Thanx glitter! It's not that I wouldn't get into how it works, I'm a techie to be honest , but I just don't wanna stream music. Maybe in a few years it'll be the only way to listen to music or to discover new music. At the moment, Spotify is not yet that popular here in Germany. Most teenagers I know are still bying via itunes or to be honest download illegally , none of them I know buys at amazon. But it's anyway a complicated situation here with the GEMA and all the sh*tty sh*t this organization brings with it. The GEMA is the reason, why we here in Germany can't listen to 90 - 95% of the songs on youtube. But that's another story ... People of my age (40+) here are still mostly into bying CDs and for me it's strange that maybe we won't have that any longer in a few years. I think there's nothing like holding a CD with a booklet in your hands ...

The covers were modern works of art. The back of the cover can contain all the song lyrics and info on who plays on each track." Being of the vinyl record era, I never have been satisfied with the packaging of CDs. Still, now that I am converting many of my old CDs to digital format so I can play them on my iPod, I am wondering what the heck I do with the CDs, cases and liners. Seems wrong somehow to just throw out.

Adam mention. www.yahoo.com/music/american-idol-top-11-night-qaasim-middleton-114120459481.html?soc_src=unv-sh&soc_trk=tw‘American Idol’ Top 11 Night: Qaasim Middleton Gets Lucky, Gets SavedLyndsey Parker Managing Editor March 20, 2015 Some interesting things happened on American Idol this Thursday. Nile Rodgers, one of the most qualified mentors in Idol history ( he’s worked with Madonna, Bowie, Daft Punk, even Idol alum Adam Lambert), made a very special appearance. Good times! Also Jax, the clever girl who wore “ The Dress" onstage a couple weeks ago, eschewed the usual boring Movie Night staples (no "I Believe I Can Fly" for her!) and did… Adam Sandler’s "I Wanna Grow Old With You," from The Wedding Singer. This was the most awesome and unexpected Movie Night song choice since Crystal Bowersox did Kenny Loggins’s Caddyshack theme in Season 9. And even more awesome? Later on Thursday, the actual Kenny Logins showed up and sang “Footloose.”Let’s daaaaaaance! .. Joey Cook – Joey did the Donnie Darko version of “Mad World,” and I am sure the Glamberts will come after me for this, but it was practically on the same level as Adam Lambert’s rendition from Season 8. Eschewing her usual goofiness — no accordion, no ukulele, no wacky dancing or Postmodern Jukebox hyperstylization — Joey gave a simple and stripped performance, totally in the moment, totally connected to the audience and the song. And she thrilled without even getting up out of her chair. J.Lo loved seeing this different side of Joey and compared her to Sia. Harry loved how Joey “chewed on those lyrics.” Keith Urban mused, “You’re such an artist.” I have really enjoyed seeing this once-gimmicky girl blossom, in such a short time, into such a fascinating and multi-faceted performer. Joey Cook is the real deal. (Joey's performance) Joey voice is a gimmick. It's part of her schtick. Her MW was more serious than usual, but it was certainly not in the same class as Adam's MW. It was not hauntingly, breathtakingly beautiful.

Saved some of the skinnier ones to store CDs of photos. Now I don't even bother burn my photos to CDs though, they take up too much room! But I can't bring myself to dump all my CDs. Even though I never listen to them... I will buy Adam's new one as a physical CD though, just to hold it in my hot little hands!

Will anyone remember Joey's version in five years?

Yeah, me too! But I have to congratulate you for reading all of this streaming educational talk. My head goes "poof" as soon as I read more than 2 sentences about it . Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all this knowledge here on Atop, I just don't have the patience to deal with all of it. Being a fan used to be so much easier... flailing, crying, bying, applauding and admiring seemed to be enough...That's still enough (that and buying the music/going to the concerts).
The streaming information was/is for people who have an interest in listening to music via streaming. If you have no desire to do that then you shouldn't do it. Nothing we here on Atop do (or don't do) is going to have a large enough impact to matter so I wouldn't stress yourself out trying to understand it.
Most of the streaming numbers will come from casual fans not from hardcore fans who will buy the hard copy of the CD and keep in mind that streaming numbers only account for a small fraction of the overall total sales of albums so it is still MOST important to BUY the album/singles.
Agree with this! New fans & casual fans and RADIO will make this single. We can DL it, as usual and stream it, if we want to. OFC, it will help. But the BIG numbers will not come from us! Now, the album is a bit different. Buying physical copies, DLing from Amazon and/or iTunes will help sales numbers. Also, this is where streaming by everyone can help. But we don't have to worry about the album for months!

DITTO DITTO DITTO!! Buying music still is most important -- by far for the singles chart. >> Streaming is having only a little effect on the Single Chart. >> This is for the US Charts. SINGLES: Billboard Hot 100 is composed of Sales Units + Radio Airplay + Streaming Media (mostly Spotify, Pandora and YouTube). There is no way a song can chart really highly without Sales and Radio Airplay. Streaming is limited to 10% of chart points.Sales - all formats - 40% of chart rank Radio Airplay - 50% of chart rank - airplay points (frequently referred to as audience impressions, which is a calculation of the number of times a song is played and the audience size of the station playing the tune) for about 1,000 stations - the exact list is unknown but it covers all major formats and all markets. Airplay in NY Metro (the biggest market) on a major station is worth a whole lot more than airplay in a small market like Tupelo, MS. Streaming Media - 10% of chart rank - top streamed radio songs, on-demand songs and videos on leading online music services in the United States. The scale of radio and streaming media is large:. For example, this week's #1 track..."Uptown Funk" -- last week's chart numbers to illustrate scale. The New Billboard Album Chart is different.>> Streaming is NOT limited in this chart. The Billboard 200 is composed of:
> Sales units - all formats combined.
> Track Equivalent Albums (TEA) 10 tracks from the album sold = 1 album sale.
> Streaming Equivalent Albums (SEA) 1,500 song streams from an album = 1 album sale.Description of the new album chart: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6320099/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracksSo a fan buying the album or buying 10 tracks or streaming the album tracks 1,500 times during the sale week have the same effect on this chart. **** Like always for the Billboard charts, what happens during the chart week is all that matters -- then the count starts again.

I love my vinyl record collection and have framed a lot of them and have them hanging up in my music/computer room. I love to look at my wall of albums with their varied and colorful art work....besides bringing back memories I like the retro look they bring to my room. Good times....good times! ETA: The one album I still haven't been able to get is 'Ziggy Stardust'. I have many of Bowie's vinyl albums but this one keeps eluding me.lol I know I could go on Amazon or ebay a get one but it's become a challenge to me to find it in one if the vintage vinyl record stores here where I live.lol

Single Chart - will depend mostly on radio and casual fans + fans buying the single Album Chart - this is where fans can really make an impact. And we do not have to think about the album until SUMMER!
