Well, Sam Smith did it. He is a mainstream pop star and has made a video about gay love/marriage. It's all very tame, but there it is. Good boy. And please the gods, may Adam never be seen as tame. Amen to that. Sam is very chaste which is why when you watch his video you actually think about gay marriage. Remake it with Adam and forget the church everyone will be thinking about the honeymoon. Interesting mix of comments on the vid so far. Young women and a ton of young gay guys. I't's only been up 1 or two days and well over a million views. And so far not a single Adam mention which both surprised me and (yes to our discussion of a few days ago) also pleased me. I'm hoping Adam can borrow some of this demographic for himself because while there was some #shaking&crying there were not very many OMG!!!!!s and people just need that in their life. Here is Sam's comment: Dear All, Here is the Link to the LAY ME DOWN music video. This song holds a very dear place in my heart. With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all x

I am not sure why Sam Smith titled this latest song "Lay Me Down" for two reasons: 1) I didn't hear any lyrics that said "lay me down" 2) Adam has a song called LMD and it's very current I'm also confused about Adam's endorsement. Sam has a lovely tone to his voice but I detected a slight speech impediment in his vocal deliverance in this video.

Freddies former personal assistant. Talks about the differences between Adam and Freddie. And the difference between liking the original and it is okay liking an individual who puts their own original style on the original recordings. Says to Freddie taught him self, where Adam was taught how to sing. Not sure I agree with that necessarily. But its an interesting listin. t.co/klXJeyovsm

In response to point 2, Sam Smith's LMD was actually released before Adam's LMD - February 2013 (UK release). Adam endorses many artists whom his fans may or may not like, and he has endorsed less talented people multiple times (Azealia Banks anyone?). We know that Adam saw a Sam Smith concert and loved it (plus Sam tweeted him back), so it makes sense that Adam would still be supporting him. Also, I'm sure Adam sees Sam and Sam's continued success as positive forces for LGBT artists (even if we here at Atop don't all see those things in the same light).

Second of all, the statement that I've quoted is true; it's not something you can agree/disagree with. Freddie had absolutely no vocal training until a very late point in his life. Even then, it's only speculation as to whether or not he had training. talon probably knows more about this than I do. Edit: I'm now an hour into the video, and Pheobe says he NEVER had any vocal training, AT ALL. We all know Adam has had a lot vocal training - thus, he was taught how to sing. You can argue that he has a "natural gift" all you like, and of course he learned a few tricks himself. But the the fact of the matter is that the reason why his technique is so strong, moreso than Freddie's, is that he's had the opportunity to learn from others. That doesn't diminish Adam's own accomplishments in any way, haha.

Can't wait til I have time to devote to listening to the 3 hour thing...especially given that it's probably very off the cuff. As far as I know Freddie had no serious vocal training. I admit to not knowing everything, but I never really heard any story about vocal training from an outside coach.

I'm just over an hour into the video, and Peter said Freddie never had any training at all, even informal lessons. You were right. Guess I shouldn't believe all speculation I read on the internet. It's amazing so far. Lots of very in depth talk about Freddie's voice. We finally have a definitive statement that Freddie was a natural baritone with an upward extension, not a tenor with a lower extension! The stories from Mexico are pretty mind-blowing as well. Listening on...even though it's almost 6am where I am

Listening on...even though it's almost 6am where I am if you listen further you'll get to the point where Peter settles on Heldentenor (think Wagner) for Freddie, explaining the difference with Verditenor, and the reasons for his opinion: Heldentenors are lower, more powerful and less passionate. A very interesting discussion! How generous it is on Peter's part to give a full three hours interview! BRAVO!
