As a sewer taught be a very fine seamstress, I feel your pain. However, That discussion was held when the pants first appeared on the tour. We were informed that they are plaid not tartan and that the plaid is deliberately not matched so as to not make the wearer look wide. YMMV. From my quick searches online, I'm finding pretty much this: "Plaid is the American and Canadian English word for Tartan, a pattern consisting of crossed horizontal and vertical bands in two or more colors in woven cloth." "Tartan is often called plaid in North America, but in Scotland, a plaid is a tartan cloth slung over the shoulder as a kilt accessory, or a plain ordinary blanket such as one would have on a bed." As far as I know, the pattern should always match at seems. Learned that when I was a kid learning to sew. It's hard to imagine unmatched patterns being a trend. Who knows? (Edited to refine my definition.) In America, "plaid" is a more generic term than "tartan". Tartan usually has a particular type of plaid pattern and usually a wool fabric. A plaid can have more generic patters and may be made from any fabric. For instance, here are a couple of plaids that are not likely to be call tartan:

In America, "plaid" is a more generic term than "tartan". While tartan is generally a plaid with 2 or more colors over a background color, a plaid can be just 1 color over a background color and may look different than the usual tartan patterns. The more I look (got curious) it seems like a distinction between the might be unclear in the US. Here's another from a designer: "To keep things simple, I'm just going to stick to the basics and try not to overwhelm you with too much technical detail. All plaids and tartans are comprised of stripes (in varying sizes and colors) that meet at a 90-degree angle. We start heading into 'tartan' territory by looking at the geometry on the pattern. With most every tartan, the pattern on the stripes running vertically is exactly duplicated on the horizontal axis too. Basically, this matching pattern in both directions will create a grid. The warp and weft threads are then woven in a two-over-two "twill" pattern. When looking at a simple plaid, you'll notice that the stripes — either in color, size, or pattern — are not the same in both directions." www.housebeautiful.com/home-remodeling/interior-designers/q-and-a/a2099/difference-between-tartan-and-plaid/ The things Adam gets me to learn about?!? Crazy.

Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland. I think Adam's pants are actually tartan...but modern tartan. Versus traditional Scottish Tartan patterns...

BRAVO GAGA !!! I'm liking this new Gaga. That was awesome! Love Julie Andrews and she really looks great too. So - what kind of event can we imagine where two extremely talented pop singers could do a musical theaterish duet? And what would we want them to sing?

I have the Oscars recorded to watch later tonight .... what an incredibly beautiful performance from Lady Gaga - from someone who dislikes musical theatre in any form.
The hug from Julie Andrews was so generous and sincere, it brought me to tears. There was a graciousness there, similar to what Adam is experiencing at the moment with Brian and Roger - where talent itself is embraced, competitiveness and threat is long past.
Her vulnerability waiting for the applause after the performance struck me .... it was very similar to the way she was waiting for Brian to acknowledge her after singing AOBTD with Adam. She was actually quite nervous during the performance with Queen, despite her bravado. And while that song did her no justice her voice in a live setting surprised me (in a good way).

WOW! We are going off in a direction away from the central point - plaids/tartan types/woven types need to have the horizontal match at the seams to be considered well made. Sometimes a printed as opposed to woven plaid cannot be easily matched. These are usually much cheaper garments. Some people are oblivious to matching plaids and are probably best left in this happy state. Some people sing off key and enjoy doing so. To each his own. We have bigger fish to fry. What are we going to do after the next three concerts? Are we going to be satisfied with Adam singing without Dr. Bri accompanying him? I noticed several instances of a budding bromance between Adam and Dr. Bri (extra smiles, touches, special signals). Is adoption still a possibility by either Roger or Dr. Bri? Is Rufus a possibility as Adam's drummer? Will the dragon plush toy get Adam's affection that would better be directed our way? What was the other plush animal doing on stage? What were the nice things the back stage tour director had to say about Adam? Did Sauli go to the Denmark concert? Will Sauli attend any of the last 3 concerts? When will they announce any further QAL concerts? Will QAL make music in a studio for distribution to their needy fans? An inquiring mind wants to know and this just scratches the surface of what I'd like to know.

Grandduchess, I, too am curious about how many tweets equal a trend. I see Q3 has explained that it has to be more than the typical chatter on a given subject, but how much more? But that may be proprietary information. peace&love The Twitter Trend formula is secret. It used to just be based on the total number of tweets in the past hour but then Twitter instituted a complex rule set BUT people have been tracking Twitter Trends closely and since 2013 it appears that it is not a static set of rules AND that there is human intervention more often than most people believe. Here is a good explanation of what it takes to trend on Twitter. It is from 2013 but the same things apply now, just more volume is required. www.cision.com/uk/blog/how-many-tweets-make-a-trend/

I would like NBC to redo The Sound of Music with Lady Gaga as Maria and Adam as Captain Von Trapp.
