert was even the first obvious gay artist who topped the Billboard Charts.
He oozes like Freddie ago sympathetic self-confidence: "? Now we rock finally, right" , he calls mischievously the Berliners and cheekily: "My Bitches out there who rises to your bikes and ride off." Hardly anyone seems it felt sick to assume that he moved his voice in the usual musical style in falsetto heights. Because he did not aggressively tried to imitate Freddie. Only in operatic pieces like "Killer Queen", he is his own idol remarkably close, especially if he still sipping on red besamteter couch from the golden champagne bottle. "I want to thank you. Because I am so happy that every night to be able to make. If it works for the one and only Freddy, then I am happy " , Adam brings out. "I love Freddy so hot." He wants to celebrate it on like every night. That sounded perhaps a little too plump therefore said, but before resentment can arise, Adam disappears again and returns to the legends.
Brian continues with the acoustic guitar on a stool and surprised with knowledge of German: "Good evening, Berlin, alright It's nice to be back here ye me sing for Freddie.?" Then the doctor revealed in astrophysics with the white Mozart -Löckchen his "Love Of My Life". In the background - between the giant Q-construct that acts as an oval canvas - appeared to Freddie. Spooky. And somehow familiar so beautiful. May wipes away a tear and gets in front of his best buddies, with which it shares 45 years of band history: Mr. Roger Taylor. The nice Opi with the light gray Santa Claus beard shines in "A Kind Of Magic". He walks comfortably from the stage, on drums now sits his son Rufus Tiger Taylor, overflowing with energy. Even as the two duel in the drum solo, not a single sheet welding spot the black shirt by Taylor. Professionals, both.
For "Under Pressure" then Adam Lambert comes out again. Somehow he has been wanting the man with the big gestures and the high notes. In "Who Wants To Live Forever" he sings tenderly like a bird under giant disco ball - the drama queen who just never forgotten. In them, the phenomenon of musicians who are six feet in front of you but will affect world away lives.
Adam is just the perfect host, he served everything with pinpoint accuracy. Human adults become children again, amazed than wait a mountain cotton candy at them. Touching, but somehow also very easy to paradise. Outbreaks missing, rough elemental force, yet so alive from the rock. But this is whining at a high level. Lambert's voice dances with the audience, then again with May's guitar. "Radio Gaga" is the opera in which to live out Adam and can cuddle with the first rows. Brian makes Berlin a question: " What do you think of the new guy? " Buh will be a some escapes, but the crowd cheered. Because it simply just a way for Queen's "The Show Must Go On"!
And prove the British damn strong in the encores "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions". Lambert is in leopard coat and a golden crown in front of Berlin. " We will work with anyone else more after we have worked with the great Adam , "Roger Taylor was not until last December, know. OK then.

Adam Lambert Fits Perfectly on Stage with Queen, According to Fans and Critics

Even though the age gap between Adam Lambert and the average member of Queen is quite noticeable, this hasn’t stopped the performer from having a great time with the band, and receiving very positive recognition for his performance on stage with the rock idols. Some publications even went as far as to say that Freddie Mercury himself would have approved of Adam Lambert and the way he presented himself on stage, as the performer apparently has quite the energy and talent, and is not shy at all to show them to the public.
Of course, those same publications were quick to remind people that they were in no way comparing Lambert to the late Freddie Mercury, who has an iconic status in the world of music. However, he still deserves a place in the musical hall of fame, as despite his early age, he’s already made some significant contributions to the industry.
And Adam Lambert himself is reportedly enjoying the whole ordeal quite a lot, as he has expressed satisfaction from his performance and his ability to mesh with Queen, while also admitting that the whole experience has been a significant boost to his confidence. That should come as no surprise to anyone, as getting to play alongside one of the most iconic bans in the entire history of music is definitely something that can shoot a talented performer’s career into the skies.
Lambert seems to recognize this and he’s already on the job to make use of his newfound fame, as the performer has been reportedly recording his own solo album, which he claims is going to transition his music into an entirely new era. He has evolved in terms of lyrics, emotions, sounds, and everything else, in his own words, and he describes the album as feeling very fresh.
Many fans have been enthusiastic at the news, and seem eager to hear the album in action – although when exactly this is going to happen remains up for speculation. Lambert hasn’t given any indication about a possible timeframe for the album’s release, and given the fact that he’s reportedly only started his work on it recently, it could be a while until we get to hear it.
In the end though, this could very well be the rise of a new star, and the wait could definitely be worth it, no matter how long it is. Lambert will probably keep his fans up to date with any new developments on the album, as he seems to rely to a large extent on his popularity with the crowds. And there’s certainly nothing wrong in that, as it’s an important aspect of a successful performer’s career.
