musicislife and musicgirl - I am so happy to have new fellow classical music lovers here!!!! I always thought that I am the only person on this forum who loves classical music + Adam.... In the last two years I've been diligently listening to all kinds of stuff recommended by Adam and the folks here and on the SSG and the DDD. I've expanded my "knowledge" to the point that I can fool anyone now and pass for a rock/pop fan...but the truth is that I enjoy none of it and most of the voices and music just annoy me (with a very few exceptions)... Adam is a HUUUUGE exception... as I said since the first time I heard him - his voice goes straight to my pleasure centers....the rest is classical only. What about me? I like classical music. I was brought up with it, played it, listened to it. While I also like jazz, standards, some folk, Celtic, some new age, some cool blues and an occasional pop/rock sound, classical music is my roots. I used to listen to Adam recommendations, but after a while, realized his taste was much different from my own, so now I usually skip it. But, never skip Adam!

I love classical music too, although I also listen to plenty of music that you would surely classify as dreck (including country 8-)). ETA: oh NEW, I just don't want to be left out of the party

In my fear of being left out, I neglected to welcome musicislife and musicgirl! It really is exciting to have lovers of classical music here. I have learned so much since joining this forum and have become more active in pursuing my musical interests. Cassie, I only have recordings for around 6 of our choir pieces. Are you still interested in a copy? If you other classical lovers are interested I'll share with you too (Shakespeare themed choral music).

Why don't you start with a list of what you are doing and I can tell you if I already have any in my collection. As for chatting about our favorite classical music, whew, that is a broad genre. From around 1600 to the present date? Orchestral, keyboard, vocals, solo instruments, sacred, secular.... If we want to chat, I would suggest opening up a separate thread so that people who come to the vocal masterclass won't get confused or frustrated when it is not about Adam. But, if we can do a separate thread, I am all for it. I think there used to be one for rock music and for songs we would love Adam to sing. So, it sounds doable.

Cassie, you may have already done this in one of the archives or previously in the thread, but bear with me. When you guys call out the notes as an E3 or B5 I don't really have a frame of reference. My music knowledge is not that deep. Can you relate the note ranges on a bass/treble staff?

Hi guys. Haven't posted much lately, but I love reading the info from the music experts. I might not understand all of it, but the knowledge I do gain is very cool. I don't know if this is really a question, but since there was talk about rock wails and raspy voices....... I think I read on DDD that Robert Plant was high up on the list of best male singers. I can not understand why they would think that. I can't listen to Zepplin (except Stairway to Heaven) and I like a lot of other raspy rock wailers. When Adam first sang WLL on AI, both hubby (not a big fan) and I looked at each other and said "That's how it should be sung. Damn he's so much better than Plant". So what type of voice does this man have? He doesn't even really sound on pitch to me. His voice IS my definition of screaming - on every note. Also, is there anything special about his range? www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU-PoUwECjII think I love this song mainly for the lyrics and the way the song has a lot of different melodies (if that makes sense). Is "buying" in the first line on key? I remember wishing that Adam did this on AI, but it was brought to my attention that he couldn't do it justice in the short time frame they were allowed to do a song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=axhLruo9SqAAnd his recent collaborations with Alison Krauss IMO prove to me that he killed his voice. It's nice, but very average to me. He has refused to join a Led Zepplin reunion for a very long time. I think it's really because he can't do their songs justice anymore. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugxFcmZXDycWhat say the experts?

Cassie, you may have already done this in one of the archives or previously in the thread, but bear with me. When you guys call out the notes as an E3 or B5 I don't really have a frame of reference. My music knowledge is not that deep. Can you relate the note ranges on a bass/treble staff? No problem. It is good to review for everyone. In the YT below, you hear a C major scale. The right hand is playing C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, B4, C5. ( Adam's high notes go up the octave above that, C5, D5, E5, F5, G5, A5, Bb5 {haven't ever heard a B5 or a C6}). The left hand is playing C3 (just about the lowest Adam ever sings), D3, E3,F3,G3,A3,B3,C4. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTNOUpNgigEAnnotated, the treble scale is C4-C5, and the bass scale is C3-C4. Sorry, couldn't quickly find the notation for the C5-C6 scale, but it goes up from there. Does that help?
