Not sure if this had been posted already. I had not seen it. Interview with Freddie's assistant by one of the Digital Dream Door guys. Talk about Adam begins around 1:18. Interesting journey from the interviewer, from super skeptic to fan. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB7r2I4UBS8There was quite a bit discussion about it in yesterday's thread. Everyone's comments worth reading but my attempt to link to it failed. Feb 6, pages 10-12 of the thread. Since I posted at the end of a dead thread, am reposting here. Worth skimming through it as Freestone and Greg are rambling like two guys in a bar. happycat14 Avatar happycat14 Member ** 4 hours ago Quote Post Options nica575 said: queenofthenight said:I'm just over an hour into the video, and Peter said Freddie never had any training at all, even informal lessons. You were right. Guess I shouldn't believe all speculation I read on the internet. It's amazing so far. Lots of very in depth talk about Freddie's voice. We finally have a definitive statement that Freddie was a natural baritone with an upward extension, not a tenor with a lower extension! The stories from Mexico are pretty mind-blowing as well. Listening on...even though it's almost 6am where I am if you listen further you'll get to the point where Peter settles on Heledentenor (think Wagner) for Freddie, explaining the difference with Verditenor, and the reasons for his opinion: Heldentenors are lower, more powerful and less passionate. A very interesting discussion! How generous it is on Peter's part to give a full three hours interview! BRAVO! Very interesting. Only skipped around. But at 1:24 or so they talk more about Adam. Peter is very clear saying the songs have to live and Freddie's recordings stand so essentially no need to "defend" Freddie when there are other singers/interpretations. He saw QAL in Wroclaw and says since then, Adam's come on (same things Brian and Roger say and we've seen). Adam as QAL has improved immensely. But what is weird is that Peter says "Adam has a good teacher in the back." Totally get that Adam had training and Freddie didn't. At some point, though, shouldn't Adam get credit for using his training in order to interpret the songs? He's not looking offstage to his vocal coach. The only teacher in his entourage is his personal trainer. Or did Peter just mean "in the back" as good teachers in his background? Greg asked some nice questions but at other times it was very rambling. His conversion to QAL is funny, and his regret over his initial harsh attitude is sweet. He went to Detroit then had to go to Toronto and then the next Toronto and each successive gig was better than the previous. Lol Very nice of him to give the interview. Wonder what he does now for a living? He referred to hotel rooms in Czech Republic. « Prev1..8 Read more: adamtopia.com/thread/2816/2-15-adam-news-info?page=12#ixzz3R5OZXLPaThanks, Happycat. Sorry I reposted, I totally missed the discussion. Anyway, on QOL, someone also summarized it. Hope it's okay to bring that over. Mods, if not okay, let me know and I will delete it. ----------------------------------------- Just listened to this fascinating youtube interview by Gregsynthbootlegs (from DDD forums). It is almost three hours long and covers so many neat things, in particular the voice that Freddie had. Peter explained how Freddie was a baritone but learned through his own efforts how to create that tenor voice, since the big bands of that era tended to have tenor leads. He talks mucial notes, the whole gamut of Freddies' voice. At 1:18 or so Greg asks him about the Queen plus gigs which leads to a very interesting discussion. Since a lot of you have wanted something more definitive than posts by Adam fans, I thought you might enjoy listening to this. For those who do not care to slog thru the whole 3 hours this is the jist of it pertaining to QAL: (this is all according to Peter, who I guess knew Freddie very well) 1. Freddie never expected Brian and Roger to hang up their instruments after he died. Freddie knew they were musicians and that the Queen music would never shut down. Freddie would feel that Brian and Roger have every right to do as they choose with the music and he, Peter, has never seen the two of them look as happy as they now do on stage. The performances with Adam just seem to work and have garnered a whole bunch of new fans. 2. Peter would not get into individual voices, but felt the worst compliment for a singer would be that he sounded like someone else. The singer needs to sing it his way and put his own slant on the music. He feels Adam has been very successful at bringing his own interpretations to Queen's music, especially since Roger and Brian are on board with the way Adam is singing the music. He felt that music does not die with a performer and cites opera as an example. If a part is written for a certain opera star, it is inevitable that someone else will later sing it or the music would just die and that is not the point of great music. Good music deserves to be heard with many different slants depending on who is singing the song. Peter feels that Adam has done himself proud. "Adam has come on so well". 3.Both Greg and Peter feel that Adam has come on leaps and bounds since the 2012 concerts. Peter saw a show back then and notes how much improved everything is now. Greg also explains how he used to be against the Queen plus shows, but after 3 QAL shows, he is dying to see another one. 4. They also both mention how ugly the discourse is now between the two camps. Peter has never seen anything like it and is appalled at both sides and does not understand the "keyboard warriors". His opinion is that there is plenty of the old music around on youtube, the internet, and albums. There are other places for QAL music. Stick to your own camp, but don't demean another person because your opinion differs. 5. To Peter the biggest difference between Freddie and Adam is that Adam has a trained voice (and not in broadway! and Freddie created his own voice by himself). Peter mentions a couple of times about how there had to be a teacher in Adam's background. He sheds a lot of light about Freddie singing with Monserrat and how in his opinion, Freddie did not have an opera voice. I found all of this fascinating. There were also gigs and songs mentioned. It was wonderful even though it took me 3 sittings to listen to all of it. I think some of you will enjoy it and it was certainly a plea for all of us to come together!!

Thank you for that summary, thelambertluvva. I'm almost always too lazy to sit through a long video myself so I really appreciate that you brought over the significant (i.e., Adam-centric) parts!
